I Agree With You The Product Is Great And Like Man

I agree with you the product is great and like many more buying them is a real problem. I have been in touch with whitworths they gave me a list of locations. I have found that Great Scot Marrow Fat Dried Peas can be bought from ASDA

Whitworths Dried Marrowfat Peas Has To Be One Of T

Whitworths Dried Marrowfat Peas has to be one of the tastiest, value for money product on the market. Unfortunately Tesco in their infinite wisdom have stopped selling them. You can only buy expensive little boxes of Bachelors - a complete waste of time.

Whitworth's Marrowfat Peas Make Great Pea Soup. I

Whitworth's marrowfat peas make great pea soup. I don't live in the UK anymore and whenever we go back to visit, or someone visits us, a few kilos of Whitworth's marrowfat peas always end up crossing the Atlantic. Lovely soup!

Economical To Buy And Cook. Mum In Law Gave Me Be

Economical to buy and cook. Mum in law gave me best advice on cooking : soak overnight - rinse - cover with water - add 2 tablespoons sugar and one of salt. Bring to simmer and turn off and leave to stand. Do this twice during the day before heating steadily til mushy enough, which does not take long.

I always cook too many as they are great next day reheated in microwave.

I am finding it difficult to find a supermarket now that stocks the large bags and would appreciate information on where to buy.

I have only one bag left as I took several to France this year to use at our campsite. Cordon bleu food with mint sauce made from from fresh mint and malt vinegar.

With Whitworths Dried Marrowfat Peas Costing 65p F

With Whitworths Dried Marrowfat Peas costing 65p for a Kilogram (2.2lbs.) bag, this weight increases to almost 5lbs. after soaking overnight which makes the cost about 13p per pound. This is rock-bottom price for one of the most tasty and nutritious vegetables on the market. No tinned peas come close for taste leave alone price.

The Cream of Pea Soup recipe on the bag produces the most delectable concoction without too much effort but these peas, when boiled to a mushy state, really require the accompaniment of faggots. And I do mean faggots preferably made to a traditional Welsh recipe such as is exemplified in the Felinfoel area of South Wales.

For a homely, filling and gourmet meal try the peas, faggots, and a "gravy" made with an Oxo cube dissolved in about half a mug of boiling water. Don't thicken it as the peas will absorb almost all of it. A meal to remember, costing about 55p and fit for a king!

Hello Bertie,

I like frozen garden peas instead of the dried ones, the frozen range tastes much fresher than the dried. I Do Agree With You About The Faggots from the shop down the road, they are the best!

Bertie

Hello there cat1not2 - Merry Christmas.

Here, we eat ONLY those faggots with the peas so I have no sensible advice other than to try, say, Brains faggots or a similair brand which come pre-packed. You may like them.

I would love to send you some Felinfoel ones, but there will surely be import restrictions on such products and as these things have no added preservatives, they'd be poor travellers!

cat1not2

what a life saver...at last a dish that I can set before my pea-crazy kids. Any alternatives to faggots though, as I think the choice in Ireland is a little narrow and mail order does not appeal?
