Acer TravelMate 4001 LCI

This laptop is a great unit as it has awesome sound quality and is one of the best i have ever had and used,the many features it comes with makes it even better,it never lets me down.Everything about this laptop is great and so far I haven't found anything about it that makes me dislike it.one of the best things are the battery life as it holds its charge for ages and nearly never runs out!One thing i would of liked to know before i purchased this laptop is the amount of ram,although it only comes with 215 it can be upgraded to 2gig so I didn't really worry about it at all.This is a great speedy unit and i would definitely recommend to everyone!I found the brand Acer top quality and would buy from them again.

My new computer will not be an Acer - I cannot recommend Acer.

I would always recommend the 3 year warranty - built in obsolescence seems to kick in just after one year. Wonder why? Therefore I do not recommend Acer Travel Mate 4001LCI

Have purchased several laptops from Acer in previous years when quality was better.

Would never buy from this company any more.

I purchased two Acer Travelmate laptop computers (4000LCI and 4001LCI) for my daughters school work. Both units developed the same flaw, with the DC power supply module preventing a charge of the battery or general computer use. Both units developed the same flaw between the first and second year of use. The cost of repair is over $100 each.

Despite Acer's sometimes dodgy reputation, it seems they have managed to build a very good machine. For a start, the Acer TravelMate 4001LCI laptop is very well specced for its price, with the Centrino processor being more than adequate for spreadsheets, word processing and most games. The keyboard is an unusual shape, but is actually one of the most pleasant laptop keyboards I've used (must be something to do with ergonomics). The screen is bright and clear with relatively good definition. The battery lasts a long time, and is helped by the installed Acer Power Management software, which gives you an accurate estimate of time remaining and lets you see how you can maximise the battery's life easily, by adjusting screen brightness etc.

The only real problems are the lack of speaker quality, which isn't great for music but fine for DVD's, and the weight of the thing.

Apart from that, I would say this is one very capable and affordable mid-range laptop computer.
