Mgzr Head Gasket Scare Tactics

I have owned a MGZR 160 now for 18months, i paid 2k for it in May 2011 with 50k,fsh,12mths mot and 1 owner. Its not covered 66900 and not a single sign on head gasket failure. Its just scare tactics from owners whom didnt look after their cars and then moan when the gasket failed. Service the car with coolant and oil every 8k or so, check now n again for leaks and look after the car, after all it costs alot of money so you would look after it wouldnt you?. Something always makes the gasket blow anyway, they dont just blow for the sake of it. A faulty fan, thermostat, water pump, or blocked prt will cause the gasket to blow, but if you stay on top of these theres no reason whatsoever why you should have any problems at all. The public have done a good job on scare tactics for the K series engine and cars have suffered in value because of this. Id say buy a 160 anyday, id definatly buy another tomorrow!. Im also confident that when the cars covered 100k il still be here writing another review to say that the car is still on original gasket. I dont speak the truth? well ask any mechanic whos knows what their talking about.

I Read Many Reviews Complaining Of Rattling And Bu

I read many reviews complaining of rattling and build quality. well lets put this to bed right now! my MG ZR 1.8i 160 in trophy yellow is simply one of the best cars Rover has ever produced! Yeah there are rattles coming from the back but the performance you get far outweighs this. I was going to purchase a Vauxhall VX 220 turbo, but was disgusted with what you were getting for the money, not even a carpet!!! overall??? a great car, I get over 30 to the gallon a top speed in excess of 130mph (not tested officer!!) and yeah it's entitled to the odd rattle and if you don't like that......go buy a Bentley!

I Have Owned My Mg Zr Sports Car For 1 Year Now. I

I have owned my MG ZR sports car for 1 year now. I bought it brand new and only have 6000 miles on it. The only problem I have with my car is that it is very thirsty. However I drive the car I only seem to average around 25mpg. I think this is quite heavy for a 1.4 engine. I have had it back to the dealer several times and they have downloaded a new engine management system, but it still seems to be the same. Also the engine needs to be pushed hard to get any sort of real performance from it. If you want a quick MGZR then buy the 160 bhp version. Apart from that it is a great car.

Thanks for the tip. i will pass it on to the guy who now owns the car. That was the only reason for selling it.

Dynamo

I have a 1.4 MG ZR like yourself and its nowhere near as thirsty as yours. If you tend to go for pretty high revs before you change gear then your fuel consumption will be higher, but if thats not what your doing, I suggest you have your car looked at because you should be averaging about 40mpg.

My First Mg Zr 160 Is A Nice Little Car, The Handl

My first MG ZR 160 is a nice little car, the handling is sharp and responsive, some people may find the ride a little hard but thats the expense you pay to get the cornering ability with very lttle body roll, the engine is a little noisy (and apparently it gets a bit noisier if you start to uprate the power) the speakers could do with uprating if you like to play hard music fairly loud, I dumped the standard head unit straight away and installed a pioneer unit, the interior I like very much but you don't get the build quality of other manufacturers, the drivers door panel kept coming loose and the trim on the bottom corner of the front seats kept coming loose but other that that I have no complaints at all about the inside. I was going to start uprating the car, I already fitted a set of alloy wheels (mania brooklyn 7 x 17 )which made the car look more aggresive (take note other zr users these alloys look the mutts nuts... the next thing that I was going to do was to lower and uprate the suspension but alas after a car came at me on its roof and smashed up my ZR I have to wait to sort out the insurance and yes I will be getting another ZR 160.

I Just Bought A Brand New Mg-zr 160 Sports Car, An

I just bought a brand new MG-ZR 160 Sports Car, and to be frank, its the best thing ive ever done. Before i had a nice BMW 325i Coupe. Most people may see this as a bit of a come down, but im telling you, the mg is much more fun.I would recommend this car to anyone considering a sporty hatchback. How Rover have come on over the last couple of years.

i got a 2003 with 29,000 miles for 5.5k imaculate condition with full service history and that price included warranty with the garage!!! car makes you smile everytime you give it a thrashing every now and again!!

easy

Thanks for that, confirmed my thoughts; I will stick with my 200vi. (same car, older + more spec) Give MG Rover time to sort it before I spend my £,000's
