With these upgrades it made the system handle like a Pentuim 4 system.

If You Are A Power Friendly User Than It Can Still
If you are a power friendly user than it can still be the right pc for you. It can upgraded in many ways. RAM can be upograded to 2GB. For aprox. 60-75 dollars. If 2GB is not enough for you (I know its not for me) you can set paging file also called swap file. Heres how-right click on my computer and go to properties-then click advanced tab (top right side under remote tab)-then click on performance settings-click advanced tab- then on bottom change-then u can set the amount of hard disk space windows uses as if it were RAM. You have a limit of 4095MB per drive. I have 9090MB set on my two hard drives(8.87GB) and with my 2GB of RAM installed on motherboard= total of 10.87GB which is great for high performance needs.
Sound and video can be upgraded to a PCI card(be sure to dissable onboard devices after installation). The CPU can be upgraded to a INTEL CELERON 2.0GHz, 2.4GHz, or a 2.8GHz. It can hold and handel a Pentium 4 (Northwood not Prescott core) but you have a chance of burnning out the capacitor's that control you FSB(Front Side Bus) which are located on left side of processor socket. Your motherboard supports a 400MHz FSB but can be upgraded to a CPU that has higher(it will automaticaly slow it down thus cutting your perfromance on a P4).
I personally have many upgrades to my system and it runs better than any I have seen.

Best Pc I Have Ever Had, And Have Owned Pcs Since
Best PC I have ever had, and have owned PCs since entry in early '80s. Easily serviced and economical. After 6-yrs of service, this PC runs as smooth and fast as any more modern processor, greater RAM amount or BUS speed that I own or use in the workplace -- and I am into multi-tasking with many IE windows and Office programs at same time, including streaming video and iTunes, and medium size spreadsheets. The dual cd driver have been very convenient when archiving.
Running this machine since 2002-early 2008, and hopefully beyond. It replaced a very disappointing PowerSpec ('00-'02). Never needed professional servicing, it is very stable and reliable as a primary PC. Waiting for the hard-drive to fail so I can upgrade and would not recommend loading the MB with peripheral cards to do heavy video studio editing or other RAM-intensive state-of-art hobby. This PC definitely demonstrates value in its longevity, and earns its 10-rating!

The eMachine T1840 is a good, functional, solid machine for a very attractive price. We have run everything from games to custom software and, with the exception of the low RAM, it goes along like a trooper.

My parents bought the eMachine T1840 computer a while ago, and I am just getting to use it now, because they got a newer model. It runs fabulously, can actually rune dreamweaver, photoshop, mirc, firefox, flashplayer, internet explorer, and over 5 java applets at once without losing any speed. I highly recommend this computer for gamers and java developers, just install the latest jdk from sun's website, and set the PATH environmental variable from the system properties window.

Felt I Had To Comment On The Emachines T1840 Pc Fo
Felt I had to comment on the emachines T1840 PC for the amazing fact that it's the first PC in years that I've bought that worked straight out of the box. And not just worked. It had to be linked into a network, set up with network printers, adding various USB interfaces and I just plugged it all in, switched it on, and it worked first time, no problems. Anyone who has worked with PC's will tell you what a miracle that is. I also installed new memory before setting up and no problems with that either. I am very pleased with this machine.
I am going nuts. Can you help me? I had to restore my e-Machines T1840 due to a virus. Now, It will NOt allow my cable company to assign me an IP address. They worked on phone with me for 1/2 hour. They finally told me to contact e-Machines, as something in my Windows System is blocking allowing an automatically assigned IP address, and I can't get one from them. I can not get a hold of e-Machines on the phone, and they WON'T answer my e-mails. :( grrrrrrrrrrr....
I am SO FRUSTRATED. :( My e-mail is : lahluvsyah@lycos. com. Please E-mail me if you can help, thank you. LAH.
