Best Built Bike

This was my first ever bike and ill tell you the truth my favourite, a few years back I was coming him from work on mine when a car pulled out on me and I crashed into the back of the brand new skoda 2012 model I didn't have Time to brake and I was going 40mph I landed on the roof of the car and my gilera 50 was still running with a broken mudguard and mirror that's all while the Skoda had the bumper hanging off and axel bent. After the police arrived and done an assment I drove off with a sore head and leg while the skoda got recovered by the RAC :)

Difficult To Sell!

Now just because I've given this bike a 1 STAR rating don't go getting upset - actually it deserves a 5 STAR rating because it's possibly the finest 'ped we've ever seen. It looks superb, starts first time - even after standing for 6 months, sips fuel, is clean to ride, looks great and is very comfortable to ride.

The 1 star rating is just if you want to sell it on...

Our story...

My son has got one of these - a 2010 (60 plate) Gilera Runner SP50. It's brand new and is a great looking bike. His has a white and black fairing with black sports wheels (red rim pin-striping) and looks absolutely fantastic - it should do, it's barely 2 years old and he's basically never used it. It's been garage kept since new and has a grand total of 212 miles on the clock - less than a week's use!

This year, he's off to uni so has decided to sell it to help towards his living and accommodation costs. We paid £2,200 for it and if you check the web, they go for at least that now.

But we have advertised it locally in the newspaper, nationally on the MCN website and in eBay classifieds.

Have we had ANY responses? Nope! Not one!

We started advertising at £1700 - £500 cheaper than new for what is basically still a brand new bike. Nothing!

We dropped the price to £1500 - that's a £700 discount. Nothing!

We have just re-advertised it for £1300 - nearly £1000 off the new price and still nothing.

We are now thinking we'll just keep hold of it, keep it in our garage and not use it. Then, in another 20 years, HIS kids can sell it - it'll prolly be worth £20,000 by then!

Runner Sp50

Fast, solid brakes with double calipers on front disc brake(which scooter 50ccm has that?)Good strong water cooled engine, bike looks good and aerodynamic, large wheels for a 50ccm scooter, reliable and one of the biggest and heaviest(if not the heaviest-109 kg)50ccm scooter around.Has 4.5 HP (3.3 KW)when sold in fex Italy but sold in Norway has about 2.5 HP;anyway 4.5 HP for a mass produced bike is not bad at all.Strong frame with double welded tubes with steel sheeting between for extra strength. The down sides are:Not much room for the feet when driving. Its also a bit special to drive but you"ll get used to it but sometimes you might get the feeling of "floating"on top of the the road;not dangerous but a bit unpleasant.Screws with those "clips" to secure parts that are"nt essential for safe drving(front cape, plastic covers, airfilter cover etc are"nt very good. That "clip system to secure certain screws is fragile plus the screws that go into them.I broke a screw head when putting the airfilter cover back on even though it was plastic that it was screwed into! But in my opinion its the smartest and stylish looking 50ccm scooter of them all,and a good buy compared to most others.

I Have Had Many Problames With This Bike But I Wou

I have had many problames with this bike but I wouldn't exchange it for anything. Its the fastest moped you will find as standard and will blow away all of those chavvy little speedfight 2's (that top out at 45mph.) Ive had almost 60mph out of it and im pretty sure its standard(can't be sure, the last owner was a complete tool, they normally are.) It needed a new voltage regulator, ignition switch and some carb maintinence because of the last owner. Be careful buying one second hand because there so highly tuneable all the pikeys and retards try to make it a rocket ship and end up brakeing somthing. so if the previous owner only has 4 teeth in his entire family tree and takes 2 hours to cound your money, run away, fast. As I said I have had problems with it but I have grown to love it, and I promise if you buy one you will too. p.s f**k me is it good on fuel, I get about 70mpg and I think its got a 2 gallon tank on it, could go to the end of the world and back on a tenner.

My Gilera 50cc Has Been Really Reliable Throughout

My gilera 50cc has been really reliable throughout the year never let me down. My bike is de-restricted and does 70 with ease, i have a chrome laser x-pro exhaust. Bike has always worked from button so no need for kick start, nothings every broke, fuel is efficient and i hardly ever need 2 stroke oil, overall this bike is superb and well prices, i would recommend this bike to anyone who is looking for a reliable, fast and good looking bike, in my opinion this bike is amazing.

I Bought My Runner 3rd Hand, I New The Person Who

i bought my runner 3rd hand, i new the person who had it from new, his dad fitted a malossi 70 kit and it ruined the head gasket causing it to leak. i paid 350 for it and its cost me £6 to fix, ive upgraded the rollers to 6.6g polini rollers. other than that its standard, i have 125 clocks in it and a smallers grab rail on the back.

the first review says take the thermostat out, you mean take it out the engine completly so its just a hole? and its liquid cooled so wont the liquid come out?

I Have A Gilera Runner Sp 55plate (2005).

I have a Gilera Runner SP 55Plate (2005).

I have had a few problems since i bought it, but nothing major...

My runner is completely standard (de restricted) and it hits 50mph easilly with a standard pipe, so it is definately a fast bike for a 50cc and the hi per 2 pro liquid cooled engine is highly tunable compared to some other mopeds which are hard to find parts for!

The good things of the bike are:

.Big Petrol Tank (i can put around £12 in)

.All Gilera Runners Are Liquid Cooled As Standard

.Very Very Easy To Find Spare Parts

.Handles Well

.The bike has a bit on the right hand side where you can screw off the panel to access the engine easilly without removing complete panels + under seat storage also has a removable part to access engine

The bad things of the bike are:

.EVERYONE and i mean EVERYONE wants to steal it (mine has been stolen before but i took it back)

.Its 2 stroke so it drinks oil

.The petrol cap cover is always annoying to open

One thing i would advise to any gilera runner owner is to go to the gilera specialists and ask them to take out your thermostat (had it done to mine), as it allows the engine to run cool so it never overheats which helps the bore head to last longer!

Should I get this or Speedfight 2 for my first bike? Speedfight looks better but I heard this bike is faster and has better acceleration.
