What A Jeep! The 4.6 Has Everything And More, Powe

What a jeep! the 4.6 has everything and more, power, speed ,comfort. The only down side is you will never see above 20mpg and if you have to replace parts it will make you eyes water. It takes 8l of oil at £15+vat a litre, the front brake discs and pads are £540 from a bmw dealer and rear tyres cost £400 each. If you are on a tight budget this is not the SUV for you as running costs will put your lights out lol, and if you have money to spend then i can not think of a better car to throw your money at. Expect to pay £8000-£13000 depending on mileage and important to get one with full service history.Ask if the gearbox has been rebuilt as bmw only say the life time waranty is 50000 miles on their auto box, if it feels crunchie or changes at odd times or slips when going into reverse when at a stand still WALK AWAY unless you have £2500-£3000 for gearbox rebuild!!

A True Performance Machine...even With The Suv Pre

A true performance machine...even with the SUV preceding its X5-ness. Get ready for some head-turning, adrenaline pumping fun when you jump into a BMW X5 4.6iS. The interior complements the under the hood performance, with a well laid out dashboard.

First of all, most people rarely, maybe never use this car for extreme offroad, especially the 4.6is variant which is made to be a performance SUV. You don't expect someone going off roading with an SUV with a big and low profile tires, plus the body kit attached do you ? As in the new Range Rover, it may perform better in off road, but i doubt for really extreme off roading. It also shares the BMW engine and transmission, if you notice. You also noticed Porsche Cayenne there, and can't go offroad. Have you tried ? Porsche Cayenne was actually designed to have Porsche performance on road and capability of off roading as well, and looking at the features (ie. adjustable air suspension (like Range Rovers), sealed door sills to prevent water coming in while wading in the water, waterproofs electronic component (lights and wiring).. etc) this proofs that the car is also made for offroading, although not a really extreme one, as I don't think a Porsche Cayenne, BMW X5, Ranger Rover, Mercedes ML buyers would never really go for offroad. Even Hummer H1's owners never really take their Hummer for extreme offroad, even that car was made for that.

So for this SUV, I agree it's fun to drive, and fast, just like other performance BMW does.

Niall.

Must agree 100% with Craig from Bonny Scotland. BMW X5, Merc ML and Lexus RX, and most recently the pug-ugly Porsche Cayenne, DO NOT belong in the same cateory as full-blooded 4x4s (Defender, Discovery, Land Cruiser, Pajero, Trooper, etc.) Despite the advertisements, I have never seen an X5 or ML doing real 4x4 stuff - negotiating muddy fields at the local stables was the most I have seen them handle.

Craig.

arrgghh i don't get it, why under the heading of off roaders are you giving this car all marks possible, its a steroid fattened bmw, ok its good on road look at their saloons then, but as a farmer how am i to respect this, i'm sure your good people and all but answer this - what is a 4by 4 off roader meant to do?, can the bmw x5 do this well? i will say no more, a comment from another review site says: "The 2003 Range Rover offers style and pedigree, something the Lexus LX 470 does not have. It offers off-road capability and cargo space that BMW X5 drivers can only dream about. And it'll drive circles around the Mercedes G500 on the open road" -now thats an offroader
