2005 Mg Tf 135
One of the last MG TF's made in the UK before production stopped. This car has been 100% reliable and provided many moments of leisurely fun and even some excitement. I'm also a motorcyclist so finding a car that puts a grin on my face is a bonus. So far I'm getting really good fuel consumption with mixed motoring and have used no oil or water - the timing belt's just been done as a precaution. Bad points? Well, it's a two seater with a small-ish boot, that said I will be off to on holiday in it given a half decent summer. Tires are down to the original equipment manufacturer when replacements are needed and you want good quality. In summary, I would rate this car as a blast - sounds great with over 2k on the tacho and you get headlights flashing you whenever another TF sees you.Great

Had It A Week And Had To Spend £400 On New H
Had it a week and had to spend £400 on new hubs, brakes and thermostat housing. Looks good on the drive when its not in the gargae but noisy when driving, thirsty and uncomfortable to sit in on journeys of more than 30 minutes.
Perhaps I'm not being totally fair as sold a Freelander to buy this and have been used to a comfortable drive and taking for granted that you will reach your given destination.
In saying this hubby loves it and will tell you its fun to drive ( I couldnt agree less)
Bought the wrong one then! Hardly the car's fault.

The Only People Who Like Mg Tf's Are Mehanics, The
The only people who like MG TF's are mehanics, they'd never own one but rub their hands together as they see you being towed onto theire forcourt!
Reliablity: say a prayer every morning before you turn the key and maybe half way through your journey just to be on the safe side, and don't forget to thank the lord IF you arrive at your dstination. I was warned about the head gasket so wasn't suprised when that blew, but then then the exhaust, brakes, electrics... on and on....
The only reason I bought this car was because I was told that once you replace the head gasket with the MLS version it's 100% perfect. Well that was 100% a lie because the rest of the car will also need attention in time.
The handling is dangerous, even at normal speeds braking into round abouts you can feel the back end wanting to slip away from you. The cars eat fuel, water poors from the speakers if left out in the rain. MG/Rover enthusiasts will claim that they are perfect cars "you only need to repair this, repair that, keep and eye on this.. ect" I'd rather just have a car I get in and drive.
MG TF gone! Over £1000 spent, £650 lost, looked fantastic on my drive (hence the 1 star), just a shame it never left the drive!

The 2005 Car Illustrated Is Mine. With The Improve
The 2005 car illustrated is mine. With the improved head gasket, low water level warning and glass rear window it answers several complaints above. The car has been totally reliable over 42K with only a worry over the fragile trim. Spend the 50p on the sunvisor flaps and all would be well.

Although I Have Scored This Car (mg Tf 135 2002) L
Although I have scored this car (MG TF 135 2002) low above, I would definitely recommend it to anyone, I would however caveat that there are a number of things you should be aware of:
1)Head gasket WILL blow at some point, mine went at 35k miles and I was lucky, make sure you keep a regular check on your oil & water.
2)The rear plastic window will get scratched and go milky after the years, making visibility poor, keep the window unzipped when you do have the roof down.
3)Any engine problems will cost you lots of money due to the fact that labour costs will be high as the engine will need to be craned out of the back everytime.
4) The clock in mine has always been fast.
4) MG badges on the front were replaced until the warranty became void (when MG went bust)as the veneer on the front peeled off, they now look dull and messy but Im stuck with it.
5) Stickers over the dials have air bubbles in them.
Other than that I love my car and the novelty never wears off, even though so far I have spent in excess of £2k fixing it, its probably not worth £4k now sadly.
So my advice would be, get an MG if you have a mechanic as a boyfriend/husband/close friend.
Happy motoring.
Mine at least got to 115,00km before it blew, but still totally unacceptable for a modern car. Disgraceful how badly they can be designed and built. Great to look at and drive but a real melon in fact!!!!!
I found this review very helpful because...I too have an MGTF which I love but after being towed home by the AA yesterday I am swiftly falling out of love with it! It looks like my head gasket has gone for the second time! Despite me constantly checking my oil and water and regular servicing (02 plate).they certainly are an expensive care to maintain with thier inherent problems, however, I would have another one!

I Was Attracted To The Mg Tf 135 Sprint After Test
I was attracted to the MG TF 135 Sprint after test driving what I consider to be its oppositions (MX5 & Z3). The price was similar to the particular cars I was looking at. The TF took pole position in all aspects, and I forked over my hard earned cash for a year old car that had done less than 6000 miles.
With my work I drive all over Scotland to very remote coastal places, in good weather and very bad weather, and I have had no problems with the car what-so-ever. The only money I've spent, other than the scheduled service's, was for vanity purposes i.e re-spray of the front bumper, which suffered from stone chips due to driving on the dirt track roads, and a new set of tyres - TOYO proxes T1-R, which is another recommendation I would make.
Having owned my car for 2 years I was going to sell it, but I just love it too much.
In my opinion this is the best, most affordable sports car you can buy.

Mg Tf - I Bought A New '05 Tf 135 In April, Exactl
MG TF - I bought a new '05 TF 135 in April, exactly one week before MGR went bust. I actually consider myself lucky that I got one of the last TFs made, as this has been my dream car for ages. The new '05 model year has a hugely improved suspension with a glass rear window and lots of extras as standard. It looks beautiful, and with the Grenadine and Alacantara interior it looks as stylish on the inside as it does on the outside. The optional (and good-value) chrome pack also complements the car's classy appearance. Handling seems a little less sharp than the 02MY but is still very balanced with just a touch of oversteer at speeds. The new standard-fit Continental tyres and revised spring rates mean that the car handles much more safely in the wet than previous TFs or Fs ever did. Fuel economy is averaging out at 35MPG on a mixture of urban, motorway and back roads, which is decent considering I drive this car fairly hard. It's a pity that standard safety features are thin-on-the-ground but the volumetric r/c alarm is good, and the deadlocks work well. Some of the switchgear is very dated; I particularly dislike the electric windows' switches. The new standard-fit Seemen's CD tuner is awful, however the standard 6 speakers are good enough for a much more high-quality unit. Rattles are practically non-existent, although my clutch judders a bit when cold. The panel gaps are generally even and the car feels better built than previous MGRs I've driven, although the driver's electric window needed adjustment when I took delivery of the car. And then there's the engine - that sweet, gutsy 1.8 K-series which loves to be revved and sounds great, especially as it surges at 3,500 RPM towards the 6,900 RPM red-line. Overall, I'm delighted with my new TF. I just wish the company didn't go bust along with my 3-year warranty!

Ive Had My Mg Tf For 2 Months And I Love It. Howev
Ive had my MG TF for 2 months and I love it. However as with all MG's there seems to be the general consensus on the build quality. As Clarkson put it"if they had just spent that extra 50p"..I think you get the idea.
But saying that it does exactly what I wanted in a car and you do get the looks from people as thought you were driving a Lambo or a Porsche.
Wouldnt change it except for another.
