Behringer PMP4000

I play in a pub rock band (two guitars, bass, electronic drums and two vocalists) and we use this for the drums and vocals. Bearing in mind that the PA needs to compete with two very loud guitars, both played through sizeable valve amps, it does the job admirably.

Quality

Having read mixed reviews about Behirnger equipment, I was impressed by the overall build quality of this mixer amp. It's a hefty piece of kit and has a good feeling of solidity to it. all the knobs, sliders and buttons have a decent "feel" to them and it all seems to be screwed together well. no complaints so far...

Features

you can get the full specs for this from the Behringer website. One of the useful features that attratced us to it in the first place was the ability to have two independent monitor sends. We use one to a monitor for the singers which is blended for the vocals with just a little drum in it and we send another to the drummer with a small amount of vocals and mainly drums. Besides this, there's a decent effects unit built in as well as separate FX sends on each of the channels to send them to external fx units. Overall, it has all the features we need and quite a few that we haven't used yet.

Performance

It does the job and does it well. for performance, we use two Behringer 15" PA speakers. for rehearsal, we put it in bridge mode and just use one speaker. In either scenario, it does the job perfectly. The sound is clean and crisp and there are no nasty hums from the unit to distract from the sound.

Summary

This is a great mixer amp, with a great set of features at a decent price. I know that some people get sniffy about Behringer equipment but I notice that many of them have had very little hands-on experience of actually using their kit. OK, this is built to a price and given the features built in, something has to give somewhere. So it's probably not as well built as, say, a Yamaha or Mackie. I dare say some of the audio components aren't as good as they might be. but you know what, I don';t care. We aren't trying to recreate a hi-fi experience, just amplify a singer in a noisy pub environment. And for that, it's excellent. You have to be aware of the fact that in bridge mode you MUST NOT plug anything into the second speaker socket. But if you follow the instructions and use the mixer as directed, it performs well and, for us, does exactly what we need it to do.
