It has a Pentium 4 CPU 2.8GHz which is kind of cool. The hdd is 80GB Hitachi that has SATA 1.5GB cable which isn't too bad at all for it's age.
To remove the floppy drive you need a stub phillips screw driver - there is only 2" clearance for screw driver.
The side panel has a cheap mechanical lever that unlocks the side panel so it can slide off. The one I have jammed and I couldn't remove the side panel. I finally got it off with a pry bar. Afterwards, I removed the lever and put two screws to hold the side panel.
The PSU is 250W which is good enough for what is in there. It was made in China so I don't know how long it will last.
I haven't got to turn it on yet because the Pentium 4 bracket had broken and I am waiting for a replacement from an online store. The bracket is too brittle as it is made of cheap thermoplastic. A computer shop in Morehead City NC really screwed it up. The fan and heatsink was hanging loose in the case and when turned on, it would start to power up then turn off. I think the aluminum heatsink was touching the mobo.

Not Sure What People Mean By "power Programmer" Or
Not sure what people mean by "power programmer" or "real computer", but I've been developing C++ and Visual Basic applications on the 3000 along with analog and digital circuit development. It runs the related packages and tools with no problem in terms of graphics and speed of operation. I've watched movies and recorded audio also. So this, often maligned little box has worked just fine for me! I bought it 6 years ago and the only upgrade was memory.

The Dell Dimension 3000 Is A Great Pc For Home Use
The Dell Dimension 3000 is a great PC for home use and basic tasks, but that's about all.
Not enough on board memory to multi task.
Would benefit from RAM upgrade and DVDR/W Drive.

A good PC for a beginner, not really for professional use, or people into computers and technology. It's a little too basic, that's the main problem.

I couldn't get any support for the software on my Dell Dimension 3000 computer. Dell only give support for the machine and not the software.
This is just like the Ford Motor and Bridgestone Tires issue that based on, when you get sick at a restaurant, the owner gets the blame not the guy cooked your hamburger.
There's a good reason why Dell won't help you on your program matter because they want to stay away from "he says/she says" racket as much as possible when you are faced with an even bigger issue later on. It's not like they don't know what your problem is and /or won't be able to fix the problem, the people out there would rather be shut up than getting involed to, especially here in America. Hey you don't go out there to tell the guy "I saw your accident" when you see it everytime you witness the accident unless it's your friend that involved. Same here. I know it sucks, but it's the fact, and you know it.
Maybe the programs you have were preinstalled by/or Dell recommendation, but Dell would only help you by giving you Nero, Inc.'s phone number. So that thay can say "hey, I didn't do it."
So was it The Ford's screw up or Bridgestone's?
Ok its our own comment. Try the dimension 1100, same as 3000. No restore disk, a piece of card in the box (cost 1p) reminding you to restore. Has any one had a crash and see how windows WONT RESTORE? Dell told us "we have to buy a windows CD for xp home at a retailer". Clever clever, you got some stomach dell we give you that. .
