Pet Insurance - Won't Pay Up

Just been advised that Tesco Pet Insurance are refusing to pay for dental checks and clean for our dog because the vet made reference to her teeth having mild to moderate calculus two and half years ago. He also said at the time no action needed other than continue brushing and cleaning routine. It so happens that this healthcheck which was actually for annual boosters was 11 days after us taking the policy out. This policy was taken out on the 1st March 2022 as that was when the previous policy lapsed. The 11th March appointment was already booked for annual boosters not for any other health concerns. Roll on 2 and half years and multiple 6 monthly health checks, on the last health check the vet advised that she would benefit having a scale and clean and x-rays because her teeth never look that clean and they wanted to rule out any underlying issue. I phoned Tesco Pet Insurance and was told this would be covered as long as she'd had regular health checks which she had. It turns out she has some rare condition that blackens the enamel and actually her teeth and gums are still strong with little tartar build up, no further treatment required other than usually routine. Tesco have refused to pay the claim for the x-rays and clean because the vet happened to reference teeth (but advised no action required) on the 11th March within 14 days of us taken out the policy. This is absolutely criminal and defeats the object of having pet insurance. This one decision has potential to cost us an absolute fortune in the future because other insurers won't take on what they perceive to be a pre-existing condition or if they do the premiums will be extortionate. It's no wonder owners have to get rid of their pets and put them into shelters, Tesco the premiums I've paid you to date more than cover this bill. I will be taking this one as far as I can, because as responsible dog owners we have done everything by the book and followed our vets advice throughout!

Amazing Insurance Service

I was previously with PetPlan for 4 years but the premiums were ridiculous and I had never claimed. I moved to Tesco which was far more reasonable. Just under a year with them my beloved border terrier started having seizures.

From my first phone call they were so lovely understanding and helpful. We treated him for epilepsy got 8 months and they paid every bill quickly no trouble. He wasn't improving and then we discovered it was a brain tumour and lost him.

Every dealing with them was amazing and they were so understanding. They settled everything quickly and they were really helpful.

I cant imagine having another dog yet but when I do I will definitely use Tesco pet insurance.

Tescon Artists

We have been with Tesco Pet Insurance for 20 years with 3 different dogs. I have only ever made one claim last year. Our premium has gone up to over £100 per month despite them only paying out a very low amount as their cover did not include the cost of the operation we needed. I am absolutely disgusted and I advise anyone to steer clear of them. They have no care or consideration for your pet and their policy is good for nothing. You may as well put the same amount away each month in a savings account. We have gone over to Waggle for our younger dog. Our older one is now uninsurable thanks to Tescon.

Empathetic Service

Cat stopped eating in April and after many vet visits where they ‘guessed’ what could be wrong, resulting in some costly experiments both financially and to my poor boy’s well-being, cancer was eventually discovered. We had to put our beloved boy to sleep literally overnight at that stage. It was a very emotionally trying time. Tesco pet insurance made this a little easier by settling the claims quickly and with no fuss. Received a letter about a month after his passing expressing their sympathy at him no longer being with us and providing a bereavement number which is available 24 hours. They also advised they had cancelled the policy on our behalf from the date of his passing and refunding a payment taken after this This level of service was very much appreciated at a time when pet owners are struggling with loss. Would definitely recommend them.

Payout Swindlers!

All the 1 star reviews all over the internet about Tesco pet insurance are absolutely spot on! This company will dig and dig to find absolutely anything to reject your claim and keep your premiums. Whether your vet and all evidence proves the contrary. You pay them only to be made out to be a liar when you want to claim. Will be taking them to ombudsman. Despicable service.

Worse Than Worse

Tesco went from bad to worse, which was extremely hard. They scrambled out of paying for a non pre existing condition, linking it to a comment a vet had said. We currently have an ongoing ombudsman case about this.

Now they will not pay out on something they had pre authorized. They are shameful and don't care about their customers or their pets. AVOID AVOID AVOID

Never Honoured A Claim

Waste of time, tesco made an error last year. They have taken no responsibility, not paid out. However they had no trouble taking all my DD payments.

Never A Single Problem

I've been insuring my dogs with Tesco for years, on and off when I can afford it. Never a single problem with payout. Once I had to go through a lengthy interrogation, which was not nice, but the outcome was still positive.

I've claimed for injuries and illnesses, Tesco are very good, as long as the claim is genuine and follows their T&C's.

Their customer service has always been polite and helpful.

I am prepared that one day they may reject my claim, but I think I'll try to see their side of things then, because in my experience, they do not try to get out of paying when there is no good reason for it.

Will Not Honour Claim

Avoid like the plague. When I had my shar pei puppy was noticed she had mild entropy and was stated by my vet no treatment was needed. After 6 years she had to have eye surgery as she had an eye ulcer and they will not pay the fees for vet surgery to clear this ulcer as it was noted this entropy was recorded in 2016. Even though I have had her insured with Tesco since 2017 after free insurance given with the price of the puppy they are refusing this claim.

I shall be insuring her in future somewhere else in future

Terrible Service

Paid 10years. My dog has a heart murmur 5 years ago. Never was a problem. Until now she needs tablets for heart failure. But has been refused any help. Because I didn’t say she had a heart murmur. They have taken payments for 10 years. Disgusting.
