My Generac Looks Like Junk! It Is Rust

MY GENERAC LOOKS LIKE JUNK!

IT IS RUSTING OUT AT AN ALARMING RATE.

MY FAMILY HAS RESTORED THE OLDEST HOUSE IN JACKSONVILLE BEACH, FL. THE HOME WAS BUILT IN 1886. EVERY EXTERIOR SURFACE HAS BEEN RESTORED AND IS BRILLIANT... EXCEPT FOR THE RUSTY 2YR OLD GENERAC GENERATOR.

THE HOME LOOKS GREAT EXCEPT FOR THE RUSTY GENERAC THAT IS SITTING NEXT TO THE TRANE AC UNITS (THAT DON'T RUST).

THE DEFECTIVE FINISH ON GENERAC GENERATORS IS CLEARLY A PUBLIC MISREPRESENTATION BY GENERAC AS THEY DON'T DISCLOSE TO POTENTIAL BUYERS THAT THEIR PAINT IS DEFECTIVE. IT APPEARS THAT THEY KNOW THE PAINT WON'T STAND UP TO THE ELEMENTS BECAUSE THEY OFFER AN ALUMINUM HOUSING.

Worked When Power Was Out But Is Rusting So Badly

Worked when power was out but is rusting so badly than the ones that I have installed in the last 6-7 years are literally falling apart. Poorest quality stationary generator that I have ever seen. Chepest materials and the rusting is poor on all but the models wth the aluminum housings.

After Katrina And Wilma Experience (almost A Month

After Katrina and Wilma experience (almost a month without power at home), buying this Guardian 04456 has been the best decision of my life. It keeps my 4/2 house with a 5T A/C running (I use gas water heater and kitchen). It's been exposed 100% for two years to Miami weather and no signal of rust (so far).

After 4 Months Of Run-around From Customer Service

After 4 months of run-around from customer service. No returned calls. No responsiblity. I give up. Magnito worked loose and blew out ignition coils after 45 hours of use over two years (including weekly test cycle). Warranty expired. Two little screws vibrated loose and destroyed the ignition coils. All I was interested in was some adjustment on the repair parts needed. No consideration. $1000 repair bill.

Back-up generators are a great idea.

Highly recommend not buying Generic products as the reliability is terrible and the factory support is terrible even though I live about 100 miles from the factory!

- Automatic Standby Generators Are A Fantastic Ide

- Automatic standby generators are a fantastic idea

- Make sure you take into account the transfer box that starts and switches in the generator when power fails, this can be expensive.

- I bought and recommend propane, it keeps and smells better than gas.

- Buy one from someone other than Generac.

The dealer doesn't sell casings separate from the unit, the casing is made by generac.... thats like saying the Ford dealer sold me the wrong body. Yes steel rusts, so Generac should paint it properly so that it does not rust out at an alarming rate, as mentioned. As a followup, about 6 months later the main generator winding also failed. The cost of that part is more than the unit. So, we threw the whole thing out. My current recommendation is the Briggs and Statton. Slightly more expensive, but FAR superior - much more solid, better access doors (both sides), metal is clearly thicker, better painted. And the unit is quiet a bit quieter. I am VERY impressed with this unit, esp having seem the poor quality and reliability of the Generac.

I agree, the Generac product is top notch, but it seems to me your dealer didn't sell you the proper casing. EVERYONE knows steel rusts -- it should be no suprise.

As a Generac dealer, I disagree with the statement about warranty. Your problem lies with the dealer that installed your unit. Generac's warranty department is always there for us, and can assist us in any repair. They accept 99% of all warranties I submit, EVEN rust on the cover. Call another dealer to get service.
