Worse Claims Company Ever

My claim has been with these people under recommendation from the AA since October 2022 and to date it is still pending despite my car being written off by an untraceable driver. Their service is terrible, poor communication, they leave you in limbo. I called and was told the police had got back to them and the case worker needed to update and that was over two months ago. The case worker still has not called or updated my case. I have lost all my no claims bonus and been charged an exorbitant amount by the AA whom I have now left. I hate that all you have to do is park your car and these miscreants come along destroy it and left. But despite having all the evidence on camera and the police themselves towing my car away and the records showing I had nothing to do with my vehicle being written off - MIB can't get their act together even though they have all of this on file. Nobody seems to know what is happening with anything in their office and everyone is quick to pass the buck. The fact is you will get no help at all if you have an untraceable driver destroy your car. Might as well just buy a new vehicle and call it a day. Should this ever happen in future I won't even report it. Useless job lot!

Rejected Claim

I was involved in a hit and run as a pedestrian and sustained a broken leg and suffered from the trauma. The driver was untraceable and a claim was made with the MIB. Since then they have tried everything to degrade, disregard and dismiss my claim based on some clause not being satisfied. In my experience The MIB don't have a care in the world about victims of untraceable/uninsured drivers even when they acknowledge I sustained my injuries as a result from a direct blow from a vehicle. The police never made any attempt or effort to investigate and ultimately claim that 'they did everything they could at the scene but there was a lack of evidence'. The police in their lack of professionalism missed a vital camera from the scene as closed the case down on the same day. Whilst i spent 10 nights in a trauma and orthopaedic ward undergoing surgery to my left leg to wire the knee cap back together, and a further 3 months on crutches at home. I was never seen to by a police officer to get a statement or even ask what had happened.

The MIB purposefully hand picked out some documents from the police and medical records that had some compelling evince on it due to miscommunications at the scene of the crime. None the less I am left with a disability, a significant life changing injury and the aftermath of the PTSD because of the failings of the emergency services. I have fell through the net and have never been compensated for this injury and personally feel let down by the systems in place to protect the public from untraceable drivers who commit criminal and road traffic offences.

The MIB is a sham and clearly needs updating to a more robust and sophisticated system to protect the public. I am looking for other people who have had a MIB claim rejected to contact me and we shall go from there.

Motor Insurance Bureau

The mib is a good thing to have around, however, the site that allows you to check on 3rd oarty insurance after an accident? Not so much.

The site charged me 4 quid this weekend. Its not a lot of money, but 4 pounds for nothing at all is rubbish no matter how you look at it.

In theory, its a good service, and no doubt many are happy with it, but it has a huge flaw in how its run. Picture the scenario, you are driving along happily, you stop at a set of lights and the car behind rams you. In the ensuing swapping of numbers you get the name of the car driver and phone number, only realising afterwards that you didnt make a note of what car hit you beyond the colour and number plate. No problem though, you have a name and number plate. Alls good. This all happens on friday afternoon and your collision driver is ringing you later with his details.

You text him your details and await a reply. Friday night goes by and no call or text. Driver resolutely ignores you.

Thats ok, we can deal with insurance in monday, but in the meantime the MIB has a service to check the driver was insured.

You go to their site, finding out it will cost four pounds to use the service. For peace of mind its not a bad price.

It takes the four pounds via worldpay BEFORE allowing you to go further. Once paid the site then asks for the other drivers details. So, number plate entered, then you find it wants a lot more than just the basics. Full name of the guy that hit you, address, exact make of vehicle. Suddenly having the number plate is nowhere near enough. But that ok, trying to proceed allows you to select 'not known' for any fields you dont have. So lets carry on.

Keep in mind this is a one shot deal, no second chances. So when you are sure you have given all the details you have, part of the drivers full name, number plate, vehicle colour, you hit go.

Instantly the site tells you it cannot proceed as it does not have enough information to do so. But it will be looked into. It then blocks you from anything more.

Checking your email, theres a message to say you have paid 4 pounds to worldpay, and nothing else. No reassuring message that its in hand, no potential time frame for when you will get any info, or even if you will get any info. Basically, thanks for the four pounds, now go away.

Sunday goes by and nothing from the guy who hit you, and nothing from the mib either. Suddenly you panic, with nothing extra from the mib beyond we have taken your money, you suddenly start to wonder, was the worldpay bit one part where your email went and the mib part seperate? Did i make a mistake? Then the more scary thought that maybe you just put your debit card details into a spoof site? That silence from the mib is deafening. Further online searching then to make sure the site you used (at a time you were under duress) was legitimate.

Monday comes around and by ten am, still nothing from anyone, you finally ring the insurance and report the accident along with the other parties silence. On finishing that you write to the mib through their contact details (from the worldpay email) to complain that the info never came, that even if it does arrive now its too late and is useless to you, that the site was also useless to you at the time, and to point out areas where it unfairly traps you in despite the lack of extra info it knows it will need not being made clear before it takes your money. Surprisingly that email gets a response within an hour or so, explaining that the info was sent (just before their response to the email and after you complained) along with the statement the four pounds is not for results, its for the use of the service and that a refund is not possible.

If it told you on the main screen that any part of the info it required was not available, you would have the option not to proceed. So for example, if there was a list of what it does need to give you an instant result? Say, car model, number plate, drivers FULL name (spelt correctly) and address, then you could opt to not throw away four pounds on something that is NOT going to give you speedy results. It does not do this however, instead taking your money and then dropping the you have insufficient info delay on you. The lack of any automated follow up email when it does fail to throw out the details needed further disappoints.

To me the service failed to live up to its own hype. Instead of giving me peace of mind, it instead left me four pounds worse off and worrying even more over the weekend.

As I said earlier, for many it may be useful, and had it been mon-fri (which I am guessing is the hours worked based on the lack of any responses over the weekend), then maybe it works better?. But for me over a weekend? Useless is the best description, and it took a four pounds payment to find that out.

Skip this service if you are in a bump and just ring your insurance, let them deal with things.
