Few films actually scare me but this one did it the final scence when emily dies in the barn was very creepy and the court scenes where also entertaining on the whole not bad at all.
I Rented The Exorcism Of Emily Rose For A Horror N
I rented The Exorcism of Emily Rose for a horror night. Overall not a bad watch but I wouldn't call it a horror film at all.
I Watched The Exorcism Of Emily Rose Last Week On
I watched The Exorcism of Emily Rose last week on Sky TV, I did not have any expectations for the film and basically watched it just because it was on.
Bearing in mind that I was home alone, I still did not find the movie scary in a spine tingling way, but did find it extremely interesting and quite disturbing.
The film was based on a true story, however I do not know how accurate the film was compared to the real events in Emily Rose's life - the question I was left with was, if the film was even 'quite accurate' to the true events, then that was a very scary thought as some of the occurances were, if real, truly terrifying!
The story is told as a courtroom drama and so has many perspectives as to what happened to Emily Rose, from medical to supernatural.
I do recommend that you watch this film and make the decision for yourself, but do not expect the head spinning Exorcist film from years gone by, as if you do you will be disappointed.
When Mentioning Exorcism Most People Will Remember
When mentioning Exorcism most people will remember the original exorcist movie. Some people liked it, some hated it and some were very frightened by it. If you didn't like it don't expect the same thing from 'The Exorcism of Emily Rose', you wont be disappointed. 'The Exorcism of Emily Rose' is court room drama containing horror along with some elements of thriller, which makes this movie unique and because of this I would recommend it to everyone.
I would rate this movie a 6 but I gave it a 7 because it is based on a true story. For me, this made it a great movie. Also, the story is not one sided. The story is told from the priest's perspective, who performed the exorcism, and also from the prosecutors, which some would say there version of the story was more logical.
Due to the two types of stories contradicting themselves it makes you as the viewers question whether or not Emily really was possessed.
I did not give this above a 7 as I was disappointed at the fact that it did not scare me enough to class this as a through and through horror movie as I was expecting a pure demonic horror movie. This did disappoint me a lot.
Buying this on DVD would be up to the individual and the price. I would rather buy it in a sale as you probably wont watch it for a long time.
Overall this movie is definitely worth watching. It ties in horror and drama very well and the fact that it is a true story, its a movie you can't miss. After all you can't be possessed by a demon, or can you?
I Saw This Film On Friday Night And I Would Certai
I saw this film on Friday night and I would certainly recommend The Exorcism of Emily Rose to fellow filmgoers.
It's a nice take on the horror genre to make this a courtroom based drama and to tell the tale in this manner makes it much more of story rather than a a flat out scare-a-thon. The plot moves forward through the courtroom and via flashbacks which works well for this film.
The lovely Laura Linney is the films lead character, she plays defence lawyer Erin Bruner, whose task is to defend Tom Wilkinson's Father Moore in the courtroom. Father Moore is the priest accused of performing the Exorcism on Emily Rose and is blamed by the prosecution for her untimely demise.
Both Linney and Wilkinson are excellent and the acting in general is of a very high standard. Playing a defence lawyer and a murder suspect are not roles that are renowned for gaining sympathy from the audience, but Linney and Wilkinson put in such good performances that this is exactly what they get.
This film would of course live or die by the exorcism and possesion scenes - get this wrong and the film dies a painful death. Thankfully they are right on the money, largely thanks to Jennifer Carpenter who does the insane banshee type breakdown with aplomb.
The film is also broken up really well in between the scary/tension type scenes and the courtroom jousting. When called upon to crank up the scare factor, director Scott Derrikson duly obliges in both the flashback scenes as well as in scenes with Linney. The only scene in the entire movie that doesn't work is one of the flashbacks - you'll know this one when you see it as the whole cinema will erupt with laughter - but apart from that it's all put together very well.
I really enjoyed the courtroom aspect to the movie as well, the sparring between the steely Bruner and prosecution pitbull Ethan Thomas provide an effective mechanism to advance the story. It also allows the audience to act as the jury and decide whether we think Father Moore is guilty or not.
The Exorcism of Emily Rose will give you a lot to think about regardless of your religous or spiritual beliefs and I feel that you will leave this film brimming with questions. A very enjoyable, thought provoking and crucially scary film indeed. I'm feeling generous today so I'll give it a nine.
From The Ads For The Exorcism Of Emily Rose I Expe
From the ads for The Exorcism of Emily Rose I expected a bit of a battle between good (the priest) and evil (the demon residing in Emily). Instead, I was subjected to the trial of the priest that was suspected of contributing to Emily's death. That would have been all well and good if more was shown about the ordeal itself. The actual exorcism ceremony took place one night, for a very short time, and wasn't very impressive. I mean, to base a whole movie on an apparent few minutes of actual material is ridiculous. There wasn't even a rounding out of how she came to that state. I still don't understand why the lawyer began to go through little issues, but never actually panned into anything supernatural. And the hooded, caped figure? What was that all about? Again, nothing that was expounded upon that could have proved very interesting. I don't believe that this movie gives the viewer what he/she wants: to be scared and to see an exorcism. Instead you get crazy contorting, weird noises and a court room battle, instead of a spiritual one. Definitely could have been better.
I agree. The trailer for The Exorcism of Emily Rose was impressive, but I have to admit I was a little disappointed with this movie.
