Not Widely Accepted.

I have a Barclays Business Debit card, and I use it for various things such as filling the car with fuel. It really is a hit and miss experience now with Barclays. I don't know from garage to garage which one will accept my card, and which ones will not. It happens now at shops quite a lot. You hand over your card to pay for something, and you're greeted with, "Sorry - we don't accept business debit cards." Not something you expect to hear while purchasing office supplies! I've tried contacting Barclays to ask why this is - you invariably are put through to India, where they struggle to understand you, and you they, and each time I'm given completely useless information, yet no direct answer as to why my card is not accepted at a growing number of retail outlets. Pretty poor service in my opinion, and I'm now searching for a better alternative to Barclays.

I Wished To Use My Barclays Connect Card For &poun

I wished to use my Barclays Connect card for £3000 purchase and was informed by my Barclays branch to ring card services prior to my purchase.Card services tell me they have no provision to mark their files about a planned purchase and if it is declined (most likely as it is out of the norm for me) to ring them at the time of the transaction. As I was on hold for some time to obtain this answer I do not think I wish to be embarassed further.Wake up Barclays and make some provision for these circumstances there are plenty of banks out there!

I Don't Have Much Confidence In Using My Barclays

I DON'T HAVE MUCH CONFIDENCE IN USING MY BARCLAYS DEBIT CARD AS ON 2 OCCASIONS WHEN I HAVE ATTEMPTED TO USE IT FOR LARGER AMOUNTS OF BETWEEN £3,000/£4,000 THE PAYMENT HAS NOT BEEN AUTHORISED. ON BOTH OCCASIONS THERE WAS MORE THAN ENOUGH FUNDS IN MY ACCOUNT AND WHEN I CALLED IN MY BRANCH FOR AN EXPLANATION, NO SATISFACTORY REASON WAS GIVEN. I'M WANTING TO USE IT THIS WEEK TO PAY FOR A VEHICLE (£14,000) BUT DESPITE THE FACT THAT THE MONEY IS IN MY ACCOUNT I CAN'T HELP FEELING I'LL BE EMBARRASSED AGAIN. IF I AM IT WILL BE THE END OF A LOVELY FRIENDSHIP.

The Card Is Reliable (so Far Didn't Have Any Probl

The card is reliable (so far didn't have any problem with it). Although in my opinion, the fee charged to have a Visa Debit Card from Barclays is ridiculous. It doesn't make sense that to be a Visa Debit Card from Barclays is more expensive (yearly) then to be holder of a Credit Card from other issuer.

I Have Applied Several Times For A Barclays Debit

I have applied several times for a Barclays debit card.

I do not have any debt history. Why is Barclays not co-operating.

I have a job and I have run the account for almost 2 years.

I believe this is a catch 22 situation. You will find that most banks have this policy where if you don't have any credit they wont give it to you.

A good way round this is to get a credit card with someone like Capital One or MNBA (they seem to be the easiest) and make one or two purchases paying off the balance in full, then you will find that your bank will give you your debit card. Please note that I would not recommend either of the credit cards for everyday use as they tend to have higher interest rates and low credit limits. But both are OK just for this purpose.

I Frequently Travel Around The World And Rely On M

I frequently travel around the world and rely on my Barclays Debit card. I often pay hotel bills and other large ammounts on it. When I bought my wife a 30th anniversary gift last Christmas my card was refused. The retailer was asked to check my passport and any other ID. They were all checked out OK. Still refused. No explanation. All staff turn their backs on you to save your embarassment. You retire to die of shame. On returning home from the U.S. Barclays told me this was OK and was done for my protection. All transactions above a certain ammount were checked out-but couldn't tell me what that ammount was. After checking me out why was I still refused? Barclays blamed everyone from the retailer to the phone company - but it wasn't Barclays fault! My wife paid for her gift on her HSBC debit-no hassle. Why add insult to the injury Barclays? Accept you made a mistake and stop insulting my intelligence. I now have another banks card-no problems -yet!
