Good Solid Motor
Very Safe.
Only bad point is going up hill - but that has to do with the gearing ratios which are more suited for normal driving.
Highly recommended.

I Bought The Toyota Avensis After A Skoda Octavia
I bought the Toyota Avensis after a Skoda Octavia 2.0 TDI 140 Elegance. Big mistake. The Skoda is a better car in every respect. 10 bhp less but better acceleration through the gears. How? At least 10 mpg better fuel consumption in all conditions. Better handling. Better switches. Cruise control that allows you to resume even though you have dropped below 30mph for a few moments. Reverse parking sensors that reduce the radio volume so you can actually hear them. The list is endless. If you are thinking about an Avensis diesel try the Skoda Octavia tdi140. Superior in every way and cheaper with it. The Toyota was fine for a test drive but annoying to live with.
