Great Introduction To Biking

So I have owned a CBR 125R from brand new, I purchased her back in April 2015 and owned her until I was wrote off in September 16.

I was originally looking for a scooter at my local Honda dealership, I had a piaggio that broke down on me and kept constantly dying so I felt this was time to move on, I had 2 friends at the time who owned the older and skinnier models who raved about how great these bikes were, so I took a chance on it and put the deposit down.

a week passed and I was etching to get on the cbr, The pre inspection was done and my other half's father picked it up and brought it home. Now I had never ridden gears and I was nervous when I actually saw the bike, so anyway I got my gear on and mounted her, the seat is comfortable and not too hard unlike the yzf which feels like your sitting on a plank. when you insert the key the dash comes to life, the rpm meter maxs out then returns which is the system calibrating itself which also gives young riders the false hope of hitting 199mph which is quite funny.

so after the light display is completed you are left with your digital dash and lit up rpm counter, the only analogue part of this bike is the rpm counter which unlike most other sports 125's is actually displayed by a physical clock. the small lcd underneath the clock shows:

The time

Fuel gauge

Coolant temperature

Speedometer

Mileage

Upon pressing the electric start you don't realise it is turned on, the engine is smooth and it is one of the quietest 125's I have heard, nothing intimidating or stupidly loud the neibourghs will complain.

Pulling away there is plenty of power in the bottom and mid ranges the bike will reach these indicated speeds:

1st Gear: 22mph

2nd Gear: 31mph

3rd Gear: 45mph

4th Gear: 55mph

5th Gear: 69mph

6th Gear: 75mph (85mph if you rag the bottom off it)

when riding the transmission is smooth there's no pull it just glides up the speedometer however I have noticed top end there is no aggression,no pull...no nothing. there is no indication speed is increasing you just glide up the speedo which will not be to everyones taste.

The design is inspired from Honda's VFR Sports Tourer it looks very different to the rest until you see a KTM RC125 now that's different. you aren't right over the tank its comftorble semi upright and unlike the other sports bikes the bars are ontop of the yolk not under. the color choice is very boring red, black, tricolor or repsol and as everyone knows, if your 17 you've picked repsol.

its comfortable to ride, I did 16787 miles in just over a year on mine, I went to

Brighton

Bristol

Birmingham

Bournemouth

London

Stoke On Trent

and at least 150 miles each weekend and an extra 170 purely to get to work everyday. the seat got uncomftorble after roughly 100 straight miles and you feel it when you get off, motorway speeds are sketchy, having being on a cbt I never took it on there but on the a roads I can tell although it would handle the motorways constant speed fine I wouldn't like to be on it with it.

the winter riding was fine and the engine never missed a beat and always started first time even at -5 with the coolant I had in it from purchase, it was a strong reliable bike that I think for the price you cannot go wrong.

I changed the tyres to Pirelli sport demon which I think is better than the irc bridgestone stock tyres, they get super sticky and stay super warm.

I went through

2 sets of brake pads

3 oil changes

3 pairs of tyres

1 Battery

this is a capable but sometimes expensive beast but out of 10? I would rate it at a very strong 9

Fantastic Mile Muncher

I am an older rider 52 years young and bought this bike for my daily commute to and from work ,my wife wanted me to get a commuter like the cbf or ybr but i told her the tyres were too thin on these bikes sometimes you need to tell a white lie. What a great bike this is cheap on fuel, great fun to ride and looks fantastic easy to flick around and very stable.I have a 2015 model that i bought second hand with 4700 miles on it from cmc motorcycles newport in great condition. The bike is reliable great on fuel i do roughly 140 miles a week on around seven pounds worth of fuel.Performance is good for a 125 four stroke i have had 73 showing on the clock and i am 5 foot 11 and weigh around 13.5 stone .This is my fourth 125 in recent years and is by far the best, would i buy another one yes.

Honda Cbr125r 2012

Well where to start..ive owned a Repsol CBR125R for over 11 months.im 43 and decided to ride a motorbike for a cheap mode of transport.first thing i noticed was how more grown up it looked, what i mean by that is it looked the same size as a 500 cc bike, and is much bigger than the previous model.the bike itself is simply stunning to look at in the REPSOL colour scheme, and the tyres are a bigger size for good grip.the ride is smooth and handles superb, but in all honesty the YAMAHA YZF125R is maybe a better bike but is agrand more expensive,so i personally would go for the CBR.now dont take a blind bit of notice of these hyped up reviews saying the CBR can go 85 mph.it cant, ive gone flat out on a straight at 73 mph,and this is what it can do period.the cbr125r is a 13 bhp whereas the yzf125r is close to 15bhp.so the yamaha would probably tick 85+. The seat is comfy and doesnt ache your bottom which for an old boy like me is a plus hahahaha.the brakes although not brembo like on the YAMAHA do the job fine.as regards to fuel consumption i fill the bike up about £11 -£12 a week doing a 27 round mile trip to work on a 5 day working week,so the fuel consumption is great.ive had no mechanical issues and i would highly recommend the HONDA CBR125R 2012.im that impressed im eager to see if honda bring out any new 125s in 2015....hope my review is a help and safe riding..X ps i even passed my A1 license on her..lol

