The Bike With 4 Names And 4 Model Names

Hello to anyone who wants this bike? DONT BUY THIS BIKE! i have this bike and its all a big huge ploy to improve chineses exports to the uk and other countries... i will explain.. AJS stands for A. J. Stevens & Co. Ltd.. based in Wolverhampton, England. However you may notice it has REGAL stamped on it. this is a family based company thats out-side the UK.. i will explain.. in -

America its called the spyder under an outlet under johnny peg

Australia its called the Stormer or Hunter Spyder

England its called the Eos or Regal Raptor

Spain its called the Leonart Spyder.....

now johnny peg claims the design credit for the bike tho its made in china and arrives in a crate to be assembeled in what ever country its sent too... the engine is about the only good thing as its made at the CG125 factory by honda, tho in china but under Jap regulations. the rest is made in china by the chineses.. things you shold know... rear shocks hidden under the frame use a oil-less spring system and contract NOT compress.. so they pull apart! instead of squashing! after worn they loose dampering and will fail the MOT. important to know as theses shocks only fits this bike,.. AJS them selves dont supply parts, they only sell bikes. hence no parts on the website. if you ring them they wont be intrested and will give you the run around! also the chrome on this bike is put straight onto the alluminum and there is no base coat of copper to help the chrome stick to the metal and just flakes off!!.. if your lucky and have the black engine its better painted and i found better lasting. also the switch controllers are plastic!! not metal.. its a chromy plastic used and that will also flake off!! also the bike has only 1! fuse for the whole bike! the round type of fuses NOT a spade fuse. also brake pads are not easy to find, yes there are some about but, advised to take them out and match thoses to the ones your replacing with... yes the bike looks great and yes i thought i would buy one, but i wish i hadnt at all...anyone who says its a good bike has yet to get to the breaking down stage and MOTs or past its warrenty. (understand that under UK law all brand new motorcycles DO NOT recuire an MOT for the first 3 years and so DO NOT get tested before they hit the market and put on the road) i would advise to stick to trusty Jap bikes as the craftmanship is beyond contestation! as regards chineses bikes and secondly i cant just let a fellow rider waste his or her hard earnt cash on this bike.....hope this all helps and do check my advise aswell :

Raptor 125 ,rubish.

it has been off the road for 6 months now as the valve timing has gone out , cant get a workshop manual for this . and there are no timing marks on the valve cam. so just sitting there until i can get a running engine to replace the old one and then it will be out of the door a bit quickish . chinese bikes are rubbish . No copper under the chrome and no primer under the paint. (that's why they rust up in a few months. I am 75 and know my bikes . DON'T GET ONE.

should have gone for a second hand Jap.

You don't know anything about bikes. Everybody else knows the engine is a bolt for bolt copy of a standard Honda engine so the Honda manual works. I've got two of these engines in various bikes and they are very good NEW engines and not broken down old Jap rubbish from 20 years ago that have been to the moon and back. All parts are easily obtainable and very reasonably priced, which is not the case with most overhyped Japanese makes, Honda being particularly bad at overpricing components. All bike shops worth knowing would work on them as they are the same as any other bikes and 90% of all new bikes being sold these days are Chinese anyway so any shop that doesn't want to deal with them is a failure as a modern motorcycle shop. I've been a mechanic for over 50 years and I DO know bikes. In short these Chinese engines are better in every way than the Honda ones they are copied from.

I have had a Daytona for 2 years now. To begin with there were problems but i think that was down to how the dealer put it together. Regular maintenance means i have had no problems. Ride to work every day, ride out at weekends and 300 mile trips are no problem.

Got to concede the paintwork on the frame is poor. Going to strip it down and solve this over the winter.

heygiday

I have to agree with you. I bought an AJS 125 Daytona last year and it is rubbish .The front sprocket came off on the road . I had to have a new gear box fitted costing over £1000. There is problems with the chain . The suspension is hard and cant be adjusted. the cooling fan packed up .The bearings went in the back wheel within one year It broke down on the road and is now back in the garage for repair all this in just over a year and 4000 miles. This is what I call a rubbish bike. Most motorcycle garages wont touch them as they are more trouble than they are worth and I don't blame them.( Buy Cheap you buy twice ) Be warned.

1 Year And 4500 Miles Later

Purchased my Eos in April 2012 and was amazed by the quality of it. In the past year, I have done some modifications to the bike.

Gas flowed head, polished ports, put in a performance cdi unit, bigger jets (97.5's as opposed to the standard 85's) 15T front sprocket and a 33T on the rear. Replaced 530 chain for a higher spec branded name. Had profile adjusted on camshaft (I work in that industry). The bike now develops 28'4bhp at the wheel and will top 105mph (in a controlled environment)

as for any problems the bike has had, there have honestly been none.

I CANNOT FAULT THIS BIKE

So when people say Chinese made bikes are not good quality, take it from someone who has ridden bikes for the past 30 years. The Eos is a cheap but incredible machine. I'll not part with mine..................ever.

