Watch Out For Sneaky Auto Renewal Practice
Watch out for their sneaky automatic renewal policy buried deep in their terms and conditions. Everything is communicated up until this point by email or through the online portal but the automatic renewal notification is sent by post !! I cancelled on the day that it renewed (they told me by email the night before and it was a Sunday night so I could not phone them to cancel) and was charged £25 cancellation fee ! This is a dirty practice and it's typical of Santander living up to their poor reputation. Avoid !

Zero stars is still too many for this company! Wanted to buy a car, apparently one to two days and the finance is through but not if you are a foreigner and doesn't matter if you have a mortgage and a settled status as well as send in four utility bills and council tax, bank statements, your driving licence and your passport, it is still not enough proof that you live at the adress you gave them! Just wow! Over a week in and they kept asking EVERY DAY for the same stuff over and over again! Then finally apparently all has gone through to just get the question to send in ALL THE STUFF THEY ALREADY HAVE AGAIN!? What is wrong with this bank!? I had my finance in place but no the car has to be with santander! Ridiculous!!
My friend is also at the moment trying to get her mortgage through them UNFORTUNATELY and exactly the same problems, earning double than most people! What is your problem with foreigners? Don't you think we earned our way to where we are? Do you think it feels great to always have to proof 150 percent more than anyone else? Ridiculous and absolutely not professional! Now with a hard search on my credit but no car and having it even harder to get another car I am more than fuming and will tell literally everyone (university is full of foreigners) to stay away from this bank!

Okay to begin with, until you want to make changes .... then ... website poor, very little you can do without phoning, and when you do the costs start to rack up. Now trying to cancel the policy less than one month into the 2nd year and they want £129!
Be warned, there is a £25 admin fee every time you want to add a driver. Too many hidden costs.

Selected Santander for my car insurance as I bank with them and also have my mortgage with them. They were not the cheapest but did look good value and it's a well respected name isn't it....?
Imagine my shock when I get a letter from them telling me my premium has been increased by 45% because I omitted to tell them about a motorcycle accident claim from two years ago that I didn't declare -
1) The motorcycle claim had no effect on my mpremium when moving to a new motorcycle insurance provider and,
2) I thought vehicles has 4 wheels or more, bikes have two - however I now stand corrected
Rerunning my details through the price comparison websites with the bike accident added Santander still come out 15 to 20% more expensive..!!
Of course I can cancel my insurance and they'll charge me £50 admin fee...
Why am I feeling abused...?

Great Service!
They were slightly more expensive than price comparison sites but they gave me free breakdown cover (Big draw seen as how expensive that can be) and the service I have received was wonderful. Everyone in the UK, had a lovely chat with the advisers who talked me through the whole quote and acceptance process. Really a nice surprise compared to Santander banking customer service.
