I Have The Dell Dimension 8400 With P4 3.0 Ghz, 10
I have the Dell Dimension 8400 with P4 3.0 GHz, 1024 PC2 533 ram, Gigabit ethernet, onboard sound, Radeon X300 PCI-E, SATA 160GB master and SATA 320 GB slave and PATA DVD-RW and CDRW on the MB with Twin PATA 80GB for extra storage using a pci sata/pata 150 mb/sec card. The system boots up quickly (under 25 seconds to desktop). The gameplay is great averaging 40+ FPS on graphic intense games. The sound is lacking when playing DVD's. It is choppy but only on DVD's. The gigabit ethernet card quit working altogether and caused problems so I disabled it in bios and added a standard 10/100 NIC with no issues. Dell tech is no help to fix sound and NIC issues. No updates available to help me. If Dell would replace my system then I would buy another but they never offered so I will shoot for a custom build of my own in a few years when I can get the Omega core quad 8.0 Ghz with 64 GB PC4 4THz Optical ram with T-BUS optical card slots and dual 20 TB Fiber Optic Serial Interface 1033 mb/sec. drives on a 61 inch Gel Crystal High Def. TV with 1033 MHz refresh with ATI 8GB Quad core Pro Pixelon T-BUS card ( T-BUS is a 1024 Mhz bus card slot with optical interface ) Dream-On

I Ended Up With The Dell Dimension Xps Gen 3 After
I ended up with the Dell Dimension XPS GEN 3 after a bad expereince with an Evesham system. I Wanted a new computer just prior to Christmas and I purchased the Evesham. The second I plugged it in I knew I couldn't live with it, the noise from the machine was horrendous - back it went. I was a little hesitant about choosing another computer - but I phoned Dell for a quote on an XPS Gen 3 (I only wanted the box not the peripherals) and was given a very very good price - much less than that shown on their web site. Following the quote I received a phone call from Dell asking if I wanted to go ahead and I said that I wanted a bigger hard drive but didn't want to pay more - They increased the hard drive size for the same money.
As it was just prior to Christmas I really didn't think I would see it before well into the New Year but 4 days later I received a phone call to say it would be delivered the next week and would I need an evening delivery. Just as arranged the machine arrived and from the moment I unpacked it I was in love with it - it is a real blue meanie -
and compared to the Evesham it is very quiet.
I have had my Blue Meanie for a month now and am extremely happy with it. I can find no faults or anything to complain about - brilliant! Well done Dell - you met my expectations and more.

The Dell Dimension XPS GEN 3 is still a nice system, and it plays up-to-date games.

I Ordered The Dell Dimension Xps Gen 3 - 3.6ghz, 3
I ordered the Dell Dimension XPS GEN 3 - 3.6ghz, 3GB ram (I do a lot of multitasking and media work), dual raptors HDD, x800 xt gfx card 256mb and this thing literally flies. Every game I have run on here gets perfect FPS on very high settings. Doom 3 constant 60 all on high running 1024x768, HL2 constant 100 all on max settings at 1024x768 and Counterstrike Source 80-300 (varies) all on high settings. I am extremely pleased with this rig, not just for gaming but for everyday computer tasks my work requires me to do. All in all it cost me £2300 and you may ask why im giving 10 stars for value for money and that is because I compared similar rigs from Falcon-NW and Alienware and from them they were around twice the price. Good on you Dell.

The Dell Dimension Xps Gen 3 Is A Beast Of A Machi
The Dell Dimension XPS GEN 3 is a beast of a machine, perfect for a PC gamer or even home use. However it all depends on the type of specification you order with it, I ordered mine with a 3.2ghz pentium 4, 400gb hard drive, 1024MB ram, 256MB ATI radeon X800 XT graphics card, 12X DVD/writer, sound blaster audigy 2 XPS plus 5.1 surround sound and the Dell 17" LCD TV/Monitor. This machine is so quick it's unbelievable, it can be easily upgradeable and at £2000+ I think it is a bargain, it will be at least a year maybe more before this PC will go out of date, would recommend to anyone looking to buy a new PC. Perfect 10!!!
Received my dell a little over a week ago, oh man this thing rocks, my mates gave me some grief over the dell badging with comments like "umm its a dell? are you insane?" "yeah ok nice spec but its a dell?" well they soon shut up about the make when they witnessed FarCry in all its glory...
HardwareOC Farcry benchmark:-
Resolution: 1600×1200
Ultra quality option, OpenGL renderer
Level: Regulator, demo: Regulator.tmd
Antialising: 8×
Anisotrophic filtering: 16×
Score = 42.38 FPS
All in all I am most profoundly happy with my Dell :D

This is a followup to may last review comments. After a lot of time and energy on the phone with Dell, I finally got a replacement box. The system is working great. It is fast and quiet. The only compliants are that the box generates a lot of heat sitting under my desk. The DVD Rom drive can be a little bit noisy. I still have not been able to get a complete copy of my invoice from Dell. I have tried about 6 times. They keep leaving the part with the speaker purchase off. I need this to send in for a rebate. This is a great system, however I have had my share of frustration with Dell customer care and support. I am still very impressed with the 20.1 inch flat screen LCD. For the price it is hard to beat.
I ordered almost the same system and it shipped with a motherboard problem. I agree the system is extremely quick. Mine with 3.2ghz and 1gig of ram boots in about 30 seconds. The motherboard problem is with the integrated nic card. Should be replaced in a few days. I ordered the 20.1 flat panel monitor. I am very impressed with the monitor. I have it hooked up to my laptop(analog) and my XPS (DVI). The DVI is a much better pciture. I will report back after mother board is replaced.
