Phenomenal

I have owned this beauty for only 2months but I can tell it's a classic in the making, over the years iv had corsa vxr, astra vxr, 2 mk5 gti's, st170, st225 n now this. I can safely say this is the best of the lot.

Looks wise it's soo classy and power wise it's got 30 extra muscular stallions then the standard gti's. However there is unlimited scope for remapping n iv got mine done to 270bhp 290 lb/ft torque and it's made a big difference. It's one car il be looking to keep for at least 3yrs, normally I get bored within the first six months and end up selling and taking a hit after one year. This one is soo good that I look for reasons to drive. The engine sounds awesome, jus the roar of the engine makes it worth the price. Handling is spot on however if u remap it there is wheelspin which you'll get used to in no time. In terms of reliability il advice u if u r going for this type of cars be prepared to throw money at it coz if any parts goes then you'll b in for it. Recently my brake servo went n I had to pay 295pounds frm TPS and another 130pounds labour.

All in all its great piece of German engineering.

Love it to bits!!!

Just Out Of Interest, How Do These Cars Perform Af

Just out of interest, how do these cars perform after a remap up to 300ponies, does it tend to ruin the car's handling? Will it munch up front tires every month, even driving normally? Will it use more fuel? My old diesel which I had mapped was actually better on fuel after the map when driven steady, cruise on the motorway at 70mph doing average of 50mpg easily. The Edition seems to be averaging around the 29mpg mark unmapped with steady driving, I was expecting to get about 38ish mpg out of it.

Also would it be harsh on the engine and components, there must be a hell of a lot more strain on all of them with the extra 70bhp increase, its a pretty big step up and I'm wanting to keep the car for quite a few more years without any major problems like clutch/drive shafts etc, but would love to squeese full performance out of it!

Edition30

I'm an Edition 30 owner for 5 years now.. not one little squeak of any troubles. The results you get from the exact same Revo Remaps when compared to the stock 197 (200 Bhp) GTi are very impressive.I had a 320 remap, with Red Stuff Pads,& Turbo Groove fully ventilated Discs (x4),on Michelin Pilot 3 Sports tyres. Now,I'm running her at 250 Bhp (tested on a rolling road),& have just had a dual Air Intake fitted, giving an extra 12 Bhp.. so now 260 Bhp at the wheels... & this drives loads better than the 325 Bhp.. it's faster; simple as. In terms of stressing the engine, the E30 is simply a detuned Audi S3 unit, but with a slightly smaller Inter Cooler. So the engine can take 300Bhp+ easily. I honestly could not recommended a better improvement to an already superb GTi other than getting your brakes upgraded & a Dual Air Intake Air Filter. You're be lucky to get 10,000 miles from a brand new set of tyres.. my Michelin's were £1000,but I shopped around,& got them for £640.. still a lot to spend in less than 10,000 miles,& if you're pressing on,then you're looking at 15 mpg ,absolute Max .. if you're using all 300 Bhp. As said my 260Bhp drives so much better than my 325 Bhp, no doubts there at all.. I hope this helps....

Edition30

I've owned my Edition 30 for 4 years now,no sorry 5,and have clocked up only 31,000 miles. I am now running @ 250 Bhp,Turbo Groove ventilated Discs & Red Stuff Pads, and VAG's Dual intake systems.. as this works a lot better than KN Filters, giving it another 12 Bhp.. measured on a rolling road 2 weeks ago, I'm 265 Bhp at the wheels (Michelin Pilot 3 Sports). I did have a Revo Stage 2,and used my friend's Blue Fin.. but, importantly, the car drives better, faster than with 300Bhp+.. it's not all in the Bhp.. the Upgraded Braking components make a massive difference in your driving style. As for fuel any car with 230+ Bhp is not going top give you good fuel consumption.. pending upon how it's driven.. but over 300 Bhp,you're talking 15 mpg,and new tyres every 10,000,or less. Yes,I too get approximately 30mpg - 40 mpg (Max),if you're in 6th gear, and cruising. Do take my advice on upgrading the brakes,as these I found were starting to fade even @ 230 Bhp, and yes, it's faster now than ever - a completely different league GTi.. a R32's worst nightmare, lol :) The engine in the Edition 30 is a completely different unit, obviously there's the K0.4 Turbo - in a nutshell,it's a detuned Audi S3's engine, other than the inter-cooler,which is larger than the 200 Bhp GTi's,but smaller than the S3's

Upgraded From A Mk4 Gttdi, Even Though It's Using

Upgraded from a Mk4 GTTDI, even though it's using a hell of a lot more juice that the diesel, I'm not in the slightest little bit bothered, it revs twice as much, grips and pulls on every gear change (was expecting a lot of wheelspin), goes like a rocket, sounds awesome in high revs and turns lots of heads, often driving through town you catch the odd person pointing at it which gives great satisfaction of driving a ltd. edition! Just hoping I don't loose my licence in this awesome machine.

Planning myself a trip the the Nurburgring next summer, i personally think this will be the best car for the money that will more than likely stick to the track with ease, and drive right across from the UK in comfort.

Pretty sure from now on I will own golf GTI's till i die or VW go bust, best value for money and quality out there! Now go get that big loan, you will not be regretting it!!

Overall The Vw Golf Gti Is Great Value Especially

Overall the VW Golf GTi is great value especially when you upgrade with superchip to take it to 307hp, a really wolf in sheeps clothing. Doing a 100k's drop it into sport mode and floor it and you have supercar preformance in a golf.....she flys. Great sounds, good handling, when you consider a RS4 which I really like these are great value, if you compare with Focus ST in my mind its a ford and the golf just has that class you can't get in most cars.

So don't delay sell the house, sell the kids, just get one and have lots of fun. Cheers from Dave down under in NZ (only 30 brought into NZ 21 DSG and 9 manuals, got to be a car worth buying.

It Is Quite Simply Superb. I Cannot Fault Anything

It is quite simply superb. I cannot fault anything with it, my friends drool over it and my neighbour is sick with envy. What more can one want?

Even my wife is taken with it, though she knows nothing about cars and drives it at every opportunity in preference to her own Polo, which she loved beforehand and has now been largely passed over to our teenage daughter.

Her only reservation was that it was a disappointment when she realised that all the men gazing at the car when she drove it were not looking at her!

Jeremy Clarkson was quoted in the awards issue of Top Gear Magazine as saying:

'The simple fact of the matter then is that no matter how you cut it, the Golf is either brilliant or excellent in every single area. It's fast, it handles well, it's easy to park, easy to run, socially acceptable anywhere, comfortable and well made to boot,'I totally agree!

I had a 150HP Mk4 Diesel GTI for over 5 years beforehand, and thought I was a diesel convert. When test driving potential replacements for that one I decided to test drive the petrol GTI as well as the R32, more out of curiosity really. The R32, whilst a truly magnificent piece of engineering and grippy as hell with its permanent 4WD was a great car, but far less agile feeling than the standard GTI's and GT diesel. Then the diesel GT was a hugely sensible combination of practicality, economy and performance, and I had fully expected to end up with one. However, the MK5 petrol just tipped me over the brink, and I decided to go the whole hog and order the 30th edition model.

Did I make the right choice? Not from the point of view of fuel economy, but anything that puts a smile on my face when I get out of bed at 6am every morning, even when the weather is foul must be doing something very right indeed. I love it.

Oddly I thought the GTi was devoid of torque and felt slower than the 180 bhp 1.8 20vt engine in the old GTI Anniversary. I guess its a heavier car.
