This Video recorder is basic - yes, but functional. The display can be switched on the screen and off. Nicam stereo. 6 heads. super Fast wind/rewind. Compact unit. 2 scart sockets. Good clear remote. Automatic tracking. What more can you ask of a video-recorder and made by Hitachi.

To say this Hitachi VTFX440E video is rubbish is to flatter it. It seems to have no redeeming features. The VCR display shows the time if you switch on the TV to set it, but I recommend you buy a clock. Why doesn't the display show the tape counter or the channel or anything vaguely useful. I thought Hitachi was a decent brand but any manufacturer with self respect would not issue such a model. I could go on. If you can set it to the correct channel (TV screen) and then record, a mediocre picture is recorded. It claims to have six heads! Freeze frame is crud quality too. Avoid!

You can't get any more cheap and basic than this 6 head VCR. Buy some thing other than Hitachi VT-FX440E.
