Quality At An Affordable Price, Cheap To Run, Cheap To Insure, Great Car !
Although i don't actually own a Hyundai i30, I've been using one for the last 4 months, Its the 2010 Comfort Spec with the 1.6 CRDi Engine.
First impressions of the car i was overwhelmed, When did Hyundai make such desirable cars ?! (Abit of Badge Snobbery at first). When i sat behind the wheel the driving position was extremely comfortable, The interior feels very refined and well built using good solid materials that do not feel cheap. Infact the dash board looks very well built and appealing with its blue lit chrome dials and On board trip computer/Information Screen.
The sound system is good, Infact the Hyundai i30 is a comfortable place to be. You are also provided an 'Audi' style flip key with remote central locking etc etc, Which is a nice touch of course.
The 1.6 CRDi engine is a brilliant performer, Cheap to maintain, Cheap to run, And good fuel economy from a well built refined engine. The engine is very responsive unlike a few others i could mention, Theres no delay when you press the accelerator, The power is right there. For a 1.6 engine it does pull extremely well, I've done alot of uphill town driving and i must say it doesn't struggle to pull at all, I was very surprised by how much pull the engine had. The gearbox is very smooth, Something i loved about the i30, The gearstick slips into place in a very nice motion, No having to force and find the gear, The clutch is quite light (I'm used to Fords which have low biting points and quite heavy clutches), The hyundai's clutch had a lovely biting point to it.
Its a great car for any sort of driving, Around the town you have the power when you need it, Also the version i've been using has 'Stop Start' technology which claims to save 7% ? fuel economy, Although i had never used a car with this stop start technology, I was surprised when the engine turned off in neutral when i lifted my foot off the clutch (I though i'd stalled it!!). The engine turns over very quickly once you press the clutch back in, Or after a minute of being off, Must say this is a brilliant feature, Well done Hyundai !
The 6 gears ment you could cruise on motorways and dual carriageways with the engine hardly working, Saving fuel costs, and on engine wear to. The torque range is very good to unlike the focus, The power seems to be there through the rev range in the lower gears. Overtaking power was good, You could feel confident that you had the power there to pass lorries quickly and safely.
The Cars looks are very good, I actually like the exterior alot, It has a nice sporty look to it, Certainly looks nicer then alot of cars in its class, Also the i30 doesn't look cheap either.
If you're looking for a good, Family hatchback, With good fuel figures, With a well built refined diesel engine, Then the i30 is a serious contender, You will not be disappointed.
Well done Hyundai, The i30 really is a brilliant car !
My car was the 2010 Hyundai i30 Comfort 1.6 CRDi 5 door hatchback in Grey.

Ok So My Car Is The I30 1.6crdi Automatic In Comfo
Ok so my car is the i30 1.6CRDI Automatic in comfort trim. The car was delivered 2 days ago and on first inspection i was very impressed. I had already driven one on the test drive so knew what to expect but the interior of the one i was in was of an older comfort and the interior of that was badly worn through abuse,
The new facelift of the car gives it a much sportier look, more aggressive yet in my opinion still appears refined, Alot of people claim the looks are stolen from a BMW 1 Series but the new 2011 model changes that alot, it now feels more like it has its own shape and looks.
The car was immaculate inside, not a single speck of dust in sight, which is to be expected of a 2011 car, The interior is built to a high standard, everything fits right and nothing feels loose or out of place. It takes a little while to get through the hand book so you know where where everything is but its worth the read as it points out things you may otherwise not have found. The leather steering wheel and gear nob are also of high standard.
The car starts first time every time which again is something you would expect of a brand new car. BUT not only does it start first time but it just feels nice and smooth and effortless. The starter motor doesnt seem to strain at all and the car bursts into life with excitement.
The auto gear box is probably one of the best features on this car. Its smooth, you hardly feel the changes if at all and it just works. If you want to drive it hard it picks up on that and changes gears later and if not its fairly economical also. The manual claims about 50mpg but so far iv averaged 58mpg around the doors, more than it states in the manual by far. Nothing to grumble about.
The engine is great, its quiet and refined and low revs and really goes when you want it to. It has plenty of punch and can easily make light work of around the doors trips and even motorway journeys, Combined with the incredibly comfortable interior and smooth gearbox its a pleasure to drive. The sound system isnt half bad either ! I like to listen to stuff clearly and with plenty of body. The system deliveres just that and the bass is quite surprising. Playing with the equaliser can easily get the sound just to your liking.
I tested a few other cars before purchase, Mini One, Focus, Astra and a Golf and all of them (bar the mini) had likable points, The focus feels really comfortable in corners. The astra is a stunning car to look at (VXR kit) But for price the i30 just offered a hell of alot more equipment and i was hooked on its looks.
I feel i made the right choice and im very happy with the car, But as a new owner i feel the review may be slightly biased so i promise to update this with any small gripes and major gripes i find.
