Lots Of Problems No Solutions
Worst laptop ever owned problems since new, owned 5 months, hate it! Extremely slow, cant run multiple functions without stalling, volume sticks on at 100% automatically with icon top left all the time, wont rotate to tablet mode, cant run two concurrent email accounts, doesn't recognise its own charger lead...are just a few of the problems that have had to get Dell and/or Windows support with... fixes have not lasted or are unsolvable. Amazed its actually allowing me to even write this review...though it is only in black and white because colour doesn't work. Will not buy another Dell after this experience.

A Lot For £300
I set up the Inspiron 15 for my sister. She paid £299 from dell online. It is fairly light weight. But seems sturdy enough. This was the basic model so probably not a gamers machine. I watched the BBC iplayer. Picture was good. Was much better than I expected. Not that far behind my own machine costing 5 times as much.
Having seen other machines under £500 this is definitely the best value.
No idea about battery life.

This Is My 1st Laptop - Bought To Share With 16 Ye
This is my 1st laptop - bought to share with 16 year old for homework etc - however I liked it so much I got tired of sharing it with him and bought him an Acer which he likes but would also have liked mine! We researched both and are happy with both. His has Dolby, mine doesn't but mine has a better keyboard and control-pad. I don't play games and find it's fine for everything I want to do - email, internet etc. It IS a dust-magnet and the battery life is poor! Especially if doing more than one thing at a time. Please Dell address the battery issue - otherwise v happy so far.

I Bought This Laptop In March 2009 As A Replacemen
I bought this laptop in March 2009 as a replacement for my Inspiron 1501. I'll talk you through the basic features.
Overall Appearence:
When you take it out of the box it looks stunning. However that glossy finish is a fingerprint magnet, and with no included cloth to wipe those marks away, cleaning it becomes an event. Other than that the design is clean and tidy and attractive.
Screen and Lid:
The Screen is great. At a widescreen 1366x768 it really is pretty good, and clear as well. Also very thin, but despite this very rigid.
Keyboard:
Nice. As good as any other dell. Nice array of Function Keys.
Mouse:
The mouse is an interesting subject. Many other users comment on how odd it is, and it is indeed different. With no defining edge between it and the palmrests, using it can be odd. Early on in its usage, the mouse can suddenly freeze for a couple of seconds. However this disappears over time. And you get used to the no-edge thing.
Ports:
3 USB's, video out, and ethernet in. Thats it. As well as a very good CD drive. It has a narrow slot for something one side (no idea what for), and a memory card at the front, by the line in and out. When using headphones, it is clean and very noise free.
Memory:
Dell make a big deal out of the 250GB hard drive but it is nearer 230. But oh well, I managed to fit all of my media: 6 years of digital photos, music (of which I have A LOT) and videos on it with ease. RAM is good and pretty fast as well. Although not amazingly quick.
Battery:
Its average. At full screen brightness, with internet on, and average usage, It manages 90 mins if your lucky. It will get up to about 3 hours if you tweak like mad.
Overall:
Good budget media laptop. Attractive, and nice to use. No problems laptop hinges, CD tray, or keyboard at all.
THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW:
-You will get used to the mouse
-The power adaptor is great, right up until the day when it inexplicably stops working. This is because, in a nutshell, Dell build in a chip which means only dell chargers can charge dell batteries. If PC world or anyone else says send it of for a motherboard replacement (huge time and massive cost is out of warranty), try using a new dell charger first, or an old round one works fine.

Dell Inspiron 1545 Spec. Intel Dual Core T4200. 2g
Dell Inspiron 1545 Spec. Intel Dual Core T4200. 2Gb Ram, 160Gb HDD. Black. Windows Vista Home Premium.
I bought this from the Dell Outlet site for £255.
Firstly, I use this for basic operations inc. email, web browsing and photography (Photshop Elements 7). I do NOT play games, play music or watch much video.
Body.
Basic matt black case, with silver Dell Logo. Inside the screen surround and keyboard surround are of shiny black plastic. Nice looking but very much a fingerprint magnet. I clean it regularly with spectacle cleaner.
Screen.
15.6in shiny screen is very effective giving good quality viewing. No dead pixels on this model.
Keyboard.
Matt black keys give a nice feel for typing. Key travel and response is very positive. Track pad is an indentation in the keyboard surround but not pronounced. This sometimes means one is trying to "scroll" only to find your finger is not on the pad!
Sound.
Fairly basic, compared to my Inspiron 8600 but adequate for requirements.
Machine is quiet in use and when the fan cuts in it is not obtrusive.
Battery.
Slight disappointment here. Fully charged I get about 90-120 minutes of basic use.
General.
There 3 USB ports on the sides, a card reader at the front and DVD rewriter. The machine is not heavy, reasonably thin (tapers to the front) and performs all functions perfectly adequately.
