Over The Years I Have Owned 5 Peugeot 205 Gti's St

Over the years I have owned 5 peugeot 205 GTI's starting off with the 1.6 which was an eye opener to its performance and potential.

The build quality isn't bad considering its little more than a baked bean can, and the repairs are simple to fix / replace.

But the performance is simply fantastic on the standard 1.6/1.9 variants it has a power delivery similar to a 2 stroke motorcycle engine.

I now own a bit of a street sleeper, which I have tastefully modified (I can hear all you pureists tutting!) But by wedging a Citroen XM 2.0L turbo lump in there, I now have a proper 205 GTi, the handling is sublime and the power delivery is devastating, to the extent that nothing comes close to its acceleration and B-road blasts just arent the same anymore!

It Has Been A Pleasure To Own And Drive A 205 Gti

It has been a pleasure to own and drive a 205 GTI 1.9 1994 for nearly two years now. The car was bought in Feb 2009 and have had three previous owners and a nearly complete service history.

Apart from regular maintenance I've only had one major problem - a blown head gasket. This was fixed and at the same time I had a race cam fitted, the head ported / polished and a K&N air filter fitted. The engine is transformed - it revs much quicker, spins much more freely and pulls way stronger above 4000 rpms all the way to the red line. It is genuinely quick now.

It is a delight to drive on a daily basis; fantastic steering, decent ride, superb feel and handling, and above all the basic pleasure of feeling intimately connected to the car and feeling in control of every move it makes. I will keep it as long as it remains as reliable as it has been so far. Only annoyance is the excessive fuel consumption at about 8 km's pr. litre in city traffic which is outrageously poor. But I love the little gem - both the way it drives and the way it looks :-)

I've Been Driving For Seven Years Now, And For 6 O

I've been driving for seven years now, and for 6 of them years ive had a 205 gti's.

My first was a 1.6 gti which i loved for 3 years was lovely to drive and had sensible power for a novice driver.

Then i brought a 1.9 gti, still to this day that was the best car i've driven. It had the handling, power and Reliability, never realy had problems with it! Loved it!

Now i have a rebuilt turbo technics 205, not the best for Practicality or reliability but would not change it! I have driven a mk2 golf and a clio williams but still would have a 205 over them any day! so my vote goes to the Peugeot

I Bought My Peugeot 205 Gti 1.9 About A Month Ago

I bought my Peugeot 205 GTi 1.9 about a month ago for £1600 with 170,000 on the clock but had been fitted with a recon engine in 2001 and that had only done 24,000 in the last 7 years! It has the up rated ECU on it so problems with the idling isn ' t a problem. I love the car and its power is amazing for the age of the car. In the past few weeks I have looked over mine ready for its MOT and found, both boots of the anti-roll bar links at the front ripped. One track rod end boot ripped, (then needed tracking)! And the BIG one the rear beam needed doing! £375 for beam refurb but also needed both rear calipers, new pads new brake flexi hoses, brake pipes. Final bill of £670. The car drives like new now but a lot of money to get put right! It was all done by a fantastic garage called RETRO REVIVAL in Nuneaton. they know 205 gti's inside out and do not rip you off at all. Would deffo recommend them if you need one sorting and want it right, good luck finding a good one. Have a good look! Don't just buy the first one you see. Hope this review helps you.
