I Currently Have A Gilera Smt Nd Have Owned It Sin

i currently have a gilera smt nd have owned it since june 2009 there are some mods on it including polini 80cc big bore and mk full exhaust system and an air filter. the problem i have with the bike is that the power band only really kicks in at around about 8000 revs so i found myself constantly thrashing it to get it to go anywhere i give it credit it is realiable but i still have this iritating problem and have no clue what to do about it

you should be able to tweak with the power band and make it kick in alot eariler aswell as going all the way up to the revlimiter. it helps alot coz i have done it and i dnt really need to thrash it really as much... but the main thing is i can crusie coz ur nearly in the powerband all the time.. and have constant power.

I Thought This Bike Was Fantastic When I Got It. I

i thought this bike was fantastic when i got it. i put a 72cc kit on it and its amazing. the front wheel comes up in gear 1 and 2. i rabuilt the engine because it started making a noisy rattle but i have done 35000km on it now and thats good for a 50cc bottom end rebuid. but if this was one of the bikes out of other 50cc geared bikes i would defenatly get a gilera smt. plans: i have just ordered a doppler racing clutch and racing compund rear pads as they have worn down where i drive it so much but everyone friend i no has got a gilera because they are so good. thanks

The Gilera Smt 50 Is Really Great, Well-build Bike

The Gilera SMT 50 is really great, well-build bike that starts up every morning. I have never had such a reliable 2-stroker in my life.

I Had A Gilera Smt 50 For A Year And It Was Defini

I had a Gilera SMT 50 for a year and it was definitely a decent bike, especially for learners. It's upright, it's comfortable and it's not so fast that you'll end up killing yourself, in fact there's not even enough power in it to high side it.

If you have it unrestricted this thing will do 50mph roughly, and is pretty fun on the corners, you can have it full throttle around and corner and not have to worry about the back end slipping out.

On a 2 stroke 50cc engine problems are going to be plenty.

If you 'thrashing it day in day out then of course your going to yourself replacing spark plugs a hell of a lot.

When I first got it, problems were plenty. Rubbish gearbox, dodgy back brake, front headlight decided to switch itself on and off whenever it felt like and even the back wheel barring collapsed and nearly threw me off. Ended up having to fork out £170 for repairs.

At the end of the day, this is a good bike for learners however you'll have to expect a few problems, but like I said, it's a 2 stroke 50cc engine so you can't expect perfection from this.

Great 1st bike. The Gilera SMT50 is very fast. I get about 70mph on a flat, beats any other 50cc out there if you ride it properly. If you have never had a geared bike before it takes sometime to get used to it but once you get the hang of it you will have a a good ride.

Yes ...would definitely recommend to people, but if you want to take it off-road I would get the RCR, not the Gilera SMT, or if you got money get some nice crosser tyres either way same bike but I would put a sports exhaust on ... am hoping to put one on mine soon.....

My Gilera SMT 50 (same as the Gilera RCR 50 but with road wheels and tyres) is fantastic! I have derestricted it and have added a Leovinci v6 exhaust. The pull is good and the powerband on each gear is great! The handling is second to none and the bike is at it's best on small, windy backroads. I have been clocked at 67 mph but that was with the wind behind me, it cruises well at 55-60 mph. The best 50cc on the market!
