Lec Chest Freezer. And Lec In General.
I bought this LEC chest freezer in August, 2007, ie 4 years ago. It has performed well since bought. Simple to use, and no problems until Dec 2nd 2011, when it stopped working. Called out an independent refrigeration engineer, who has almosy 40 yrs experience of domestic and shop units. His examination showed that the compressor had failed. It was repairable but he refused to do it, saying it would be cheaper to buy a new freezer. The compressor would cost about £100, + other small parts, then fitting, re-gassing etc., would have put the repair bill in the region of £200. As the freezer cost £109 when new I could see his advice was correct. He says that LEC are not the company they once were(when based in Bognor Regis)and their products are not up to their old standard. He told me that the original compressor had been manufactured in the Far East; the freezer was not in fact a LEC make, but that it had been made in Scandinavia- he stated the thermostat control was the give away; and on the back of the freezer was a label showing it had been made in Denmark.I would never buy another LEC appliance - 4 years of use is absolute robbery. He thought I might have been unlucky with it,but he re-emphasised that LEC products are mot what they were.
