Shines In A Honda Kind Of Way.
The 1980's seem to be when Honda began applying the technology and engineering they had been working on.
Although far from the perfect bike the VT500ft Ascot was the beneficiary of many great relatively new things.
A well balanced, 3 valved, water cooled electronically controlled V-twin coupled to a six speed o-d transmission ending up with a shaft drive to the tubeless rear wheel.
Gone are the 4 and 5 speed transmissions, air cooled engines, chain drives, points and condenser ignition and tire tubes just a few years ago.
The only thing that keeps this from being a change the oil and drive bike is the non-hydraulic lifters that need adjusting.
With them though you might not see the 50hp and a 9k rpm redline that bested the 900cc Harley's of the day.
The end result is an enjoyable fun to ride bike.
I can't stress how well rounded this bike is.
Suspension is better than norm in the day. Long 6" front shocks and better than 4" in the rear.
Light weight depending on the review averages between just under to just over 400 lbs.
Outstanding 65+ mpg can be achieved regularly. Which brings me to my only complaint. A 2.5 gallon gas tank.
