Not Very Happy

We went here last week looking for a cat. We are responsible people who has plenty of experience. We didn't like the condition of those cats walking about sum were sneezing and weren't well but when we told them No one wanted to hear it put us off. We went up the road to the tameside one and got a smashing girl cat who was speyed. Very happy but not with millstream .

The Need To Tell The Truth

I am dismayed at reading some of the more recent negative reviews however I have noted that the 'spelling' is bad in both reviews so I assume they are from the same camp.

I visit Millstream regularly and have been a supporter for many years. The renovations that are ongoing to improve the shelter and therefore improve the quality of life for the animals and the staff are excellent.

Millstream is always clean and tidy. The animal pens are spotless and the litter trays and cat bowls and always clean.

There are cats that come to greet you, they are the Millstream cats, all happy and well fed and I have never, in all the times I have visited, seen one with cat flu.

The shelter has it's own vet's room and they have an 'oldies' room as well.

If you feel the need to check then go along, they are open every day and welcome visitors as they have nothing to hide.

Please remember that Millstream is a registered charity, unlike some other animal charities in the same area, this is very important as there are strict rules regarding obtaining the status of a charity under The Charities Commission.

Fantastic!

I visited millstream animal shelter looking for a cat. I found the staff there to be very pleasant and enthusiastic about what they do. It was clear that they cared about the cats and other animals there. As i walked around I saw the resident cats and cats in pens were in clean surroundings with plenty of food and water. I loved the cat lounge, it looked very cosy and the resident cats had plenty of soft cosy chairs and cat beds to lounge out on. Lovely place. The price was very good for money too, considering the cats had all been neutered/spayed and had their injections, it was fantastic value.

Animals Suffer

This charity is not friendly to customers looking for an animal. The one aspect I could not get over is the video link when me and my husband called down to see the dogs and even the excuses of them not getting stressed out does not diminish from the lack of eye contact necessary. The staff were not helpful I feel they are more of cat lovers than anything else and we felt sorry for the dogs, it was very upsetting. Some dogs live their lives out there because they are not shown to prospective owners and I think that this is cruel. I have heard about this place before and did look at the charity commissions website and they do have over £880,000 in the bank. We wont be going again this plus the attitude of the staff was very off putting. Poor excuse for a charity

We was sold a cat two weeks that has just been put down with tumours in its mouth

Yet another 'review'. I have also checked the Charities Commission website, this is available to everyone, and at no time has this charity had £880,000 funds. Now why would someone want to stir up trouble, jealousy perhaps or a disgruntled exemployee? If in doubt about my comments go to Charities Commision website, search for Millstream Animal Shelter and in the left hand side of the page click on 'accounts'. The figures are shown for 2010 to December 2014. I have no reason to lie but others may have.

A Cat's Paradise/

I have adopted two cats from Millstream, one just before Christmas 2010, one in March of this year, and I was delighted at the set up of the place.

The cats have plenty of room to roam free and are all clean and well cared for.

When you approach, the whole set up doesn't look too special but when you get in, you can see how the cats really own and rule the place and the human assistants are just there to cater to their every need.

The assistants get to know every cat personally and can tell you a potted history of that animals. A feat in itself as there are cats everywhere. The assistants know that each cat is an individual with their own personality and can fit a person with a cat seemingly at a glance.

There is a special part of the shelter indoors where there are plenty of beds and settees and bean bags warm all the time where the cats can just hang out and doze if they so choose.

All in all, I would recommend this cat's paradise to any animal lover who is serious about adopting a life time companion.

Our Best Friend

We adopted a dog called Jenny from here 11 years ago - best thing we ever did. Fantastic people, very friendly and helpful and we had no regrets at any time about the dog we chose.

We were advised well and this helped us with the choice of dog - and it worked.

Unfortunately we have just had to have Jenny put down because of cancer, however, if and when we ever need another dog Millstream will be our first choice.
