Heavy Clutch
The only time I have ever fitted clutches to my own cars there was never an occasion when the clutch pedal did not come up 'light' or 'lightish. A recent LUK dual-mass clutch kit fitted to a Volvo S40 in my family by a lpocal garage, yielded a 'not too easy' clutch to push down. Whilst the clutch is in itself working, I would have thought with the costs of having a dual-mass clutch fitted, then a light)ish) pedal would have been a minimum to expect. With today's increasing traffic there is nothing more miserable than a heavy clutch.
I am under the impression via a mechanic at a large garage, that there are differing clutch qualities within LUK. when this is definable when ordering or just a case of a lot variation in the manufacturing process, I do not know.

No Warranty
I have fitted many clutches over the last 30 years but I have only ever had a problem with a couple of them. I have used Luk products before and have been reasonably impressed with their products but have never had to send a product back. That was until I fitted a clutch to a Peugeot dispatch van which lasted approx 250 miles. It happens so you shrug your shoulders apologise to the customer and get a replacement. Not that simple with Luk I’m afraid. The clutch went back to them and after a couple of days Luk replied with I had pushed the release bearing onto far which caused the retaining clip to fly off. I said if that was the case it would have exploded straight away not 250 miles down the road and it wasn’t possible to push the release bearing on too far. Not only would they not replace the clutch the also would not warranty the time gone into fitting their rubbish. I managed to get a refund from my suppliers under statutory rights but I have never had my labour paid which on previous occasion with other manufactures has never been a problem. I have been in the trade for over 30 years and have never come up against this problem before. I thought I would go and see other garage owners to see if the problem was isolated or if they had any problems. The first garage I came to have a very similar tale about one fingerprint he had left on the driven plate which had also voided his warranty. How the finger print would have led to the clutch collapsing after a couple of hundred miles is beyond me or the other garage owner. On I went to the next garage and after only a few short hrs I found the problem was not the way in which any of us had fitted the clutch the problem was LUK. Be warned I won’t fit these clutches and neither will many of the garages in my area. Go with any of the other clutch suppliers and the warranty is very good but not with LUK.
