Don’t Bother

Have a safe, loving, experienced terrier owing home to offer.

Filled in the rehoming form, never had a reply, and the poor dog is still shown as available on the website.

Not sure they really want to find these dogs homes!

Dishonest!

We are feeling very angry and cheated by this rescue remedies dog rescue. After jumping through there hoops and being ignored. We finally got a telephone interview as we knew one of there dog walkers. It seems to be a friend's only club. Anyway, arranged a meeting and we're informed that we must be prepared to take a dog home that same day. Not a problem. We'd seen him through the friendly dog walker and liked the look of him. On meeting the skinny mangey pup, he looked so vulnerable we had to have him. Unfortunately we were informed he hadn't been castrated yet so wasn't available. Not a problem, we could wait for him. The rules then changed and we could have him immediately and they would rearrange his castration and 2nd vaccination. 4 days later he collapsed with heat stroke. He had been indoors due to the heat and him being bald due to the mange. 2 vets later. 2 nights in hospital, numerous tests and examinations resulting in nearly £2700 we got our boy home. After contacting the rescue to try and gather any information that could possibly help with his treatment, I was informed by the owner that 'of course he has kennel cough, they all do!' Information we were not told or we would of got him treatment. We have now been accused of trying him to a tree in the heat causing him to collapse. This rescue has chosen to pay with there discount the smaller initial vet bill and not washed there hands of any responsibility for him. Our telepathic powers unfortunately let us down and on his routine vaccination appointment we had to pay. We had already paid £400 to the rescue.

Basically they make the rules up as they go along and if you question them you get accused of mistreatment.

Yes the dogs all need homes, but they take advantage of this.

Awful place!

Terrible Experience

Believe all the terrible reviews. They are a rescue centre supposedly focussed on finding homes for dogs who desperately need them. However, it's like they don't want to let anyone have a dog and instead they make you jump through hoops with their ridiculous questionnaire in which your truthful answers are held against you. Then they will only let you have a dog if you agree to a 'no lead' rule which is just stupid (and not one that other charities such as Dogs Trust, RSPCA, Battersea, Blue Cross etc have in place).

I have enough experience and commmon sense to know that I can only let a dog (of any breed and however well trained) off lead in a secure place well away from roads. I'm not stupid. There is no legal requirement for this rule (they've just made it up) and they have no power to enforce that once you do take on a dog. Respectable dog owners will not do anything that will put their dog at risk so if it is not safe to let a dog off lead, we will not do that.

They will also stop you from having a dog because you select the answer that says you let your previous dogs off the lead. How is that even relevant? What do they know about my previous dogs (of which none have ever been kidnapped, run over or lost!).

To then add insult to injury they phone and lecture you for 20 to 30 minutes about why you're not allowed a dog! When you try to ask a question, you are talked over. Even when trying to cut short the call by saying "okay I understand" the lecture from the so called expert continued!

The reasons given to me were all complete rubbish. They were just stupid excuses. The best one was that I don't have experience of terriers despite my previous rescue dog being a terrier! It would be funny if the lives of those poor dogs needing homes wasn't at stake.

This charity is run by people who are not putting the needs of the dogs first.

As someone with nearly 40 years experience of looking after rescue dogs (some with extreme emotional and behavioural issues) I feel so sorry for all the poor dogs who could have had lovely homes with so many people who have been turned down for ridiculously petty and stupid reasons.

Animal Welfare Not Considered!

I volunteered at Rescue remedies cat rescue with the cats, but was told to leave because I raised welfare concerns. Cats welfare is not considered, for example cats who are strangers to each other getting shoved in the same pen, causing stress and anxiety for the cats. Every time I went there was multiple cats who had been sick and overflowing litter trays. The owner admitted she knows nothing about cats but yet won't accept any help or advice. There were several cats who's health we were concerned about, but we were told they didn't have the money to take them to the vets. Poor cats suffered because of their neglect. They have a feral cat there and they kicked him out of his shed to rehome more cats, leaving him out in the freezing cold. I have friends who have been trying to adopt a dog there but they have had little to no communication. This rescue is an absolute joke and realistically should be shut down. Unfortunately as soon as welfare issues are raised, the person raising them gets kicked out. So many bad things going on in this place. Staff and senior volunteers are extremely rude to customers and other volunteers who give up their time. Please think carefully before giving this place your money.

Rescue Remedies, Horsham…i Feel Sorry For The Dogs

I came across these people online.

Having lost our previous rescue we are looking to take another terrier and one took our eye as being available with the accompanying text stating that this was an emergency and the dog had nowhere to go. In addition, the site went onto say that unless the prospective adopter was not prepared to take the dog within 7 days then, basically, don’t even bother us by filling in the forms.

I filled in the form (more of the form later) and cleared my diary to enable us to visit the dog a couple of days later and gave a date to do this as required. The fact that we are in Derbyshire and the dog is near Gatwick should indicate that we are serious.

However, since the form was submitted on 29 October, apart from an automated reply on 30 October, NOTHING.

Rescue Remedies start off negatively by stating they may not be able to match you with a dog and go on to say that if you haven’t heard anything in 2 weeks then you have not been successful i.e. we can’t even be bothered to inform you.

Remember, this is an emergency and today (13 November) the dog is still showing as ‘Available’ in an emergency situation and, looking at the site again, has been since 13 September.

