Just Wanted To Start Of By Saying That Form One Re

Just wanted to start of by saying that form one review, if you have bought this system withing the last 5yrs, & by it from a shop take the warrenty.

As these are now dis-continued.

Mind you, Iv have mine for over 5yrs & i cannot fault it.

Before blu-ray this was & still is the bomb.

Spend a fiver & get the 5.1 demo disks...they will upset the neighbours.

Pitty its not a passive system, but who cares.

Only reason for my move was to upgrade to blu-ray.

I remember seeing this in France when i 1st saw this system (£800).."Wow" i said..."Gotta get one of these."

& i never looked back...even now i sold the DVD,but kept the speakers.

Look you get what you pay for, iv had no complaints but this system is a few yrs old now, but was ahead of its time, try a 5.1 system & bring the cinema to your home.

I want to upgrade to Blue Ray and have had my system since 2001.

Can I do this if not can I reuse the speakers. I have been told that the speakers need to be 4-6 ohm resistance whereas these are 3. (I'm not technical). Also that it is not a passive system. Does that refer to the unit itself or the speakers as well (particularly the sub woofer)?

I bought the S880 at the end of 2002 from comet and it's worked a treat for me with none of the problems that have been described. The only problem with it now is the power button which turns off from time to time. But that's not bad after just over 7 years of use.

The sound quality is superb, especially when used to listen to super audio cds. The reason i've given the image quality a 3 is only because I never had a great TV to test it on.

Overall i'd say this was one of the best buys i've ever made.

I Have A Sony Dav-s880. I Had The Dvd Playback Iss

I have a Sony DAV-S880. I had the DVD playback issues a while back, and had it fixed at 100 pounds. Recently, the same problem has surfaced again - the disc would cycle between reading and a blank screen, eventually giving up with a 'Can't Play' message. I'm quite disappointed, as I was under the impression that Sony would have made a better player than this. Now I use it as a speaker set only.

I Love It And Question Those Who Have Had Problems

I love it and question those who have had problems. They most likely stacked it on top of other units and wonder why it over heats, (As did I to start). They also comment on dust, which suggests to me they need to keep their homes cleaner. Mine is great!

We Spent A Lot Of Time Researching Which Model To

We spent a lot of time researching which model to buy, after owning for 6 months the machine burnt out, was fixed under warranty, after another 12 months the DVD's started skipping so we took it back for repair to be told there was an upgrade to be done the parts were free and we had to pay labour, also the laser needed replacing, after another 18 months the same problem is occurring, this machine would be used about 3 hours per month, an absolute piece of rubbish the sony never stood behind, will never purchase a Sony item and will tell everyone I can to do the same.

Bought The Sony Dav-s880 Kit To Go With My Sony Tv

Bought the Sony DAV-S880 kit to go with my Sony tv, and wish I hadn't.

It overheats badly and stops mid film as a consequence.

In addition it broke down completely after 3 years, and having had the laser assembly replace it has broken again. Not worth fixing as I can get a decent receiver for the cost of a sony repair.

Sensitive To Dust, Scratches And Sometimes It Just

Sensitive to dust, scratches and sometimes it just don't like the disk even out the wrapper new. Overheats easily @ 2.5 hours and needs turning off to work again. This old player better finish and picture/sound than latest sony's cheap plastic rubbish.
