John Deere Cs40
I just bought one of these saws, it is used and a little older, but I got good deal for 75 bucks. the saw starts easy, three pulls and it is running. I cut with it all day today, four tanks of gas, it performed great.
I heard that echo made these saws, I am not sure, but it is a great little saw. I have a homelite 360 I use on the big stuff, but this little deere keeps up with it.
the only thing I did not care for, is when cutting against larger wood, the exauhst comes up and is a little hot on the hand.
way to go deere, great little saw.

This Saw Is A Bi--h To Get Started But Runs So So
This saw is a bi--h to get started but runs so so after it gets warm. I had a homelite 16 for 10 years that was much better but never great! The big PROBLEM WITH THIS SAW IS THAT IT LEAKS CHAIN OIL ALL OVER THE PLACE AND COMPLETELY SOAKED THE OWERS MANUAL. ( NO i CAN'T FIND WHERE THE LEAK IS EVEN WITH A MAG GLASS. DO BUY ONE STICK TO ANOTHER BRAND!
Almost word for word my experience

I Live In A Rural Area And Heat My House With A Wo
I live in a rural area and heat my house with a wood stove. I cut the wood from a wood lot on the property. Over the past 40 years I have used chainsaws from a variety of manufacturers, and when my last saw was worn out my son bought me a John Deere as a gift. It is quirky and poorly designed, and requires much more effort to maintain. Once it is running it cuts well (as most saws do), but learning the trick of getting it started is a learning curve. My hunch is that it was designed by an engineer who never uses a chainsaw.

I Bought The Cs40 Used For $50.00. The Man I Boug
I bought the cs40 used for $50.00. The man I bought it from told me I needed to be mechanically inclined (which was good advice). His problems were that it would not rev to high rpm's. He had it back to the dealer for this but it was not fixed. I wanted a John Deere saw so I bought it anyway thinking I could fix it. After I investigated and tried unsuccesfully to adjust the carb I checked the muffler and found the spark arrestor was almost totally blinded with carbon. Correcting this made all the difference. It immediately ran very well. The next issue is the air cleaner plugs very easily. I took some advice from a review and added a small paint roller element under the air filter and that has helped very much. Still have some problems with the oiler.

Good Power When Air Filter Is Not Clogged. I Now
good power when air filter is not clogged. I now use a mini sponge paint roller that just fits into the air filter chamber which extends the run time before clogging. Also the bar has worn out early. seems to use up the oil at a decent rate but may not be getting to the bar where needed. Replacement bar too expensive compared to other saws.. dont buy this one.

I Bought The John Deere Cs40 New For $329. It Wil
I bought the John Deere CS40 new for $329. It will run all day without complaining. But I later got an old '70s Stihl Farm Boss, this is a 041 model & it will easily cut twice as much wood as the new JD. Even though it's a bigger machine, it is easier to use & better balanced than the JD. At the end of the day, I was less tired & cut at least twice as much wood. A new Stihl Farm Boss sells for about $399.00. No contest on which I would buy next time.

This John Deere Cs40 Saw Is Over 5 Years Old And I
This John Deere CS40 saw is over 5 years old and I haven't had a single problem. I've put 1 spark plug in it. Used it to help trim about 300 oak trees on our 26 acres. Have gone through about 10-15 chains and 1 bar, and it keeps on trucking. We also have a CS56, and a Shindaiwa which I'd also highly recommend. JD saws are made by Efco in Italy and Northern Tool sells Efco's with the most warranty I've ever seen in a chain saw.

So far, my John Deere CS40 started and ran well, but the chain wasn't getting enough oil. Took the recoil, and fly wheel off and discovered the oil tank had been cracked and had tried to be repaired

I bought the John Deere CS40 because I trusted the name John Deere.I purchased new. I have cut up about 5 trees with it. I can't bet it to rev up. Will maybe rev up to mid range but it is inconsistent to get it any higherI should have bought a Husqvarna.
Q&A
My handle broke, it looks to me that the throttle and fuel tank is all one part. How can I get this part?
JD CS 40 LE. Chain tightener screws into housing rather than fully tightening chain. Is it fixable?
