The Volkswagen Golf Mk1 Gti Is The Best Of The Mk1

The Volkswagen Golf Mk1 GTI is the best of the Mk1's. It is very quick and nimble, and it feels like a true sports car. However, it suffers from the typical VW electrical issues.

The Mk1 Golf Is A Classic And An Absolute Pleasure

The MK1 golf is a classic and an absolute pleasure to own and drive! The kind of car you can stand and appreciate the genius of for hours and hours on end, and I have yet to meet an owner who the novelty of owning one hasn't worn off yet. These cars perform so well, are reliable, well built, so rarely rust, are light weight, nippy, easy to park and are just a piece of engineering history.

It is also very easy for someone with a little car mechanical know-how, to pick up a cheap rust free body for next to nothing and slash out a bit on a nice 1.8 vr6 or even R32 engine and transplant it into that lovely spacious engine bay.

There are so many ways to make the car more your style, add chrome, remove chrome, remove everything and race it, the list goes on and on.

Buy one if you don't already have a few, these cars deserve love and good care taken of them, and polish your rear badges and number plates, that's all the others will see.

I Have Had 3 Volkswagen Golf Mk1 Gti's And They Al

I have had 3 Volkswagen Golf Mk1 GTI's and they all have made me smile every time I have driven them, even if just to the local shop and back, as I say to people who ask why you have "that old thing" I simply say "If you have to ask the question you will never understand the answer!" The car oozes feel, feedback, and is just a very easy, friendly car to drive. I know it dosn't have all the airbag nonsense etc but if you need that the car you are driving just dosn't talk to you enough before you crash! The mk1 golf GTI is the most fun you can have in a car, and if you buy one you will instantly have mega cred and people asking you if you want to sell it. How many saxo vts/r owners can say that? Plus the value can only go up! if you don't dick around with the thing and leave it as VW made it.

Very Proud Owner Of Two Mk1 Golf Gti. One Schwartz

Very proud owner of two Mk1 Golf GTi. One Schwartz Black and the other Diamond Silver. The 112 bhp, light body, exquisite handling and GTi fuel injection system provides sheer, unadulterated power and a passion to just keep on driving.

The best part about driving a Mk1 Golf Gti is putting some of todays so called "BIG BOYS" to shame as they still cannot live up to the godfather of all hatches even by todays standards.

For those who like the Japanese car scene, I have no objection, but one thing, the next time you pull up to a set of lights and theres a Mk1 Golf next to you, LOOK DOWN IN SHAME AND DON'T TRY TO EMBARASS YOURSELF!

The Mk1 Golf WAS the hottest hatch, IS the hottest hatch and WILL ALWAYS BE the hottest hatch! Thats why its world renouned for being the sexiest bunny RABBIT!!!

For those who want to buy, go ahead, but only if you can treat i like a queen!

The Golf GTi is the most classical of all Hot Hatches.

It's not the hottest but it's the one that will be remembered along with the 205 GTi.

mk1madj

Good luck when you hit a bend too fast (for a poo-go) spin out and die like steve did!

mk1madj

I'd have to agree with all but the last line "treat it like a queen" ???? dunno about that, drive it like you stole it more like!!! (it'll hardly ever break and if it does it'll be some 20 year old part that costs sod all to replace!

or did you mean rag the bottom off it???

samm

It may be the classic but my 205 will beat it round a track, it is 0.7 secs faster to 60 in standard form and the handling is superb. With my 185bhp mi16 conversion 60 is coming up in just over 6 seconds dead............

Mk1 Golf Well What Can I Say, I Own One, Infact It

mk1 golf well what can i say, i own one, infact it is my first car and when i got it over a year and a half ago i thought old car hmmpp but when i discovered that my little 1.1 engine could muller saxo's , nova's etc of roughley the same engine i realised that i was driving the daddy and that the only thing that might turn as many heads is a tidy lanca delta integrally because of its rally pedigree. I'm hoping to stick an explosive mk2 1.8 gti engine in there soon and blow away the losers in anything else espesialy mk3's and mk4's , because lets face it all great cars get the old lady treatment and these two optimise this (fast but boring), there i said it, well some one had to.

U Cant Beat A Mk1 With A V6 Corrado Engine In! Fas

Mk1's rock!

The bloke is right, a vr6 in a mk-1 only works if you fill the trunk with stone.

the vr6 is to heavy, the car goes straight out at the first corner

g60 or 16v g60 is the best choice for a mk1

It's also more fun to drive and the sound is better.

G60 rulazzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

marknjulie.

The VR6 engine is a great engine, but in a Mk1 it ruins the whole balance of the car. I watched the peach coloured awesome VR6 MK1 at castle combe. It span so many times on the bends that it was just a wast of time. Best engines for a MK1 are either the G60 or the MK4 turbo unit. It depends on your needs and driving style.

I've Got A 1.3 Mk1 Golf Which I've Spent Most Of M

I've got a 1.3 mk1 golf which i've spent most of my time and money making it look like a gti, however the engine and electrics are now playing up forcing the car off the road. I am finding it hard to find the £450 to get it in ship shape order as my income is below £100 a week because i'm still in education. However I have found the lighter mk1 body makes the car very nimble and fast for a 1.3, which is helped in my opinion by the very sweet 4 speed box when around town and off the mark, I still get around an indicated 115mph, though very noisey. Since this is my first car im very happy to blow away the usally sh**e like novas and fiesters.