Amazing Handling, Good Speed And Cheap In Use.

The Honda Cbr 125cc is one of my favourite 125cc motorcycles. when i became sixteen years old and was going to get my first motorcycle i decided, this is the bike for me. i bought it used for 5000 km but it was like a new one. before i started driving the Cbr i had been driving a various set of bikes. both 2 stroke and 4 stroke bikes. the Honda Cbr125 is a 4 stroke bike, it drives a bit slower than the 2 stroked bike, so if you're only looking for a super fast bike, then this isn't the bike for you, the bike is fast, really fast, but the 2 stroke is just a little bit faster. it drives easily up to all speed limits and way beyond that with a max speed at 130 kilometers pr hour. The 4 stroke also gives it a bit slower acceleration but not much. but well, enough of the bad stuff. the Honda Cbr 125cc is if not the best bike i have ever driven when it comes to handling, when you are driving through a long curved turn in around 90 km/h the bike is so easy to handle, you can sit extremely comfortalbly for hours and actually drive long distanse without feeling any pain in your body. (this is for me when i was sixteen) i would really recommend this bike for anyone who is going to buy their first motorcycle. this motorcycle is loveable.

Cbr125r Peter Stevens Lemon

Hello, My name is Bruce Lynch, I brought a brand new 2012 cbr125r from peter stevens located in Australia, Melbourne, Victoria, 3000. The motorcycle was on the show room floor, the motorcycle was started up by the dealer and so on. I brought the show room floor motorcycle which was my first mistake!. Why well when i had it delivered to my home address, i went through the Owners manual first before taking it for a nice slow ride, and that is when i noticed that the motorcycle had no oil in it!. Now i thought to myself how many other people would have inquired about this motorcycle, and how many times had it been started up without oil in it!. So i forgot about the ride and went and got some motorcycle oil for it and topped it up. On its first service after doing 1,000 km the motorcycle was taken back to peter stevens in Australia, Melbourne, Victoria, 3000. And this one and only service by them could have caused me an accident or injury to someone else that was using the road. Now before the service that first 500 km were done riding slow, below speed limit,as it was a new motorcycle, and i treated the other 500km practically in the same way however riding at speed limits. Now before the service the bike ran OK not perfectly due to the low oil level before hand, once the first service was done, I noticed a white dry petroleum grease of some sort on the chain and also the gears felt somewhat hard to change. As I was riding home i heard a very long crunch or bang noise, it was so loud that it forced me to stop immediately. Luckily there was no one behind me, and luckily for me that the motorcycle did not go out of control. So after stopping and getting off in a hurry I walked around the motorcycle and could not see anything wrong, so what must have had occurred must have been internal. I got the motorcycle home riding ever so slowly,I removed the rubbish dry grease and replaced with Castrol high temperature petroleum and made an adjustment to the gear lever, I took it for a spin and bingo! it ran perfectly, I vowed never to let them peter stevens service my motor cycle again!. However after just 11,000 km the engine is broken, and this was caused by the low level or no oil in the engine, and this blame must be directed to peter stevens in Australia, Melbourne, Victoria, 3000. Peter stevens themselves said that the engine trouble was top end, in fact a proper motorcycle mechanic (Bikes Plus) have stated that the problem is lower end damage due to the cause being low level engine oil, last of all peter stevens located in Australia, Melbourne, Victoria, 3000, took every dirty step they could to stop the bike being fixed even though it was under warranty, to cover themselves of an fault.

If You feel that this review has giving a sense of someone standing up against a motorcycle dealer that has spoken out for others or Yourself, please pass this review on, or better post it on another site. It is people like myself making people aware that HEY! my ride was OK before Joe Blow touched it, and this awareness will stop companies risking peoples lives for a lousy paycheck. To the company the paycheck is good and a extra repair is a bonus for them.

Really bad deal from the dealer, and good to see you let everyone know.I tend to agree with the above comment about not being the bike's fault!

