1989 Honda Cbr 1000 F (fk) - A Wolf In Sheeps Clothing
I ran this bike for a couple of years and at the same time owned a VMAX (see separate review on this bike), so a more different pair of bikes you could not get.
The CBR 1000 F is a do everything well kind of tool. It can tour, scratch and cruise. Mine was the red, blue and white one with 136 BHP. Despite being 20 years old when I acquired it, this bike was in a good standard condition except for the addition of a pair of aftermarket NEXUS end cans. It ran faultlessly and the gear box was as smooth as you like, I don't think that I have had better with the 20 plus bikes I have owned over the past 32 years.
I used this bike mainly for 2 up touring on the German autobahns (yep I live in speed friendly Germany)and even with GIVI panniers and topbox this baby was as steady and composed as a high speed train on rails. It will nudge 160 mph if thats your bag or it will sit at the ton in cruise mode returning a good 45 mpg and you and your pillion will be sat in comfort grinning from ear to ear. For an old girl this bike delivers by the bucket load. Just writing this review makes me want another!
The only problem it gave me in three years of ownership was a worn out alternator and this I replaced with a NOS item (rotor and stator)courtesy of David Silver Spares in the UK.
Rubberwise I ran Michelin Pilot Roads and upped the rear from the standard 160 to a 170 with no adverse affect to the handling. When I acquired mine she had 56000 miles on her. She had 63000 miles when I reluctantly let her go to fund a GSX 1400 K4.The CBR's engine ran like a peach and started first time every time. Quality, quality, quality.

Bullet Proof Reliabilty, Comfort, Long Term Ownership
I currently own a 1993 US Model with 74,000 miles. As a former MSF Rider Coach, I have the luxury of ride testing many types of bikes. My first experience was when I was in Spain. I purchased a pre-loved 1991 European model with 90,000 kms and enjoyed her very much. Runs exceptionally well, the only thing I did was oil and filter changes for three years and the usual wear and tear maintenance. I replaced the brake pads, tires and unfortunately, I had to let her go. I cannot take her back to US. I loved her so much that when I returned to US, I started to search one. Luckily, I found a 1993 with Linked Braking System in great condition. To this date, still never let me down. She is here with me in Japan now and will take her back when I return. I still have done no corrective maintenance. So far, just oil and filter/fluid changes, updated ceramic brake pads, new Bridgestone tires, tinted windshield and resurfaced the seat covering. I intend to keep her as long as I can still ride. One of the most comfortable ride positions, for my size, comfort, stability and Honda's legendary quality and reliability. I would strongly recommend it to anyone. Not a beginners bike, but once you are confident enough and ready to move up, I strongly suggest that if you are fortunate enough to find one in good condition..... Might be a serious consideration. I expect the owners to keep them and there's a few our there that keeps their value, if they are well kept. Keep riding safe and dress to crash.

It's Just So Easy
I have owned my 94 CBR 1000F for 10 years now and through that time it has shared garage space with various sports bikes of all common makes due to it being the best all rounder i have ever ridden, it's fast, handles well for what it is, reasonable fuel consumption,is superb two up with luggage and other than general service items which you expect to replace as the mileage increases (40,000) it has never let me down and as the title says "it's just so easy" to open up the garage and get on it and go, no fuss, no hassle she just goes.
She no shares space with an Aprilia rsv 1000 which although a lot more temperamental give a similar good feeling, i have decided both these bikes will always be owned by myself as especially the CBR would be missed so much.
If you can still get a tidy one i would advise anybody to purchase this bike.

1990 Cbr1000f
bought a 90 cbr1000f in 2010 on consignment with 25k on the odometer, it now has almost 51k, no issues to speak of this is a excellent reliable sportstouring bike i drive it year around in temps from 20%f to 100%f, it has not failed me except once, i was stuck in traffic on a 99%f summer day and it over heated and blew out the three way cooling system union, $30 part. considering it lasted 21 years and was made from hard molded plastic it did good and well past its service life. i would recommend this bike to a more experienced rider, maybe someone with previous experience just getting back into riding, it is a heavy bike the power band is very linear, and there are aftermarket hardluggage options still available for it, go get you one there a excellent bike and can be had at a resonable cost.