It would also seem to me that all the same dogs continue to be advertised.

The whole process has an air of excessive control about it and takes no account of the feelings and requirements of prospective adopters who are looking forward to welcoming a new dog.

Back to the totally haphazard and amateurish form…

Lots of meaningless questions (70+) with some repeated in different form and answers required in great detail. Apart from anything else, I wonder how secure this huge amount of my personal information is with Rescue Remedies?

The form cannot be sent without all questions being answered so problems occur when asked…

‘Actual time dog left during the working day?’

I had already put ‘Retired’ (i.e. not working) to the question asking my occupation but, as with the date for visiting the dog, a value has to be entered or the form cannot be submitted.

There are many other similar occurrences and, based on this flawed and inaccurate information, Rescue Remedies will match prospective adopters with dogs in their care!

I am posting comments to this site as to do so on the Rescue Remedies site requires the setting up of an account. However, an account is only open to ‘people familiar with the Rescue’ (existing walkers, fosterers, adopters etc’)…’all other applications will be refused’.

No chance of a bad review there then…

I will copy this text to Rescue Remedies in the faint hope that they will be in touch about the dog we are interesting in adopting but, if not, with instructions to immediately remove my personal information from their records and not share it with any 3rd party.

Wow Not A Good Experience

We have had over 12 dogs through the years, including a delinquent jrt and a re homed patterdale both of which turned out to be just fine after a lot of work.We had a home vetting phone call this morning, the Lady did not ask whether this was a convenient time,It was not.The call lasted 12 minutes untill my wife terminated it so distressed she was nearly in tears with rage,You never asked one question you lectured us on dog needs, how people we would abandon a dog rather than return it,how we expected a perfect dog and how we lived so far away it was not a great idea. When asked if we walked our now deceased patterdale dog off the lead my wife said yes she never got chance to say only in our wood/lane we have no neighbours for over a mile, the tirade carried on for well over a minute or too until she had to terminate the call because she was so distressed.I dont doubt you love dogs dont abuse people you dont know.I listened to the call and I am still shaking with rage 2 hours later. If you get to read this you know who not to contact and bth I never leave bad reviews this is my first.

Last Chance Saloon

I’ve been a volunteer for RR since 2015 . I lost my own staffie to cancer .

It makes me very sad that disgruntled people who don’t get always the dog they see on the web site write such dreadful reviews about RR .

Do these people know how many dogs are euthanised because they are abandoned , owners have died or they have behaviour issues .

RR saves lives . Dogs might only have seven days in the pound and that’s it . DEATH comes next .

So who are you people ? What right do you have to do this rescue down .

Their are many many happy failed fosterers me being one and loving owners who have given an RR dogs forever home .

These are the lucky ones with out this rescue they wouldn’t be here .

So think on . The only ones who suffer are the Dogs

Dogs Needs Always Come First

I had to rehome my dog and it was a very upsetting time for us both. RR were fantastic they spoke to me on the phone and I travelled to their centre with my dog. They were fantastic and I have no doubt they saved my dogs life. I will always be grateful for their help and understanding. Please do not take any notice of the negative comments about RR they will only place a dog where they will be happy and safe. You might want a particular breed but doesn't mean they are suited to you and your circumstances. I know this from my own experience.

100% Would Recommend Rescue Remedies Dog Rescue

I have been a supporter of Rescue Remedies dog Rescue now since May 2015 when my son and I became volunteer walkers for the dogs in their rescue. We really enjoyed doing this especially as it was a way that the dogs in their care were able to get some exercise on walks in the wooded area surrounding the rescue. The dogs loved this and you could see their excitement the moment we entered their kennel and they knew they were going for a walk. Volunteers walking dogs is important as it is essential that they get out for walks and exercise. The rescue also have a paddock area and in the good weather they could have a good run around and burn off more energy. Over the years a lot of work has been done to ensure the dogs accommodation is adequate. When possible some dogs went out for foster breaks either for a day, a weekend or sometimes longer during school holidays.

One thing I love about Rescue Remedies dog Rescue is the fact that they will take all dogs regardless of any behavioural issues. I have seen dogs come into the rescue who have been abused by their previous owners and are naturally very nervous. This rescue will work with these dogs in order to gain their confidence and it is amazing to see the turnaround in these dogs, who then go on to be homed. Whereas some rescues will only take dogs that have no problems, Rescue Remedies will take in dogs who are on death row in dog pounds, as well as dogs who have had a history of abuse, whether it be from a family home or dogs who have been in puppy mills or similar. If Rescue Remedies had not taken in these dogs then they most likely would not be alive today.

When it comes to homing the dogs the main ethos of the rescue is to ensure that each dog is homed into a suitable home. Each dog has their own needs - some can't live with other dogs, some don't like cats while others can't live with children, plus other special needs. At all times I noticed that the rescues main purpose was the care of the dogs in their care and to ensure that each dog was homed in a suitable environment based on their individual needs.

As well as a supporter I am now also an owner of a dog from Rescue Remedies Dog Rescue. The dog we adopted was one of the dogs I walked as a volunteer. I had already got to love her on our walks. We then fostered her for two weekends, after which we then decided we would like to adopt her in August 2015, which was the best decision we ever made. When the time comes I would without a doubt adopt another dog from Rescue Remedies.

I would 100% recommend Rescue Remedies Dog Rescue to anyone who is considering adopting a rescue dog.
