these are so cheap, buy the lens and usually you geta free camera attached to it
why do i need a 50 mm f1.7 lens, nearly all the prosumer zoom lenses are around f4.5 or f5.6. this lens is 2 f stops faster which means instead of using a shutter speed of 1/30 n low light risking camera shake
2 faster shutter speeds means 1/125 is ok for hand holding. want lots of shallow depth of field or boken for portrature this is it
uses 49mm filters and hoods, lots of those in camera shop junk bins as all modern lenses usually are 58 or 62mm. flash can be any old sunpac, vivtar or metz, flash speed is only 1/60 so not that good for fill in flash
get one for the price of a couple of pints at the pub, it could revitalise your photography

This Minolta 50mm f/1.7 35mm SLR lens is a very special lens to me. I uses this lens for very special photographs. As it is a 50mm lens which has the same view as our eyes, it will require me to think twice on how to compose the picture and get the best angle on the subject. This is a very good learning tool and challenging as compared to wide angles or tele lens.
50mm f1.7 has a relative bright view as the aperture is wide, so the speed in AF is fast and can allow me to work in low lights conditions. This type of lens can be attached to many accessories, like the close-up lens or extension tubes if you do not have the $$ for marco lens. Can add a 2X converter to become a 100mm potrait lens..it's simply wonderful but very often modern photographers ignore as they prefer a standard zoom.
I found this review helpful because...it told me how to use it and what to use it on

This Must Be One Of The Best Buys I've Ever Made.
This must be one of the best buys I've ever made.
Autofocus is very fast and quiet, Sharpness compares very well
with the 100mm Macro lens(Minolta) - and macros are generally
the sharpest lenses around, and it's cheaper than most of the
junky zoom lenses!!
There's really nothing I can complain about regarding this
lens.
Fair review truthful giving his/her views seems like an honest answer, however would be better if review stated what lens was used for also how long the lens was owned and what other lenses it is compared with, never the less seems happy with lens and review could sway someone into buying the lens