Honda are well known to be absoloutely bulletproof, and if you had ran any other engine with no oil in,I bet you wouldn't have an engine to complain about!

bamsemoms36

hey, you can't complain about the bike because you bought a bike without oil in, there's nothing wrong with the bike. you shall always completely check over the bike before using it. i understand that what happend really suck for you, but hey, don't blayme the bike and give it a rate 1/5 because YOU and that Australian guy didn't check the oil. it's a really bad job from the dealer but also a bad job by you. but it's also hi's responsibility to get the bike ready for you, i think you should really erase this and post it somewhere else. i really support you in what you are doing but don't take it out on Honda for the mistake you and you'r dealer made. it's not their fault. the bike is actually an amazing bike

Great Fun

Great bike i have owned it for a year now covered 3250 miles, 750 miles in the last week on 3 trips and not one problem with the bike, got it up to 88 miles per hour sits at 75mph compfortley.

MarkLysaght71

88mph...no chance...its 13 bhp standard.would only do the speed you state if you tampered with engine or exhaust.ive got a 2012 repsol fully maintained by honda and they even said it will only do the 70mph,as only 13bhp.but i agree with you its a great machine

Honda Cbr125r

Brought a brand new Honda 2012 cbr125r from peter stevens in Melbourne Victoria Australia, and what a lemon they sold me. On the first service they done, when i was riding it home i heard a loud crunching noise, which forced me to pull over and stop, also the gears were hard to change through, and the chain was catching the sprocket unevenly. Got it home corrected all the faults myself and it ran perfectly after that, and I vowed never to let them animals touch my bike again. 11,000 kilometers later, i started to hear a loud clonking noise, still under warranty they (peter stevens) said that they would not fix the bike. they made up some lame excuse, but i found out that they are no longer a certified Honda dealer, talk about low life's they would not tell me this. So now i have to fix the bike at my expense. Take some advice don't buy from them, as they are only out to make money from you, as they are a business, and what this business is out to do, is to make more money than what they normal should!. And that's by setting up your bike to fail in the very very near future. If i was to buy another bike it would be second hand, and i am sure that i would get it working for a lot longer than buying new from peter stevens LOL.

Great Little Bike For The City Or Backroads.

I owned a 2007 for a year, sold it, missed it, and then bought a new 2011 version of the same model. I would not have gone back to a CBR125R unless I was really happy with it.

Pros: Starts easy and is extremely reliable in all weather and temperatures. Very light and flickable through the corners, decent brakes, looks okay. Honda quality.

Cons: It's only a 125cc, so it's great up to about 90kph (55mph) and then pretty much runs out of steam. If you open the throttle up, it will eventually crawl from 90kph up to maybe 110-115, and that's about it.

Also, the stock IRC tires are not that great on wet pavement. You can get Bridgestones or other tires in stock sizes that stick much better.

Overall, this is a great bike for urban areas, or quiet country roads. If you need to ride a lot on high-speed freeways, you will want a larger engine.

Conclusion: I'm very happy with my CBR125, and if it were stolen, I would definitely consider buying another.

Cutting Out And Gear Problem?

Just recently purchased a cbr 125 in march 2013 brand new, when driving it home from the showroom it was smooth as silk and by far the best 125 i have ever ridden. However, after 2days of having it,i started it up one morning (sweet as a nut)and after travelling about 150yds came to a junction and it cut out on me. It took a few touches of the starter button to get it going again and took a while to get up to 3000 rpm? Even after this the bike seemed rather slugish and it seemed as if the clutch was dragging out, until after about 3 or 4 mile.I put it down to it being cold but it happend again that evening. I immediately contacted the dealer i bought it from and they collected the bike off me to keep overnight to see if the problem happened again the following morning from cold. I phoned the next day to see if the problem happened again and it hadnt. I asked were there any problems found and the reply i got was nothing was found except the clutch had been adjusted and it was on its limit?? Told them i hadnt adjusted anything and it was exactly the same as when i had it from the showroom. Anyway, i had the bike back and exactly the same thing

happened, started, then cut out on me, then took several attempts to start it again to the point where you think your gonna flood the engine. I eventually got it started(again struggling to get it to 3000rpm)when after about 2 or 3mile rideing it it would go from 2nd gear into neutral and this happened on several occassions.I dont know if ive been sold the runt of the litter or what but for a brand new machine somethings not quite right.Taking it back to dealer tmrw for a different machine and if thats the same then im switching to yamaha!!

LS650

Seems like the problem is more with the dealership than the bike! Take it back and tell them to fix it under warranty, and not to call you until they've test rode it some distance and know it to be fixed!
