I Loved It

I had my first one for 3 years. And what went wrong in the first year water pump. Head gasket. Gear box. Engine mounting. Wheel bairing. Exhuast flexi.clutch. but u know what i miss that bloody thing it was a nice car to drive after all that work i had done on it it never let me down handles good in dry not so in wet.. under stears a little good fuel eco and loves country roads any one who tells you it will go faster than 115 is lying i pushed that thing and it wont do it . I crashed that so i got anouther it lasted a year b4 i noticed the same problems as the last one clutch slippin oil in water gunk on oil cap oh and the cv boots both sides were gone so i chooped it in for a fiesta st and iwould gladdly take my mg back if it had a bigger engine and it did not have the same problems.

So if u gunna buy one i recomend them good first car parts are very cheep works easy to do just make sure its had head gasket done cos its about 450 to do at a garage and trust me wen i say it will go they all go dont think by changin the oil regular and the filter and drivin it like a granny it wont do it.ItWill.they are rovers after all so expect problems.

I have owned and loved my Silver, MG zr (17" Alloy's) for 10 years (04 reg) it goes really well, holds the road brilliantly, I have only done 46,000, and the only things that I have had to replace were - Battery, Water Pump, Exhaust, Alternator plus, I had a new uprated head gasket fitted (but it did not need it) only just in case. mileage around 42 mpg. I have also had a performance air filter fitted. I have heard so much rubbish spoken by stupid people, regarding MG zr's, I would not change my car for any other car - I love it. By the way, I have had about 25 cars in my life, so I do know a "little" about cars.

Mg Zr ..... Pain In The Ass, But I Love Her !

I've had my ZR for 4 months now and since owning it I haven't driven it a day when it hasn't been broken.... seriously. When I bought it it was F@£&)d , I've replaced HG , had the pistons out for some new seals, new temp sensor , MAP sensor, timing changed, new ht leads, spark plugs , had new oil twice , new coolant twice, new oil filter twice and have had redex through the engine. Basically is cuts out when cold but when warm it's perfectly fine, three separate mechanics don't know what the hell is wrong with it. All these problems make it possibly THE most unreliable 1.4 I know of, but once my car is warm I absolutely love her !!!

The ZR is amazing for a 1.4 and as many people have said it is the fastest 1.4 that you can buy for a cheap price tag and relatively good insurance as it is my scond car with 1 years no claims. Round the corners it is an absolute peach and it will destroy any chavy boy racer is their 106's and their saxos easily. If you wanted to get one I would just say that be ready to spend a lot of time money and effort fixing it when it enevitably goes wrong. As its not just the engine thats poor it's also the build quality , inside it feels as if MG had gone to morrisons bought some superglue then gone and got some plastic strips from b&q and fixed them together. But at least due to this the car is very light which adds to the performance.

In summary; get one if you don't mind an unrealiable car and have a few quid in the bank beacuase it's one hell of a car when it's working fine :D ,

Deary Me..

bought my mg zr 2 and a half years ago and what a.mistake.

ive had 2 fuel pumps. exhaust fixed in three places.

new head gasket, twin cambelt, water pump.

the passenger doors deadlock kicked in.and couldnt open it. needed to be smashed

open from the inside. patch ip job coz now the door.can only be unlocked from the inside, but enough

to pass the mot.

also wire got frayed in the boot which broke the fob that needed resyncing.

the driver seat comes loose. often replace headlights.

there is probably more but its too much to remember.

i wish id researched the mg before i bought it.

what a crappy piece of tin!

u bought a crap car mines is fine (9 years later) and its an 03 plate (2 door). Its unfortunate you got a badly abused car to begin with. Dont blame MG, blame the previous owner/s.

What A Great Car, Owned Mine For A While Now, Not

What a great car, owned mine for a while now, not a single problem, hasnt missed a beat. I'v heard all about the head gaskets, no such problem. Although when i first bought it i did replace it with a performance one, and its done me good, more peace of mind than anything else. I regularly service it, fresh oil and filter every 3 months just to keep it all fresh.

To drive though, what a joy, brilliant handeling and very quick off the lights, good to modify to, the stainless steel exhaust on mine gives such a lovely sound, its quite a head turner to if you do modify it in a reasonable way, i would avoid the big bore though, way too noisy for a small car.

I never want to let mine go, puts a smile on my face every time i drive it.

I Have Had My Mg Since September 2008, I Bought It

I have had my mg since september 2008, i bought it when i was lerning to drive and i have to say, the more i drove it the more i fell in love with it. i passed my test using my car because i enjoyed driving it more than my instructors honda civic ( dont ask why) lol. now i use it as a daily driver and even though its done 57k it drives like new, no major faults to report but my one issue with it is that i have a subwoofer and sometimes the trim rattles about due to the vibrations but other than that it is a stunner. i love thet way it looks from every angle and the deep metalic blue really sets it off. the performance and handling is extremly good, for a 1.4 it is very nippy and when driven hard you get rewarded, the handling compliments the power, it stays flat in the bends and you can really push it to the limits. i love it and i can hapily say i would not want anything else for a first car.

I Love My Mg Zr 105! Ive Had It 2 Months Now

I love my MG ZR 105!

Ive had it 2 months now and it is my first car. I think that it looks brilliant and although it is based on the old rover 25, i think that MG have done a smashing job at beefing up the old girl into a sports car.

I mean god knows how they managed it with a socket set and a gift voucher from halfords, but MG made one hell of a hot hatch!

Performence wise i think that its 0 - 60 time is respectable, as you can leave a lot of boy racers in tuned up saxos for dust at the lights, which always puts a smile on my face :)

It also loves corners, as you certainly find that out when you thrash it around a bend!

The only problem with this car though, is that it is very unreliable!

After 5 weeks of owning it; 3k miles, its headgasket blew.

Its needed a new timing belt, the doorhandles fall off inside, the front right hand indicator light fell out, the front right hand headlight bulb has gone twice and now i need a new alternator because it doesnt charge the battery properly...

So on the whole, an MG ZR is the car to go for if you want a sporty car that looks nice and is about the drive, not the reliability or the comfort, because there are better cars to go for. This car always puts a smile on my face when i put my foot down, and if you are after a drivers car, then this is the car for you!

Anyone i have encountered and mentioned I have an MGZR, immediately shakes their head n says"ooooh, head gaskets a problem". However ,although my HG did go in my last one- i know many people who have one / who've had one n never had a problem,. These people, i believe are better than I was at keeping up to oil / water checks and frequently change the oil filter. Apparently, this makes the MGZR a happy n reliable car :) unfortunately, my old one was written off by a racer overtaking around a corner, but I have a 5dr now and I would buy another if the one I have now goes> Strong, reliable car. :)
