The atmosphere and service at Ruthin Castle are wonderful and there is a fantastic spa that has been very carefully created to restore one of the older parts of the castle by the old moat. Don't confuse this hotel with 'The Castle Hotel' in the town square, which is a pub or inn, Ruthin Castle itself is about 100 yards from the square and is a totally different experience. Our room was gorgeous and all our friends were more than happy with theirs too. Since the last reviews on this website in 2007 the hotel has been upgraded from a three star hotel to a very good quality four star hotel, and it shows!! Food in Bertie's was faultless and we all wished that we could have stayed longer. Treatments in the spa were very professional and heavenly including an unexpected complimentary foot wash with scented Welsh sea salt. The hot tub area had a unique feel almost like a winery and there were traditional saunas and steam rooms etc. Unusually for the UK there was an outdoor woodland area combined with the internal spa and this had its own sauna tent, hot tub and some peaceful seating. Planning to return soon and for longer!

the grounds are great for exploring, watch out for ghosts!!!

The rooms, bed rooms are functional not luxury, but this is an ancient castle.

The honeymoon suite is great!!

All the main rooms add to the occasion and are furnished to match.

The hotel service staff are credit and can not help enough especially the bar staff.

The food is excellent even when catering for over 80.

I do have one negative comment, the some of the front of house staff and the wedding coordinator are very disorganised, and could ruin a wedding for a perfectionist.

A generally enjoyable experience but felt the room was rather expensive as it was very basic. Staff extremely competent and efficient - very professional and food was delicious - dinner wonderful. Breakfast passable but lots of choice. Obviously you pay extra cause it's a castle and it is never going to be perfect!
