Over All A Good Car But Like Any Cars They Do Have
over all a good car but like any cars they do have problems i do a lot of miles and i get good mpg i return 38mpg the car has done 157,000 miles and still sounds as good as it did new . I love the car the interior is good and has pleanty of room and the body styling still looks modern now i no its not the fastest car on the road but you dont buy a car of this type to become a rally driver . How ever the car does handel extreamly well in the wet or in the dry . The car does sufer from a bad ecu i.e a managment light comes on the dash but once you get it pluged in it shows no fault renault say there is an ssue with the ecu's on the early laguna 2's . However in saying this it does not afect the running of the car . Over all a good buy i would recomend them to any one . if your looking for a car that is cheeap to buy and will sill turn heads then this is a must have that will out looks mondeo's and vectra's

This Car Looks Really Good For A Car Of Its Class
This car looks really good for a car of its class and type. I was drawn by the sleek body and it test drove really well.
Unfortunately, it guzzled fuel a lot worse than I could have ever imagined exactly at the same time as petrol prices started going through the roof. I never got more than 28mpg on any run and I expected better from a 1.8 litre engine.
The worst part was the reliability though. The spark plugs used to go regularly and the camshaft went really quickly. This is all in one year bu the way. The lining in the boot also went, meaning it was a job to shut the boot properly.
Just don't buy one.

I Have To Say That I Just Love The Overall Concept
I have to say that I just love the overall concept. The general appearance of the Renault Laguna, due to excellent styling is very impressive. The seating is very comfortable with plenty of adjustment. Climate control is good. Running/engine noise is low - in fact it's hard to hear the engine at rest when listening to the 60 watt CD player at just moderate listening levels. The 'toys' are OK if they don't cause trouble - none so far according to the full service history I've got. The 18,000 mile service interval should be ignored in favour of say 12K/annually. Plenty of boot space too. The test for reliability will become evident over time though. If it's as good as its looks then I'm a happy bunny!! I'll keep you posted over the months to come. In 6 years the Cav. only needed a water pump in addition to the usual 'consumables'. Beat that Renault!! I hope so.
Well we went to Paris in the Laguna Dynamique. Excellent performance - 34.8 mpg over 1500 miles doing a steady 90mph on the EU motorways. Heater not good though. An outer cable behind the dash came away from the retaining clip preventing a decent 'demist'. Then last Sunday the driver's electric window failed. Took it back to the vendor's place. All fixed - no charge at all, even for new parts. If you want that sort of service go to a small local place who you have personally known a long time & with whom you have done business over many years. All modern cars are too complicated to expect nothing to go wrong at some time. My 1st car was a 1938 'Morris 8' 2 door convertible which never let me down. Just smile & enjoy keeping away from main dealerships!
Had it a month now - Gravell's put the little things right under the 3 year warranty - still runs beatifully - love it! Going to Paris in it soon - the 'acid' test for reliability - as its 'going home' it will probably behave itself!

Have Had A '96 Laguna 1.8 For The Last 2 Years And
Have had a '96 Laguna 1.8 for the last 2 years and it has been very reliable. Little things do irritate though - we are sick of freezing to death because the heater is so pathetic. Also there are leaks around doors and windows, so the carwash is always good for a laugh! Trying to overtake something on the motorway takes a fair while - it just DIES! Have just test-driven one of the new ones - looks sporty and very comfy but seems to have the same engine problem - just not nippy enough to get you out of a tight spot in an emergency.
