Total Cons Beware!

After finding some old camcorder tapes we decided to get them transferred to dvd so we always had some nice memories of our kids of when they were young. After looking on the Internet we found this company (The Vhs Converter) and thought we would give it a try. What a nightmare! We heard nothing from them for 5 weeks. We sent texts emails but no reply. After 3 months they called to say that "they couldn't transfer them as they were faulty" they returned the tapes but would not refund the money.(8 tapes at £98). We took the tapes to our local camera shop (JESSOPS) who converted all 8 tapes with no problems at all.

We had to take action with PAYPAL who quickly returned our money.

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED find another company to transfer your tapes.

Shambles Of A Company!

8 WEEKS to get treasured tapes and DVDs back (they jokingly I assume say 12 working days on their website, obviously not consecutive days)!

No phone number for them so had to rely on emails that they never responded to.

The only two times they did respond was to say the DVDs had been despatched, they lied !

Should have been feeling pleasure when they eventually arrived but it was just relief.....not exactly how you want a customer to feel !

Terrible - B/w & Picture In 2 Halves

This may sound similar to a review below but it's only because I had the same experience, I can confirm I am a different customer. I only found this review site after using the service and wish I had seen it sooner.

I sent a copy of my parents wedding day on vhs, this was in colour with no picture issues, to TheVHSConverter.co.uk to copy onto DVD. After a delay of a 3 weeks to amonth in actually processing the VHS (possibly due to post, however during communication with the company this wasn't highlighted) the DVD received was of very bad quality. The picture was in black and white and the image was split into two with the top half at the bottom and the bottom half at the top.

I have since used a high street service which cost twice the price but which was able to produce an accurate and professional DVD copy in half the time.

I would not use TheVHSConverter.co.uk again and would recommend anyone else to look else where.

Transfer Was Excellent, But....

So, having got my tapes and the DVDs back the quality throughout is superb, a first class service

However, communication could and should be so much better. Very disappointing that it took between 2-3 days to reply to an email for personal reassurance of my tapes being safe etc...

This spoilt an otherwise great transfer service

Absolute Rubbish

Totally gutted with the quality from this company. Got a DVD from an old family holiday on VHS, shot in colour and the DVD was all black & white.

Not only that but they hadn't synched the VHS tracking to the DVD when copying it and the picture was in 2 halves all the way through

The VHS plays in colour and OK on my VHS player.

There was nothing to like - very disappointed.

Excellent Scan Quality

The slide images were sharply focused and the colours looked great even from some over and under-exposed slides. I'm so glad I finally had my father collection scanned.

Having already tried to scan some myself, I was bowled over by the quality and will be strongly recommending the Slide Converter.

Disappointing

I was left disappointed by the service that this company provided to me.

I had made an order for a VHS to be converted to MP4 and supplied a USB stick for them to place the converted file onto.

Firstly, despite that their website explicitly advertises the fact that the file will be converted from VHS to MP4, the file that they put on my USB stick and sent to me was an MPEG-2 file. Therefore, this was not as advertised.

I then went to play the file. There were visuals but NO SOUND.

I firstly assumed that it must be something to do with the audio on my Macbook, so I spent an hour with Apple online support (who did a screenshare so they could properly interrogate my macbook); Apple online support confirmed that the sound issue is not with my Macbook.

I then assumed that the issue must be with the VHS tape itself. I therefore contacted the person that I received the VHS tape recording from, who assured me that there shouldn't be any issues with the audio.

I then gained access to a VHS player and tested the actual VHS tape on a VHS player, playing the VHS tape from start to finish. There were no issues with the sound whatsoever on the VHS tape from start to finish.

In addition to my macbook, I then played the converted file on a number of different computers (PCs, laptops etc), so this covered both windows and mac platforms, using VLC player, Quicktime etc. No sound was playing on any of these tests.

I then looked at the website of a different VHS converter company, and it was interested that they stated that MPEG-2 is the standard file format for actual "DVDs" (i.e. not for a file to be placed on a memory stick, which makes sense given that the VHS Converter company advertise that they convert to MP4 for memory sticks rather than MPEG-2).

Therefore, I can only conclude that for some reason, they converted the file to MPEG-2 as if it was intended to be put into an actual DVD, but nonetheless still put the file onto the memory stick, when they should have ensured that the file was converted to MP4 (i.e. as advertised) before being placed onto the memory stick.

Irrespective of the sound issues that this caused, they should have ensured that the file was converted to MP4 as advertised, as the other company also state that MPEG-2 is not a file format that most software editing programmes can import (i.e. if you want to edit the file etc). Even though in my case, this is not applicable (I have no intention to edit the file), it would have caused me import issues if this is what I wanted to do.

Whilst the company agreed to re-convert the file after their mistake, the fact of the matter is that I paid a lot of money to get this file converted, and I expected to be converted correctly. I had paid for next day delivery (which is of course more expensive) as I wanted the file back as quickly, but this problem has obviously caused hassle and delay, and I have ended up having to pay more due to the postage costs of having to send the file back to them for re-conversion.

As such, this was a very disappointing experience and I will go elsewhere for future VHS conversion services. I have a number of other VHS tapes that I need to have converted but I certainly will not be using this company for these conversions.

Excellent, Quality Service!

I sent an assortment of VHS and camcorder tapes to be transferred to DVD, what I got I return is precious memories that I know will last forever.

I lost my husband last year to cancer at the age of just 55 and when I finally got around to looking at the tapes that go back years I knew I had to get them converted as tapes do perish after time or get caught up in the machine. I am so glad I found The VHS Converter, they provide a quality service and when I find more tapes tucked away in the attic I will use them again.

Thank you so much!
