Bucas Buzz Off Fly Rug

We bought this rug because it was endorsed by top riders. It seemed to fit well but after a few weeks of day time wear we noticed our mare was very twitchy on her withers but it wasn't until she was ridden that we noticed an open sore on the point of her withers. It has necessitated a visit from the vets and a course of steroids and after a good three weeks is only just starting to heel. It has been so sore that we have been unable to put a saddle or rugs on her. It can only have been caused by this rug and when you look at the inside there is a line of webbing right round this area. Avoid it. I wish I had read reviews before we spent £95.

I have a few Bucas rugs and overall been pleased with their quality. However I would not recommend this rug as the quality is so poor. The stitching has come away and now the belly strap is hanging and could get caught up if my mare was to lay down, I am now not using this rug for this reason and reverted back to her Rambo sweet itch rug that she has used for years. I have emailed Bucas with my complaint and awaiting a reply from them.

Very disappointing, I would not recommend to anyone.

I purchased this rug at a cost of £97 plus delivery. My horse was wearing this rug dusk, during the night and dawn. I washed it after 2 weeks and then again before returning it. The zebra stripes were fading; even on a 30 degree synthetic wash.

The reason for return was that as the belly flap (which is supposed to keep the midges/flies out) hangs down very low. THERE IS NO ADJUSTMENT on this. The actual rug fitted fine on my shire x cob. Even the sales assistant in the shop agreed that the rug in the shop on the model horse had a belly flap that hung low.

My horse got his hind leg caught in the belly flap and broke 3 of the 4 elastic ties that hold the clips onto the rug, therefore nothing was holding the rug in position. My horse and was charging around the field trying to get the rug off over his head. I am lucky he did not fall into the ditch and break a leg.

Amazing Rug its a thicker materal mesh than most and it really lasts, Mine does have a rip wher emy boy was turned out with a new heard an dthey bite through the rug but other than that its brill, Only downside i see is the fact it has Plastic clips which get broken easy i think metal ones would be better.

Really lasts - I have been using my Bucas fly rug since 2000. No snags or tears, whereas the horses have destroyed my other fly rug bought at the same time. Highly recommended. Can't detach the neck cover, but this has never been an issue for me.
