Chain Thrower
I have the same problem that a lot of others are having. Took it to the dealer and of course he said it was the bar. New bar, new chain. It doesn't matter. I have looked at other Husky's and they have guide plates in them the same as my Homelite. Seems to be an engineering flaw. I have heard the "you must be doing something wrong" the same as others. That way worked fine for the last 35 years. When the chain comes off and wraps around your leg it pulls out chunks of meat. No problem there yet. It grew back. No help from Husqvarna. I am a bit disappointed in them. Starts and runs good. Plenty of power. You just can't use it.
I've cut for over 120 hours with my Husky Rancher and never have I had a chain come off the bar. Follow the instructions in the owners' manual (get it online), and you'll not have a problem. I'm 72 years old, and if I can do it, you can do it too!

Bar ,chain And Sprocket
Chains run out of adjustment in 2 hours, new bar and sprocket oiler works bar tip lubricated (yes right size chain correct tension same results with different mfg chains. Why does it eat bars and chains. Last chain was 3/4 inch longer than new after 45 minutes. The bar needs to be longer than the standard 20 inch or the chain shorter. Costs to much to keep it running

This Saw Has An Oiler Problem, Bigtime
I purchased the saw, Husqvarna 455 Rancher about three years ago. I used it once for about an hour. Drained the gas tank and ran until engine quit for storage. Several months later I had another job for it so I took the saw out of the case and all the oil had leaked out of the saw. Messy !! I then decided that when I would put the saw away in it's case I would drain the oil. However, that was very inconvenient. Recently I bought oiler parts for the 455 from ereplacement parts on line. I replaced the two oil tubes which was not easy on the one in the crankcase. Lo and behold it still leaks, just as before. This is a manufacturing problem and after all this time now I am saddled with the saw and oiler problem.
This oil problem with the 455 is not just a little oil leakage after use,
which happens with many chainsaws, but a definite problem. 03/24/14
Saw Leaks Oil
I received this saw as a gift last October and fired it up last weekend for the first time. However the saw leaked excessive oil in the carry case. Made sure the cap was tight and cleaned up the mess. The saw leaks oil. I've worked with Stihl and never had an issue like this. The dealer says, they won't take it back because their 30 day warranty is up and they have it for "repairs". This is in the shop brand new and never cut a log. After reading some of the reviews here I'm not sure I even want this saw.

Chain Falls Off

I have had this exact problem. I have been using chainsaws in various sizes and brands for 25+ years. I understand maintenance, chain tension, etc. I have probably not got 2 hours run time on the Husky 455 and the chain has derailed twice, both times chewing up the chain guides such that I had to replace. First time it happened, I figured it was bad luck. Within 5 minutes of running the saw today, after replacing chain, it came of again, and, again, ruined the chain. This is extremely aggravating as I was extra careful about tension and proper mounting, and use of saw. I am going back to Stihl brand. I never had this problem with the 041 Farm Boss I had for 20+ years. Yes, the chain would occasionally come off, but it would not get destroyed.
I bought mine on Amazon 2 years ago. Love it when it works. My chain also jumps off and have the same problem with the teeth. Last week it quit. Can't get any spark. Never had a saw with those two problems. But I still like the saw.

Good Engine, Bad Chain Oiler, Sprocket.
I run husky's. I think they are the best pro forestry saws going, for the XT models. I use the 390xt, the 575xt, 372xt and 346xt. I bought a 455 because it was 1/3 the price of the pro models, $300 vs $1000. It has a very strong motor, starts good, and for a $300 saw, cuts fast. However, this is the best example of you get what you pay for. The chain oiler is cheap junk, the sprocket is junk. It costs more to put this saw to work than any other I have because it eats up chains and bars and sprockets. $21.+ $32. +$40 + a trip to town = about $100 a month x 12 = I should have bought another 372xt instead of the 455.
The 455 is a good saw, but will not hang for a logger. For a backyard/home owner, firewood, they would probly think it's the worlds fastest and best saw. It will work just fine for a once a week saw. Husky could a home run with with this saw if they would put a good oiler and sprocket on it.

455 Rancher With 18 3/8 Bar
This is a poor saw , first off when i first got it the chain break broke on it . then the chain was falling off all the time. I fixed that by buying a after market bar. The bar the saw comes with is the wrong one. So after i got that fixed with the new bar i was having problems with it getting hot and boiling the fuel so when i shut it off i would not start again into it cooled off. And another thing you have to keep the air filter super clean or i will not run. for the money i spent i could of got a sthil and had no problems at all
Great Saw For The Land Owner.
I bought this chain saw two years ago, and have cut plenty of trees, and logs for firewood since then. I've had no troubles with parts except one, and the chain has never come off by itself. It has plenty of power, and cuts like butter. There seems to be one problem however. At times if the chain break is on when you shut it off you can't remove the cover to clean the chain saw, or replace the chain. Unfortunately I didn't know about this defect until I had to purchase a new cover. I only learned about this defect by going online, and finding out about the problem. Now I simply restart the saw, disengage the chainbreak, shut it down then remove the cover/faceplate. It would have been nice if I knew about this before I paid to fix the problem once, and then afterwards had to buy a replacement part the second time.
Chain Slings Off And Damages Chain.
Recently bought a 455 Rancher. Saw starts fairly easy, but I have used it twice and it slings the chain which results in the chain being damaged each time. I have run the saw twice and I have had to return it each time to get it repair or buy a chain. I have been running chainsaw 30 years and have never seen anything like it. Local dealer won't do anything about it. I have always used a Stihl saw up until this point and was convinced by the dealer that the Husqvarna was the better saw. Just went and bought a new Stihl saw. Used the Stihl cutting down a number of trees and did not have the first problem with any part of the Stihl saw. So, buyer beware of Husqvarna saws.
I had the same problem with mine. Took it to a repair shop and he replaced the bar witht he oregon 20" bar which is a little bit wider at the eye holes. After this I had no problem with the chain coming off again. I hope this helps you.
I am amazed. I have had mine for 2years no problem. Keep the chain tension right, the air filter clean, the muffler flame arrestor clean and the chain lubricated and shapr
455 Rancher Huskvarna