My Dad Had Two Of These - A "j" Or "hurricane" And
My Dad had two of these - a "J" or "hurricane" and then later on a mid-1990's model. I've always loved them, and have waited 20 years to get one of my own.
I've had mine for just over a year now, and I love it. I work from home, so I only get to ride it occasionally, but it's awesome. I spent a year looking for the perfect one, because I wanted the last model before it was discontinued. I got the best paint scheme (IMHO) and a low-mileage 1998 model.
It's heavy, sure, but you don't really notice when you're on it unless you're moving at walking-pace. It has linked brakes (Honda's CBS) and while some people dislike them, I've not had any problems. I could understand not wanting front brake applied when I've deliberately chosen to use the rear brake at slow speeds or in bad conditions, but it's not really noticable at legal speeds.
It carves up countryside very well. In really narrow, single-lane-with-passing-places type roads it can be a bit hard work, but it's not made for those kind of roads. It's made for long, wide sweeping roads and eats them for breakfast.
I'm 6' and ~18st and I find it very comfortable (not as long and stretched-out as a Blackbird) and you feel very much "in" the bike rather than perched "on" it like a supersports machine. The wind protection is fantastic and it's easy to go much faster than you think you're going. The acceleration is awe-inspiring once the motor gets going (motorway sliproads are a lot of fun) but the engine has so much torque that is's quite happy to be driven like a car and burble around at 2k rpm when it's not appropriate to open it up.
Overall I love it. I'd have another, and it has to be said that until the new VFR1200 came out recently, there's been a CBR1000F-shaped in the sports-tourer market. The Blackbird is a totally different bike, and while I'm sure it's great, there can be no argument that it was built to be a long, narrow ZZR1100-beater, and not a replacement for the 1000F. Honda recently brought back the CBR600F, so here's hoping for a new age of "F" models from Honda that offer big value and grins without the balls-out 12k rpm screaming missile tendencies of the Fireblade and 600RR.

I am a recent owner of a supersport of 1990 in perfect condition for its age.

I passed of a GS 500 straightly for this model and simply love it.
It's a smooth ride, super confortable.
Plenty of power, (must be always awake), very easy to ride (mutch more easy than riding the GS500).
I am 1.85 mts tall. so I don't have any problems moving it around. (It weighs 230 Kg, is clear what is weighed)
I use it every day, I live 20 km from work.
I am very pleased with it.

Hi I Passed My Direct Access In January 2010
Hi
I passed my direct access in January 2010 and new I wanted a CBR 1000f. I'm 33 and when I was around 16 my Dad owned one of these beasts. It was a K Reg in Red and black and I remember wishing I could taker her out. Well a number of years later I now own a K reg 1000fm. She is beautiful and I can't go out without someone commenting on how nice she is. I've not done any really long distance and although I love the acceleration this bike offers I'm a relatively low speed rider. I just enjoy the confidence this bike inspires. Some people have said I was crazy for buying a 1000 as a first bike and such a heavy bike but I've taken it easy and enjoyed every minute of getting to know her. As people have said starts within a second of the ignition button being pushed and engine is so smooth.
Can anyone help? I intend to take the swingarm out this winter as there is slight surface rusting. Can anyone reccommendwhat is best. Do I send it away to be powder coated or do a simple DIY hammerite type job. Also you will know that the the top triple yoke has a metal CRB badge. Does anyone have any idea how to get hold of another one. My local dealerhip can't get them anymore and I would love to replace the existing as its looking tatty. Replies to [email protected] Thanks

Ive Owned My Cbr1000fr For Just Over A Year Now An
ive owned my cbr1000fr for just over a year now and have enjoyed riding it, the power is great for a bike which weighs 518 pounds , i do have a micron 4-2-1 manifold and a carbon end can on it so it only has 1 end can instead of the two , the colour scheme is great in my opinion i have the red white and blue colour scheme with the graphite grey wheels. ive replaced the stupidly large indicators on the rear to mini arrow style ones and removed the number plate holder and replaced it with a tail tidy. i would like to add a rear hugger as it would add to the sports bike look ive gone for with it. i highly reccomend bridgestone battlax bt020 tyres for this bike there excellent for this bike in my opionion. you do get a slight cam chain rattle ive noticed it on start up untill you turn the choke off and in 6th gear at low revs but on mine it disapears when the engines red hot ive been advised that this is normal for this bike and is not a cause for concern as they rattled from new with no nown reasons why. the bike handles well at speed it just flows through the corners , low speed balancing was an issue at first due to it feeling a little top heavy but now i dont notice the extra weight and can balance it almost at stand still. the seat is very comfortable and the riding position it excellent (im 6ft 2 inch tall) ive also been told that its very comfortable as a pillion as the seat is comfortable and the foot pegs aint that high.
over all engines are bullet proof ,runs as sweet as a nut all the time ,never had any starting or running problems , starts first time all the time , i would highly recommend this motorcycle to any one i no they are gettin on a little now but keep on top of its maintenance and itll go 4 ever.

I Have Owned This Bike A Cbr1000ft For 10 Years An
I have owned this bike a CBR1000FT for 10 years and covered nearly 100,000 miles on her she has been 100% reliable with no problems at all.
She get a service every 4000 miles and is superbly comfortable.
Fuel comsumption is fairly good for a heavy bike i get about 45-50 mpg.
You can ride alday in fact i have done 750 miles in one day once with no problems.
You really cant go wrong with one of these so much so i have just purchsed one of the last bikes produced 2000 registered on W plate with only 1250 miles on the clock.
Roll on the next 100,000 miles.
