Great Plasma
I have had the 42 and 37 inch for 11 years now. They have performed brilliantly. Both have under 10 thousand hours on them and are being fed an HD signal via component. They've been spectacular all these years.

Great! Not One Problem In 10 Years
I bought this TV in 2002, and it's worked beautifully... even after being moved from one house to another. The image quality is not what you get in today's TVs, but it's still bright and great. I'm SO happy with this TV that I just just got a new Panasonic plasma (for about half the price I paid for this one), and plan to install this one upstairs. The new one is 60

I bought this display soon after launch in 2003. I can happily say that it still works well, five years later. No problems to report on any front. Well recommend Panasonic TH-42PWD6.

After 11 Months, Of Regular Use Approximately Four
After 11 months, of regular use approximately four hours a day or more, this plasma TV monitor went from an overall good monitor to a less than fair quality monitor. I've had nothing but problems with this monitor since then, it started out when the monitor itself would occasionally turn itself off. After two weeks of this occasionally happening, I emailed the company from which I purchased this monitor, requesting service to fix to problem. When I did not receive any response to my request I went from emailing to calling this company. When I finally was able to speak with someone regarding my Panasonic TH-42PWD6 TV Monitor, I was told I've have to wait for authorization before a local serviceman in my area would be contacted and asked to come and look at it. After approx. three weeks of waiting for this authorization to take place and three phone calls later, I received my authorization and was put in touch with a local repairman in my area. Let me just say, getting in touch with this gentlemen was no easy task either... It was a week or so before I was able to even get this man on the phone and I was told then that it could be awhile before he even had a chance to even come and look at it. This week came and went, I tried calling numerous times only to finally catch up with him to make another appointment for him to come and have a look. I stayed home all day awaiting his arrival, my appointment was for early morning, I never received a phone call from him nor I was unsuccessful in reaching him at any of the available phone numbers previously given to me. DOES ANYONE WORK ANYMORE? DOES ANYONE TAKE PRIDE IN THEIR WORK? It was not until late afternoon, I was finally able to get in touch with him and then asked me to go to the monitor and count how many times the little red sensor was flashing before it stayed red for a few seconds before beginning the all over again. After doing so, I tell him this and he says okay that's all I needed. WHAT? He said he now contact the person who sold me this monitor to give them the approx. cost to fix it. Allowing them to then make a decision on whether it was worth fixing or replacing, whichever was cheaper for them (please note: I purchased an extended 2 yr warranty from this company). The company decided it was less costly to go ahead and allow the repairman to fix the monitor. So the, repairman calls back after a few days saying he was going to order a few parts that might be causing the problem (again, WHAT?), but that it could take a few weeks before the replacement parts came in. After three weeks, no replacement parts, after five again still no replacement parts. At six weeks, the repairman says he is still waiting on two the parts to come in. By eight weeks and many frustrations later (note: the monitor was now turning itself off every 10 Min's or so... pretty painful), I called and he decided to make an appointment to come and replace this one part that he had received weeks ago. One week later, the repairman fixes the monitor and says that it appears that the one part was the problem. Great, so I could have had it fixed weeks ago... Gee, Thanks!
Its now been approximately three or four months since having the part replaced and guess what? A week ago, like clockwork, the monitor suddenly turns itself off. Not again! (This time my first priority was to make the Authorization Request phone call...no waiting this time.) Yes again, only now it hasn't even been a full week that has passed and the blessed monitor started cutting itself off every time a commercial came on. If you were to put a DVD in, it seemed the monitor didn't go off as much. However, I am at a week and a half and now the monitor goes off every five minutes or less no matter what I am watching. This is UNBELIEVABLE!
I strongly advise against a purchase of this model OR a purchase of a Panasonic Plasma TV Monitor of any kind at all, until they are able to successfully fix their problems during the manufacturing process. It appears this model (TH-42PWD6) is not the only model to have these issues, the previous models before mine and the models thus following mine, all seem to have these problems. And, for the price that these Plasma TV Monitors cost, they should have NO problems.
Do u know what the actual problem was? cos its happening to me

After 12 Months Of Trouble Free Use, My Th-42pwd6
After 12 months of trouble free use, my TH-42PWD6 set turned itself off. The Panasonic tech says he has seen a lot of these, being new technology and not as dependable as the regular TVs. Since it only has a 12 month warranty, I am looking at paying almost $1,000 to fix it.

I Am Not A Real Techno Geek So I Can't Write A Tec
I am not a real techno geek so I can't write a technical comparason against other plasma televisions. For 6 months the Panasonic TH42-PWD6 was everything I hoped for. Sharp trouble free picture. I have my own sound system and had no trouble with inputs for my satellite and dvd recorder. About 6 weeks ago the tv developed 3 vertical lines 1 pixel wide spaced about 6 inches apart. Color varied according to background but was usually bright blue. Panasonics website led me to an authorized service center. According to the tech, Panasonic has them call Panasonic's center and they walk them through whatever tests are needed. It took 2 weeks to get authorization from Pana to look at it. It was determined that the part that was bad was very expensive and on backorder so they would replace the tv with a new one. 4 more weeks and many e-mails and phone calls and I still don't have a tv. Excuse is the Pana "tech-rep" is on vacation...as he was 3 weeks ago and said he'd get it ordered last week when he was back. The last 2 e-mails to the Pana service center have not been responded to. 6 weeks and counting to replace a defective tv? Does that seem reasonable? I'm pretty easy to please but this is getting ridiculous.
Update. They finally got the part to fix my unit instead of replacing it. It only took 8 1/2 weeks! They did extend my warranty by 60 days... but the part they replaced has only the original tv's warranty. In other words if it lasts the same amount of time the first one did it will go bad just after the warranty expires. Oh well, it is nice to look at.
And after so many good Panasonic reports new shopper is confused ..help me the pa20 & pw5B are current available models..what's the difference and should I consider other brands?

The Panasonic Th42-pwd6's Picture Quality On Svhs
The Panasonic TH42-PWD6's picture quality on SVHS is excellent on component it is amazing. 4000/1 ratio gives a sharp, well defined picture. The screen also projects lots of light.
I think the screen was intended more towards the commercial market, hence the lack of a tuner, but that also means that you can get it in black or silver and its available for a low price. I paid £2,600 (including delivery and SVHS/Component/composite and PC inputs) from plasma-screens.co.uk, they also sourced the swing out wall bracket that I use for £500.
If your thinking about plasma, but are waiting for a price drop - this could be for you!
