Baumatic - Never Heard Of Them, But It Seems Alright..
Had never heard of the Baumatic make. Needed a new single built in gas oven, as our Parkinson Cowan oven [a supposedly near the top of their range models] had died after 19 years - but in that time there were 4 call outs for repairs, which cost more than the oven originally.
Saw the Baumatic was offering free 2 years labour and 5 years parts guarantee. The BO610.5 is a discontinued model, possibly that is why the price was reduced by £100. The SS stands for 'stainless steel'. The oven has 5 shelf positions, and there is a grill, which is situated at the top of the oven. The grill flame is not adjustable, but you will have to decide which shelf position to use when grilling. The oven temp. dial is in Centigrade, rather than gas marks. There is also a fan in the oven, which certainly speeds up cooking times. The shelf width is about 17"(approx 430mm).Large grill pan with a very handy detachable handle.
From reviews, here and elsewhere, others criticise the Baumatic range for slow lighting of the gas - taking up to 10 seconds before the flame lights and stays on, but I have not experienced that in the 2 days we have had it.
Very impressed by this model, and I will probably update my observations later after a few weeks/months of use. At the moment this oven looks like a good buy.
We have now had the Baumatic for approx. 1 month, and we are very satisfied with it. There are 5 shelf positions, and the grill pan is the same width as the shelf width (17") so the grill pan can be placed in any of the 5 shelf positions.
One thing to beware of is the following - the gas burner is situated at the bottom of the oven, and runs from front to rear. It is covered with a metallic plate, DO NOT place anything on top of that plate(at the bottom of the oven) in order to keep something warm, otherwise it will be 'cooked' even more. With a conventional oven - burner at the rear, it was possible to place food on the bottom of the oven, whilst other food was cooking above.
With the fan in this oven cooking times are also reduced. So after 1 month of use, we have no gripes about this Baumatic Oven,
Q&A
It says this oven needs to be wired into a spur. Can it just have a 13 amp plug?
