I Think The Dell Dimension 4100 Is One Of The Most
I think the Dell Dimension 4100 is one of the most bullet proof towers Dell has ever made. I have three of them up and running constantly. The first one I inherited in 2003. The other two I bought on ebay for 30.00 each just for parts. When they arrived they worked just fine so my "for parts only" plan went out the window. I've upgraded them all over the years: 160gb hard drives, max'ed out the RAM to 512mb [all the motherboard will allow], XP Pro SP3, newer video cards, etc. I have virtually "squat" invested in them and am thrilled with the fast performance [10mb cable hook-up] and here it is November of 2009! So until a cloud of smoke starts billowing out of them ruining components, I will just keep on rolling.

In general this is just a so-so pc and although there are a few mitigating features to this pc I would honestly look for another pc because with the money I spent I could have had a lot more from the likes of Evesham or even Sony.
Also, I have never experienced it but my friend who is doing a training course in IT said that the Dell service people who you ring when you have problems are absolutely hopeless and sometimes do more bad than good for your pc.

In Relation To The Previous Post I Made About Dell
In relation to the previous post i made about DELL:
After persistent complaining and emailing I am having my PC replaced with free upgrades.
I have been impressed to be honest. They have compensated the grief caused. My new PC will be arriving tomorrow.
After having gone through phone calls after phone calls with technicians, who tried but failed to resolve the problems with the brand new P.C, i told them i had had enough and wanted a refund. I was not willing to have a brand new system being "repaired" and given back to me, as they were suggesting, even though i was well within my rights for a refund or a replacement of the faulty product.
After having spoken to the manager for the refund as well as expressing my dissatisfaction with dell and its customer services, the manager apologised and offered to replace my pc with free upgrades as a gesture of good will.
He offered to add a hi spec graphics card and a upgrade of the warranty.
I was happy..
However after finishing the phone call i realised that i wanted that offer given to me in writing (either email or post) so that they will not be able to go back on what was agreed- as the basis of my continuation with Dell as a customer, was because of the offers made.
They did try going back on those offers.
However after heated discussions with management and threats of complaining to U.K based head office (including mentioning individual names) the initial manager that made the offer got back to me and confirmed to me that what he offered will indeed be delivered.
But he went beyond that and included an upgrade of the RAM (which previously i had asked to be included if possible- but not expected it)
So all in all i am getting the following as a gesture of good will:
ATI Radeon Graphics Card 256mb
3 year warranty including home visits
1024mb RAM (from 512mb)
The grief caused by Dell was not what i had expected. I had thought Dell would have had better service. However I am satisfied with what i am now getting, but it wasn't easy getting it. You need to be assertive and persistent when dealing with such issues.
I still think DELL PC is good- as in the product itself- however the call centers are a nightmare.
Also this isn't just for DELL, but for all companies: That they should never offer to repair a brand new item, when it is within the right of the customer for a full refund or a replacement. As customers why should we put up for a repaired good when we have the choice for a brand new one. Both of which will take the same time to be delivered. Companies should straight away offer a replacement and not insult us by offering to repair a brand new product (faulty upon delivery).

I Just Bought My Dell Dimension Desktop Two Days A
I just bought my Dell dimension desktop two days ago and I am not impressed.
First of all - the delivery slot is far to long - 8am to 6pm. They do not even call you to give an estimated time.
I have had to stay in home for the whole day- but that's not the bad point- after all that waiting they didn't even deliver. Nor did they call and say why it was not delivered. I have had to call back only to be told that nothing can be done and that no managers or supervisors were available (this was 6pm on a weekday).
When it was finally delivered it was faulty. I had to spend hours on the phone with the technicians and they could not resolve the problem.
They told me they will have to repair it - repair a brand new PC? It's not even a day old?!
After making several complaints the manager apologised and offered a new system with upgrades as a gesture of goodwill... My PC will hopefully be delivered next week - pray for me guys!!!!

I Purchased A Dimension 4100 In 2001, Which I Used
I purchased a Dimension 4100 in 2001, which I used primarily for web browsing and music production. In 2004 I upgraded to a faster Dell to run my music applications but I kept the 4100 for the internet and basic graphic and web design work. Now in 2006, after five years of use it has proved to be a very stable and reliable system and the only times I recall it having work done was when I had the RAM upgraded (before I started doing work myself). It came from the factory with Windows ME installed, but handles XP without a problem. The case offers room for expandability and additional RAM, hard drives and PCI cards have been added. For the record my brother also owns a 4100, which was originally used as our parents' PC but offered to him when that was upgraded. His system is also running well and as far as I know has never been in any serious difficulty.
As a sidenote I recently experienced what I thought was a problem with one of my newer Dells, which turned out just to be an adjustment I needed to make in the BIOS. I phoned tech support and they were very helpful and informative. Whilst I would find it hard to justify anyone spending money on a 5-year-old PC (the Dimension 4100) I can totally recommend my experience with the Dell company. There are better manufacturers around, but Dell are certainly competitive in their field.

I Have Had My Dell Dimension 4100 Since Nov 2000.
I have had my Dell Dimension 4100 since Nov 2000. It has proven to be an excellent choice. I had no problems obtaining driver support when I upgraded from Win 98 to Win XP. I have also not had any problems upgrading hardware - the original well-designed box now holds extra RAM, two hard drives, a CD-ROM and CD-R/RW, and for a while, I even had third hard drive running off of a PCI-based expansion card. The computer has run continuously with minimal downtime for as long as I have had it.
I have also been satisfied with Dell's service. The original CD-burner shipped with the system proved to be defective, but I made one call and a Dell technician replaced the drive on-site for me the next day. I have also had to replace the case fan, which burned out after two years, but Dell shipped me the replacement part with no problems.
I have found Dell to be priced very competitively. When I configured this system on their website, I also investigated what it would cost me to build a comparable system from generic parts. The prices came out about equal, and the price for my Dell system also included a three-year support contract.
I use Dell at work, and I plan to use them again for my next home PC.

Having owned a Dell Dimension 4100 for two and a half years I have had no problems with the computer. Although initially it was expensive to buy, compared to other systems, it has proved trouble free and a worthwile investment.
