Avoid Like The Plague
My fiancé and I decided to use Debenhams for our wedding giftlist service and it's an absolute joke! One problem after another. First of all the process around activation of the list is confusing and not clear on the website, meaning ours took longer than it was meant to to activate. Various emails between myself and their customer service centre resulted me getting told different things each time, all of which contradicted what was on the website. Apparently you need to add a giftcard to the list for it to activate. They also removed 10 items from our list without telling us even though they were in stock meaning we had to re-add them. Fortunately we had the print out of the list. Since then a large percentage of the items that guests have bought for us have gone out of stock meaning their money gets refunded on to a Debenhams giftcard. Also various guests have tried to buy us gifts but the site doesn't take certain cards to they were unable to even though this is not clear. Again various emails between myself and Debenhams to try to resolve this and I'm getting nowhere. They refuse to acknowledge there's an issue and keep trying to fob me off with their rubbish customer service. We still have 5 week til the wedding so another 5 weeks of this and then delivery afterwards so I dread to think what else will happen. Avoid at all costs!

If I had known my daughter had signed up to this shambles for her gift list I would have had her certified insane. I had dealings with them a year back when my friend's son set up a gift list. The problems now are the same. Half the stuff not there. Stuff being removed from the list that's not been bought and worst of all, when you get to the checkout your card is declined for no reason. It's accepted everywhere else. Oh, and there's no contact email that I can find. My daughter made a huge complaint after people told her this was happening and just got fobbed off. They NEVER have problems apparently.

Absolutely Hopeless
Terrible service and thigs not explained well by staff. Items became unavailable or out of stock. Friends trying to purchase items had their money out onto a gift card which they didn't want to happen. Terribly disappointing for a huge company and a great loss to them to offer a very unsatisfactory service. Not impressed at all.

Appalling Debenhams Gift List
Debenhams gives a sub standard service. DO NOT USE THEM UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. Travel the distance to another store. We used both the Bristol and Gloucester stores. The gift lift advisors were always on breaks. Lots of the items we chose in store were not available, not that our guests could see that so they just had money taken and put on a gift card. The staff were very rude and point blank wrong repeatedly and we strongly advise you use another store. Good luck if you need to return an item. You can't.
Poor Communication
I contacted them regarding my order and was told the couple were not registered on their wedding gift list service yet Debenhams had taken my order and my money. Despite me giving list details and asking if my gift had been delivered Debenhams have not contacted me again. Very poor customer service.
A Waste Of Space!
I have tried unsuccessfully to set up a gift list with Debenhams. It has been a very time consuming and frustrating experience. My first two attempts (via the Carlisle store) were cancelled by the store without any consultation or reason. I rang the store via the only available phone number which is an 0844/premium rate number (5p/minute!).The first time I rang I was told that there was no one there who dealt with the Gift List and suggested I ring back at a different time. On the second occasion that I rang the store, it took several minutes to get through the automated system only to be put on hold for a further twenty minutes. When I eventually managed to speak to a member of staff they were unable to help me and could not provide an explanation for the account being cancelled.
I then emailed the head office who replied promptly but said they could not help me as the gift lists are managed by the individual host stores themselves.
For reasons best known to myself I decided to have one more go. I chose the Gateshead store as my host store this time- hopeful that I might get better service. This proved to be a vain hope! Many hours were spent compiling the list - - again! The list remained'active' for about two weeks and then it was again cancelled. I have not wasted any more of my time and money ringing the store. I consider Debenhams Gift List Service not to be a service at all. Many of the items the store has available to purchase (either in store or on line) are NOT available on the 'Gift List'option. I suspect that those items that are available to access via a gift list are items for which they need to boost their sales. They tempt the customer in by cheap or reduced prices,by making false promises to help make your 'special day' special. They imply that by using their service it will help to make planning your day easier. They have provided me with nothing except a lot of frustration, anger and despair. I would not recommend this service to anyone, they have only their best interests at heart. Perhaps my gift list wasn't big enough to make it worth while for them. I don't know because whilst I have tried to communicate with them , they have made no effort to contact me or give me any explanation for their appalling service.
PS. I live in a rural location and 50 miles away from from my nearest shopping center, so calling into Debenhams and creating a scene is not a viable option - otherwise I would!

Rubbish
Lots of items were cancelled/unavailable but then put back on the list so someone else could try buy them! Causing many multiple cancelations!! Had broken items given to us too!

Easy to set up the list, but actually a very small range of items to choose from.
When it came to my guests purchasing items - lots of thing turned out to be out of stock and thus presented me with the awkward situation of having to tell my guests that they couldn't buy certain things for us anymore. I tried to speak to customer services both nationally and locally to enquire and raise this issue, but no one really cared!
They knew my wedding date, and clearly knew when certain things would be discontinued, so why offer them to me in the first place?
Whole system is ridiculous, and nobody seems interested in me as a customer!
I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND DEBEMHAMS AT ALL! I wish I had gone to John Lewis or something
Do Not Use
Had an awful experience with the wedding gift list. Most of our list suddenly became out of stock when people bought an item and we were not informed until days later. when we went into the store the next day there were plenty of items on the shelf that were apparently out of stock or discontinued! WE complained and suddenly these items were all of a sudden in stock and back on the gift list! the money that guests spent on these out of stock items was put on our gift card and most did not have an option with this and were very disappointed to know later that they were not actually giving us a physical gift! A few items that we did get arrived bashed or the wrong size and after reordering these items in correct sizes colours etc they still arrived wrong. I had to get really annoyed with the store before they would give me a cash refund over store credit for these items they kept getting wrong. Dont bother giving Debenhams the money - go elsewhere and get better customer service.
I am having a similar experience right now!! Very angry customer!
