A Monster Of A Car I Bought New And Kept For 15 Ye

A monster of a car I bought new and kept for 15 years. A modified V8 rover engine in a fibreglass body with rolling chasis weighing in at just over 1000kg - mine had 240 bhp - the 5L had 320 bhp and some people fitted turbos as well. Easily sub 5s 0-60 especially using 2nd gear from start off all the way to 70 mph, top end for mine about 145 mph which I did do (Airfield of course not on road). Open top with leather seats, tremendous grip and faultless handling providing you are careful with the right foot. No ABS or traction control to get in the way. I have never expecienced the sure footedness of this car in any other except perhaps the Lotus Esprit Turbo which I think ultimately has better grip in courners (more than 1g lateral, again at Lotus airfield. I have driven 911, Ferrari, Aston and all the usual crowd, but this TVR was incredible value for money and could hold its own with any of the above in normal road conditions. Ultimately of course it does not have the top end to compete with 500+bhp - but who really want to be doing 130+ mph on the road?
