I Sent The Oritron Npd3117 Dvd Player For Repair 2

I sent the Oritron NPD3117 DVD Player for repair 2 months ago and I've been getting run-around from customer service. This company is bogus and at this point I need to investigate how to get my money back!

After A Week My Oritron Npd3117 Dvd Player Would N

After a week my Oritron NPD3117 DVD Player would not play dvds or video files. This is absolutely the worst purchase I have ever made. I have been calling Customer service for 2 months and getting nothing but a run around from a bunch of foreigners. I will never buy anything from this company again and recommend no one else does either.

Piece Of Crud - Both Dvd Player And Softwarewell,

Piece of crud - both DVD player and softwareWell, I agree with most of the negative reviewers, but have some other caveats. I also had to return my first Oritron NPD3117 after 60 days. DVD player won't read disks after that time period. Got a new one, was OK for about a month. Now the same thing is happening... However, I noticed that it will generally play OK on a FRESHLY made DVD with absolutely no scratches fairly regularly. Store rented DVDs... forget it... On some store rented DVDs I managed to get them to play by leaving the disk inside the player, powering off completely, letting it sit for about 20-30 seconds, THEN powering it back on to reset failing hardware or firmware that gets it into a "perpetual read loop" trying to get the labels from the disk on first insertion. So for those that have a box like this, try the "Power off with disk inside player, wait, power on"...... Barely a passable solution given I'm on my 2nd player (and giving them the benefit of the doubt on the first one). Now for the software. Make sure to read the sparse help files. If you have video that is greater than 3 Mb/sec, forget it. Won't load into the streaming media server. At least it's documented.... BUT, when using VARIOUS video tools to make the MPEG files of lesser quality, NONE of them seem to make the software happy enough to pick up the file as part of the media library. The first time, using an MPEG2 file from a Sony DVD cam (DCR-DVD300), it rightly said "rejecting to high bit rate file" in the scan log... OK, at least it told me what the problem was. BUT, when using Pixela Image Mixer, Windows Movie Maker, and some others to downgrade the video and audio, it STILL won't pick up the resulting MPEG1 file, even at 320 X 240 with 224Kbs audio. The ONLY files I can get it to play are old converted analog 8mm tapes brought into my PC via Pinnacle Studio V7 and converted to a VCD compatible format. But, as far as my newly created MPEG2 files coming from my Sony DVD Cam, forget it..... Nada, no go..... And, for those that use wireless networks, don't forget to bring up the task manager and view the "Network" side when viewing files that actually DO work from the Media Server. Checking the network throughput will show some fairly flat utilization, THEN SPIKE upwards to 25% utilization on the wireless adapter during regular buffering intervals (I assume) and drop precipitously to 0 leaving the resulting video that hits your TV choppy at regular intervals. And, should that not be enough, after about 6 or so of these 4 minute periodic choppy playbacks, the adapter might even give up and you then have to scan for the computer AGAIN.... All in all, a good idea that needs to be re-worked from hardware through wireless access. Manuals and documentation, plus the online help are about as good as a 15 day old banana. And, the customer service is somewhat lacking as per some of the other reviews. Upon calling, the generic answer is "turn it off, unplug it, turn it on". Folks with heavy accents using Americanized names... obviously an outsourcing agreement.. No RMA tags, return numbers, nothing... No return FedEx labels... It's your nickel for returns..... About the only good thing is that I received the new box after 2-3 weeks of waiting from my initial return.... It will make a great doorstop in the next few months, possibly a shiny gray birdcage liner. If anyone else has solutions to the above, send an email to [email protected] with any/all possible fixes. Frustrated, confused, and wasting more time than available on this P.O.S. box

My Oritron Npd3117 Plays Just Great! Awesome For P

My Oritron NPD3117 plays just great! Awesome for playing all my files. Network cards were easily available. Had initial DVD problem but I had mine replaced right away. Had not had a problem since replacement. Could just be a problem with a particular batch of players. I just wish I had waited before purchasing - I bought mine for over $200 and now it's selling for $169 on buy.com :(

Oritron Npd3117 Networked Dvd Player Is A Very Unr

Oritron NPD3117 networked DVD player is a very unreliable product. The first one I had, it stopped working after two weeks. I couldn't get the DVD door to open reliably. I experienced a long delay after I pushed the door open/close button. Also, while playing DVD movie, the pixel would just break up all over the screen. The service center was no help. They did replaced my breaken unit. The second unit broke after one week. All the bars of the LCD panel lit up. the DVD door would not open. The network streaming stopped working. It is not worth of spending $250 for the unit. I guess the company has no understanding of the word "Quality".

Had To Return The First Oritron Npd3117 Dvd Player

Had to return the first Oritron NPD3117 DVD player because networking did not function properly. Second player sent worked for a month and then would not turn on properly with wireless network card installed. Oritron customer service said to contact Buy.com for another replacement. Buy.com has no contact phone number on their web site. I wonder why that is?

I Recently Bought This Oritron Dvd Player Thinking

I recently bought this Oritron DVD player thinking that it was going to be a nightmare connecting it to my home network, but it was a simple installation and I could play all my media files on the TV. The player can be connected either using Ethernet or wireless 802.11b. I had no problem playing all kinds of files and watching movies. The cool part is that the player does well on range too...I have on PC in my study and have set up the player to stream from it in my bedroom - one level up! Great product!
