Shocking Quality

I bought 4 blackout energy saving pleated blinds to replace some old blaclout blinds. My first reaction was a shocking reduction in quality there has been from my old blinds to the new ones. Every aspect of the blind has been cut back to the bone and they looks and feel very flimsy. First one i put up, the string pulled out from one end. Taking it down and checking revelaed that the string ends are only secured with a pathetic piece of twisted metal. Putting up the second one and found that the strings had been fitted all twisted up inside the blind. Another one had the strings 4cm longer on one side than the other. I will never, ever buy another Velux blind, and I suggest you don't either.

Only Last 4 Years....just Outside The Warranty

Avoid the expensive original Velux blackout blinds, there is a major built in flaw, they wear and break. I have three of the exact same blinds used daily for 4 years, with no excessive use, they all broke within a month of each other. The plastic internal parts wear and fail, very poor design but one I believe is completely deliberate. Designed to fail just outside of warranty. AVOID or keep paying the price.

Excellent product, easy to fit, worth ordering a sample as I could see and match the colour before ordering. good company to deal with. I would recommend this product.

Disappointing

My wife paid extra for what was described as blackout blinds. This is inaccurate as light leaks past all round.

Installation Nightmare

I wish I had ordered the original velux blind to replace my broken one. Instead I opted to save money and buy the blind2go version. It's been 2 hours and I still don't have the blind working. The side channels don't slot into place as the instructions say they will. It seems far inferior quality than I was expecting. The 3 minute installation video on you tube is so misleading and the instructions are no help whatsoever. The top part of the blind that I have got fitted in seems not to sit flush to the top of the velux window frame. I fear my blackout blind will have gaps all around it with this cheap version.

Not impressed at all.

Blackout Blind

Ordered a replacement blind on the net. What a simple and easy site to use. Had some great customer service before and after a delivery error which was not of velux's doing. They really did try to make things right and customer service was brilliant. Got the blind a day late. Easy fitting and great quality. It would be wrong of me to focus on a slight negative as there are so many positives. Don't let my 'hiccup' with delivery put anyone off. I am sure that mine was an isolated case. This a professional outfit and customer service is top notch.I would have no hesitations to use this company again.

We Have Some Velux Windows In Our Loft Conversion

We have some velux windows in our loft conversion so, as I'm sure most people do, opted for the velux blinds as the most practical way of stopping the light coming in.

We went for the blackout blinds and I must say they are fantastic at stopping the light coming in - they do totally blackout the room.

They were pretty easy to install too which was a relief - once you've done one the rest are dead easy. Sometimes the instructions aren't perfect, but really for a basic DIY'er they're pretty simple and dont take very long.

They are a bit pricey, but not too bad - a top tip - dont buy direct from Velux. For some unknown reason they charge you more than if you go to one of their retailers. I spoke to Velux direct about this and they simply said that other retailers can offer discounts, but they dont. Very odd, as they obviously have the best margin as the manufacturer.

But anyway - dont be put off by cheaper prices on smaller sites - they are probably genuine and the products are identical. We saved about 30% by going to one of these retailers rather than buying direct. Crazy, but true.

The only reason I didnt give this product 5 out of 5 is because the blinds still let a huge amount of heat in. If you touch the blind in the summer it feels like a radiator. I guess it never said on the marketing blurb that it would keep out heat, but I kind of thought it might, but I can confirm it definitely does not help with heat reduction.

If you want heat reduction then get external awning blinds (see my other review on this - they're excellent)
