Nissan Primera Stretched Timing Chain

1.8 SE 5dr 2000 Owned it since it was a 1 year old. Driven mostly on motorways for daily commute . Never thrashed and Dealer serviced most of its life. Well specified, very large boot space for luggage when you have to pick up family from the airport. Positive drive/steering if you put decent tyres on it.

Yet at 80,000 miles it is basically ready for scrapping. Timing chain stretched , cam sensor failed, air bag warning lights continually coming on, air-conditioning failed , cv joints and abs problems. The list goes on I won’t bore you. I used to different Nissan Main dealers for servicing, a complete waste of money. I would now always go to a good independent garage.

By comparison my Ford Sierra 1.8 LX done 157000 before it died and still managed to drive its final journey to the scrap yard.

Overall happy with the car at the price range. I find that town work bumpy and solid, slow to react at low speeds to accelerator. Takes its time to get up to full speed often feels like Im driving an automatic. Does not like Towing my Caravan when gathering speed struggles till at 45...50MPH. Then fine.

The Nissan Primera 1.8 Se Good Solid Practical Car

The Nissan Primera 1.8 SE good solid practical car with enough room and a decent ride. If you want a car that does the job, then this is ideal. Not as good to look at as my last car (Nissan 100NX), but generally I have found Nissan to make good cars.

I've had this car for a year now. The equipment supplied with this model is great for the price. The climate control works well on hot and cold days.

The car's back right interior door handle broke. This meant the back right door could only be opened from the outside. The interior door handles feel quite flimsy - letting down the car's robust feel. I took the car into the Nissan garage to be fixed. It was quite expensive for such a small job.

The ride quality in the car is terrible. Every bump in the road can be felt throughout the cabin. Making it uncomfortable. Not only that the seats are like sitting on concrete and the material used looks and feels very cheap.

Bristows

I am looking to get the Nissan Primera 1.8 SE 2006 model. I would like to know if the engine has the timing belt or the chain?

Many thanks
