The Worst Cc Servics
If anyone is considering JL money/credit cards, please don’t bother. They are simply the worst you’ll ever come across.
We love John Lewis and as a matter of fact it is an insult to have this trustworthy establishment being associated with such a low service from this company that handles the credit cards.
The cards are often blocked from no obvious reasons and to no fault on us. Trying to unblock it, you’ll be faced with an illogical process, low intelligence staff and most frustrating experiences. John Lewis, please do something about it, if only this could be possible without change of supplier. At the end of their contract, please consider bringing on board people who can represent you and your names adequately and provide your clients with a reliable service. So far, the only thing we are faced with is a terrible service and high frustrations. They are pushing your loyal clients away and competitions do exist. JL, you have to act and very promptly.
Newday Are Trashing The John Lewis Brand
Just another example of deterioration in the service quality branded under John Lewis. Ever since NewDay took over the old JL card, the admittedly few occasions we have had to contact them have led to poor customer experience and a total lack of human service. Their processes such as for fraud prevention are lamentable. They blocked a small regular monthly payment to our mobile phone service provider as it was a suspected fraud, even though the same amount had been paid each month under all the same process many times before. We had to launch a complaint to be heard properly, but all this resulted in was a standard 'we didn't make any errors' complaints decision. Their processes are too automated and designed by people who really don't seem to be very experienced as customers at all. And there seems to be very poor understanding of what the JL brand has meant in the UK psyche for so many years. We would say NewDay is possibly going to be viewed as the final nail in JL's coffin over the next few years.

Not Worthy Of John Lewis.name
The new card provider Newday is bad in so many ways compared to the competition and it reflects badly on John Lewis. There is much in a name. John Lewis financial services put their name behind the credit card but meaningless names like "Newday" always seem to ring alarm bellsfor me.
The reality is that I now use the card very little compared to previously and have significantly reduced my spending with both Waitrose and John Lewis as a consequence.
I invaribly would pay my balance off in full each month but as we all know that does not allow card providers to make the most money out of you. They have reduced the the interest free period on purchases by approx 2 weeks from 56 to 44 days and a similar reduction in payment date between statement and balance due coupled with their representative apr 28.9 % which is no longer competitive compared with say ,M&S. It looks to me that John Lewis have tied up with a card provider intent in squeezing the most out of and to the detriment of their loyal customers.
Which bright spark thought that would be good for their reputation and their business? Perhaps they banked on most customers not noticing .Well thankfully there is plenty of choice out there and this previously loyal customer has voted with his feet, It's a shame really for such a great brand as John lewis but that's what happens when you allow that to be dilluted and take your customer loyalty for granted..
I wholeheartedly agree and will be ditching my John Lewis card in favour of M&S. I am so disappointed with John Lewis’s choice of credit card provider and the fact that JL take their customers loyalty for granted by allowing NewDay to dictate the terms and conditions of a credit card that was once one of the best. I’m afraid I will be shopping elsewhere a lot more too.

Unreliable Card With Poor Customer Service
You can’t rely on this card. It often fails to work despite the two step security where you authorise the transaction via the app. It’s let me down repeatedly in this way but was unusable abroad which could have caused major hassle (luckily I had cash). When I complained back in the UK they were unable to say why, or that it wouldn’t happen again. I raised this as a formal complaint and heard nothing. I’ve closed the account. The paltry points for John Lewis aren’t worth the inconvenience.

Tel No To Continue Paper A/c Cannot Connect
As per New Day email that they are going over to purely electronic a/c I decided to maintain the paper service purely because it is sooo very bad and in the past ‘lost’ my account and payment
Now I find the tel no given by ND to continue this paper account service has a message saying this number will not be connected. It was due to be operational till the end of May 24. No explanation and no further number.
I am writing to ND to complain and I’m so exasperated by their lack of service I will terminate my John Lewis account entirely. JL you should be ashamed

I Absolutely Hate This Card
Like most other cardholders, I suspect, I transferred to the Newday card when John Lewis closed their existing card.
I seem to recall written assurances that the quality of this card & its service would remain the same. This has turned out to be completely & utterly untrue.
I have put up with the card being 'refused' on a 'tap' basis around 25% of the time-but approved if I put in my pin number. This is embarassing in public & is done without notice & for no reason.
Yesterday, I applied online to increase my credit limit- where publicity stated that the answer would be instant-which it was; I was instantly refused!
I have an unblemished credit history going back 50 years. The reasons given for the refusal were general & not at all applicable to me. I therefore had to call them. When I finally got through, to my astonishment, I was told that Newday never agreed to credit limit increases if the existing limit was over £6000!
What sort of a gimcrack outfit has a universal limit that low in 2024? It is almost useless for major purchases on this basis. John Lewwis should be ashamed that this card bears their name & should return to a 'gold standard' provider!
Oh & just to add salt to the wound, I have just had a £1 payment for a 3 day trial of a service-REFUSED! Am now VERY concerned that all this will negatively affect my overall credit rating.
This is & always has been my sole credit card-but no longer-it will have to go as I am not prepared to take any more public humiliation.
Shame on you John Lewis-another part of your offering going down the toilet!

Lost Payment
Dreadful. Never experienced anything so bad.
In Jan 2024 i paid my Dec 23 balance in full. In Jan I realised it had not gone onto my credit card. Newday said it was because i had paid it as a transfer from my bank account rather than through the JL website. They identified the pmt sitting in a holding a/c but refused to trf it to my credit card unless my bank provided a trace file. Natwest has tried to contact them but newday will not respond. After many hours on the phone Newday transferred the pmt to my credit card in Feb but then transferred it back out again on 23rd Feb without informing me. They refuse to say why.They now refuse to take any further action. They will not respond to natwest my bank. They will not trf the pmt to my credit card. They will not return the payment to me or natwest. I am so frustated. I am at my wits end. Do NOT use them if possible.

Bad In So Many Ways
JL credit card takes days to clear the balance, which seems odd when you can make a payment onto the card and it clears instantly. I changed the payment due date to be closer to payday so the money clears faster and im not penniless for a week waiting for it to clear...but theyve changed my payment due date back without permission. So I changed it back again, maxxing out my allowance of three changes. Thats confused them and now I have no March statement and they want to wait another month to take the next bill. Meaning ive got two months of card payment due in one month. I now dont trust them and will be cutting the card up now.

Balance Transfer Takes Ages
I have been trying to sort my finances. A balance transfer from my New Days card to First direct went through on 28th December 2023 in that it is now showing in my First Direct account as being in debit.
It is 12th January and the funds still haven’t cleared in my Newdays John Lewis credit card. They are charging me for money that must have cleared by now given it has been over two weeks.
Absolutely disgusting. I cannot wait to clear this account and leave Newdays.

Stranded Without Card
I have just had my credit card blocked because of a £2.90 transaction while I am traveling in Australia and it was my intention to use this card while traveling for hotels, car hire, etc. No help from the John Lewis card staff. Just we can only send the card to the address on your account and you have to sort out all other issues yourself. I will not be returning for another 6 weeks but John Lewis staff could not care what position I am left in the other side of the world.
Lousy service and we have rules