Can I ask where you got the jets from and the details on them please I ordered some and got the wrong ones

Ski-uk

Where did you get the mods from like the cdi unit, ive looked everywhere for one

basilsparents

From what I recall this model is made by Jianshe in China who make YBR125s for Yamaha now, whilst other AJS models are made in other factories by other companies. Jianshe are a pretty advanced company and well capable of churning out good bikes.

Andy_107

It is good to see someone else who is happy with their AJS. I have the Daytona and have done many miles on it. The bike had a few niggly problems when i first got it but I think that was down to the dealer who was sloppy when he put it together.

i am interested in the mods you have done. I regularly do a 320 mile round trip on this bike and on some of the long hills the bike struggles with speed. I have replaced the air filter and rejetted the carb but can't find a CDI unit. Each of the suppliers either do not reply to my messages or say that their units are not compatible. Can you please tell me what make and model your performance CDI unit is.

Heavy Fake Custom & Pointless.

There are afew good 125cc customs out there as this aint one of them, looks the part but dont let that fool you. Not built nowhere as good as yamaha suzuki honda & overpriced for what it is. If you buy new & dont run them in properly you will have probs with the engine. Gear linkage can break & leave you stranded & some wiring loom probs. Experianced bikers wont touch them.

Hi

They are now made in China, but the Name AJS is still owned by the same family and are sticklers for quality. I'm soon going to be buying my second bike from them, "The Bobber"

Early models did have Quality issues, New ones are all good though.

A few things to change as a matter of course for a more trouble free riding.

1, put in some iridium spark plugs

2, put on a higher spec chain, the original one stretches quite rapidly

3, remove catalytic converters (they knock out easy enough) They're not needed in UK and to be honest, drain a substantial amount of power out of the engine.

Seriously though, that is it. Customer service is second to none too. If you are a facebook user, find Owners club I started.

Hopefully we'll get to meet up

Ride safe

Hoping Baldy68 can advise...

I am about to get my first bike... aged 54... you seem to know your stuff after 31 years. I read terrible reviews and good ones of AJS bikes. When I was a kid they were revered as classics. Now they get dissed as relabelled chinese cheapies.. Would you have time to give an unbiased opinion on the bike as a whole on a wider basis? I think that would really help and be really welcome.

Cheers

Martin

I've ridden bikes for 31 years and now own an Eos. Done 4000 miles on it trouble free. Never fails to start. Gear linkage is fine.

Don't know what issues you have had really. I routinely service mine every 600 miles and it rewards me with reliability.

Ajs Eos 125 Stay Away !

I bought one of these new !

It broke down after being delivered for my CBT & was taken away for a week to be fixed ! Told it was wiring fault ?

This could possibly explain why the horn has never worked ?

Around 100 miles & the gear lever link came undone & snapped up on the moors miles from any where & I had to leave it there over night !

1200 miles the gearbox stuck in 4th gear & wont move either way !

So bike in now useless ! Just sitting there !

Stay Away !

Love It!!!!

I've had my AJS Daytona 125 for a little over a year now. At first it was a bit of a change as I was used to riding an 80's Vespa, but stone me did she open my eyes! The seating position and forward controls mean I can ride with my knees in the breeze very comfortably! I'm 6ft and 16 stone and she does 70+

Since I've had her I've modified the handlebars and mirrors, removed the backrest, changed the exhausts (loud as hell!!) I'm gonna put some apes on her before the summer too. Incredibly easy to ride, maintain and customise! Next stop will be the optional 350cc engine upgrade AJS offer!!

I LOVE IT!

Loving It

Got my Daytona Oct 2012 its a beauty did struggle a bit up hills however seeing as its brand new and i've still got to run it in not a problem. If you want fast get a race replica as the Daytona is a cruiser. Dont thrash the throttle if new, as with any new piece of machinery it will do more harm than good. Everyone loves it, a real head turner. wish it had an owners manual i cant find one anywhere and be careful not to void the warranty. Ride safe.

I Bought An Ajs Daytona 125 In March And I Am Stil

I bought an AJS Daytona 125 in march and I am still in love with it to this day. She happily hits 70 mph and is stupidly fuel efficient (havent worked out how many mpg yet!)

she has a lovely low seating position with the forward controls and handles great! I've yet to do a few mods to it ie Remove the auto cutoff switch in the kickstand, fabricate some open pipes, and remove the backrest, but other than that she is perfect for me. Definitely a head turner (and often mistaken for a bigger machine!)

i would happily buy another one of these bikes without question as this one has been more than what i could want in a bike.

BE WARNED: THE CHROME IS A PAIN TO KEEP CLEAN, BUT SHES WORTH EVERY SECOND OF FETTLING!! :) RIDE SAFE.

Carry On Cruising

Just got myself a cheap as chips eos. I'm its 4th keeper. Bought it for its unique custom style. First impression: Not bad, its in good condition, no major rusting or chrome peeling. Brakes are very good and steering is easy. Engine is a bit low on power but good enough for general road use, it has decent acceleration. I'm chuffed so far. I think it will turn out to be a good buy.
